@@hozefish666 It's really Ryoji. It's his form as a Shadow itselt, But it is common to call him thanatos, knowing that technically by having Pharos' social Link at the maximum at a certain moment, we can use it since it is the same person
Gotta say, I like this version of the scene more than the one from the movie. Way more eerie and atmospheric, and I found the voices and sound effects in the movie version a bit lacking.
Agreed. P3R's awakening cutscene has the P3P problem and I think they should have gotten Wit Studio to just animate that cutscene. The Movie version was the inspiration but at the same time it failed at nailing the visceral violence of the entire scene from that movie as well.
What the fuck was Yukari going to do against that Shadow? Her persona doesn't even have Garu yet. What the hell was she expecting? 'Let me just use Dia on that big mean shadow, that'll fix everything.'
Game version: Orpheus is brutally ripped to shreds with lots of crunching and now here's a rabid hellbeast ready to murder your shit Movie version: Oops Orpheus' head fell off or something and now here's a squawking parrot-man with laryngitis
This is a modified version of the game, you can't buy it (basically a mash up of the original Japanese DVD for all the content aside from text, which is then taken from the US release). So you have to google a place to download the disk image, and then play it either on a modded PS2, or emulate it on the PC.
thanatos is death, yes.... but Minato has death inside him since the accident and his parent's death. he has the fool arcana and has the wild card ability.... so he's not mainly death, death resides in him metaphorically... and he dies. so his persona is mainly Orpheus of the fool arcana.
@Xaoxdive Allow me to interate on how subtitles don't count, as someone will no doubt dispute it sometime next year. . . The spoken word in a Japanese language video with subtitles does not usually correspond to the written one, because the Japanese structure their sentences differently. The first spoken word could be the third subtitled word. Or maybe there is no English equivlilant, so the translator (who may or may not be a professional) will rewrite the entire phrase to compensate.
@Xaoxdive Therefore you don't know what words are being emphasized or emoted. You don't know which word caused them to become enraged, or start sobbing. You can only guess by what the subtitle says and make the connection using your understanding of the English language and American/British/'wherever you hail from' cultural norms for speech and emotion. It might as well be gibberish, non-existent language with subtitles. What you read may have been completely different then what the actor said.
Well i personally like the dubbing of this game. At most of the animes and games the original voices are far superior, but for some reason i did not feel that in this case. Of course there are some parts where the dubbin isn't that good, but actually it is a very professional job for this game and the voice actors really made me feel that they are the voices of the characters because the dubbing did gave back the feeling when they was sad or happy. Especially Yukari and Jumpei and Akihiko
@ipekatomang Let me "sum" one as well. . .America has voice and speech programs and degrees as well, as well as any other country with decent arts culture. In fact, voice and speech is an integral part of any repectable acting training program. Japan isn't the 'end all be all' country for acting. It's just one of the more fan supported ones.
@zeldas1 Greece is also not traditionally centered in mesopotamia. maybe it was part of it momentarily when you guys invaded them throughout the past. one example: The mesopotamia region was part of greece/macedonia when alexander the great went on a rampage. I might as well point out a stupid example. Think of 300, the mesopotamia region was part of persia at that time. For the majority of history, this was the case. Its like saying germans are italians case rome ruled most of europe.
yeah ashton is right, hindu slavic greek celtic japanese norse and chinese are about all the ones I can think of atm. Chinese I'm not particularly sure though. Don't quote me on that.
actually that WAS thanatos because later on ryoji says he came out as his "ultimate persona" and death isn't a persona meaning that what we saw wasnt death but WAS thanatos. also you say he looks very similar to thanatos but they'd have to be twins for them not to be the same one and you must recreate thanatos because he leaves your body so you must recreate him. i just kicked your ass making your satement ull and void
@ashtonx seriously starting telling me that i insult myself etc make u feel better? mythology is greek word couz they create it first if some1 else create it first doesn't that mean that it gonna had another name and not Greek? ''The most widely used alphabet is the Latin alphabet. It derives from the Greek, the first script to consistently assign letters to both consonants and vowels'' wikipedia ... even the wiki-pedia the pedia is greek word and yes i m very proud to b Greek
This scene is so much better in japanese. The english version sucks compared to this. I like the way the focus the personas in this series. P3 has more focus on the greek gods, all the important persona are from greek mythology. P4 has more focus on Japanese mythology, where all the important personas were japanese deities. I wonder what they're gonna focus on in P5. (and yes, it is confirmed to be under production for the PS3. Shoji Meguro is the producer and sound director.)
+Luccas Magalhaes That thing is still a gun. In persona 3 it is technically possible to summon your persona without the use of the evoker gun because what actually causes their persona to come out is intense mental stress. The gun simulates that intense stress. Yukari has probably only summoned her persona once at this point and does not know a lot about the evoker. She is scared that the gun may kill her.
Evokers prove to be traumatizing and tiring, as the Evoker still retains the shape of a gun, and using an Evoker resembles the act of committing suicide. The Evoker is a symbol of death, accepting death and knowledge of mortality, which often arise during the teenage years. It also acts as a reminder of how the members of SEES are aware that they can die while fighting Shadows. This is why Yukari Takeba has difficulty using her Evoker: she is afraid of death, and comments that the predicament is like "losing innocence." This is also why the protagonist has no difficulties using it: he does not view death as scary.
@ashtonx dude seriously u know where Mesopotamia was????? Greece was in the middle of it so that mean before they name it Greece it was Mesopotamia Greek ppl live there too i don't know about japan but i know china is older that japan i don't really know about the history they have except the Edo period in japan i also know that 90% of the word use mythology to name it wich come from the mythologia from greece so i answer about Mesopotamia and the connection they have with Greece
@zeldas1 wow your argument is like, if greeks were the first people to identify the action eating, the action of eating was never done before. Also, how is an phonetic alphabet system more legitimate than a character system as a system of writing. If anything characters are harder to master, ask someone japanese, cause we have both. China also had its first unified dynasty about 3000 years ago, at least as old as any organized greek state.
@ashtonx look u can believe whatever u want u can Dennie the teaching of so many country's about the history every1 make their own mythology's but the first to give it a name was Greece and every1 except japan and china call it with that name
not trying to be rude or anything, but thats not Thanatos, that is death as it says on the Megami Tensei wiki, Death just looks very similar to Thanatos
@ashtonx ancient greek alphabet was the first ever alphabet created second is latin(italy) 1 mythology is from the greek word mythologia greek was the first to create it look at wikkipedia to learn 2 babylona-mesopotamia greek words enough said 3 greece teach civilization to every1 else 4 in bible say that when Jesus saw2 greek philosophers he said ''Now God going to b know to whole world thx to their culture and teaching'' even in bible u can see greek teaching
@Tonku12 All of them sound horrible. While I'm not for killing them, I'm definitely for a so-called "Undub" version which replaces the horrible dub with the original audio.
No, it's Thanatos. Thanatos and Death are two separate beings, but Thanatos and Death look identical, probably due to the fact that Death was sealed in the protagonist, although one could also argue that since Death is Ryouji Mochizuki, who is in turn Pharos is the Protagonist's friend that Thanatos resembling Death could be the manifestation of their friendship. Either way, Thanatos is a persona, whereas Death is a shadow and a separate being.
@ashtonx and sumerian civilization ? lol ??? they dont even know how to talk u even know what kind of alphabet they had? circle for sun... 5 lines that mean hand .... zik zak lines that mean water lol
@Xaoxdive People are still commenting on this? Geez. I'm not "Japanese intolerant. I love Japan. One of my favorite cultures. But it's baffling how people claim that voice acting in a language they cannot even understand is mostly or always superior to voice acting in their native language? And subtitles don't count as "understanding Japanese". Most of the English dub haters hate the dub simply because it's not Japanese, a culture they have become obsessed with.
its thanatos since makoto/minato is a wild card (can have multiple personas and has about 170 that he can unlock) when he summoned orpheus for the first time one of them came out for a short while due to a surge of energy that came from using persona for the first time
@Eruphas I'm not hating on Japanese voice actors or Japan itself. I love Japan and it's one of my favorite cultures. But when people ignorantly form opinions on something that they have not a single clue on how it's created, THEN I get irritated. If people truely understood the English voice dubbing process, they wouldn't be so quick to insult it. Do some OBJECTIVE research on both voice acting and acting theory, then people will have some grounds to voice their opinion.
@Tonku12 Whoever said that (2 years ago, I don't care to look) is stupid. American VA's aren't bad lol. I can't watch Yu Yu Hakusho or Dragon Ball (any of it) in Japanese, I don't like those voices. While I prefer to watch Death Note in Japanese, i have no issues with the English cast either. It is simply put as you say, Japanese Elitist, I love Japan and everything it have given me, but I also love everything I have been offered in the way of translations here in the USA.
While time is supernaturally altered, P3 events still happen in the real world, thus the gun which is used as a summon aid. In Persona 4 they do all the fighting within the TV World, which is part of the Collective Uncoscious, where Shadows and Persona can manifest naturally. In P4 they never summon in the real world, and when P3 characters enter the TV in the Arena games, they can summon their Persona as easily as the P4 characters. Conversely it's possible to learn real world summoning, but it takes far more concentration and practice to reliably get the Persona to manifest. TL;DR The guns aid summoning in the real world. P4 characters fight within the TV, where Persona can manifest naturally.
i think the dubbed version is better, in my opinion. i mean look, at 1:47. it sound's "pe-du-so". but still IT JUST MY OPINION! I have NO complaints about the original one. great vid, good job! ^_^
