Based on dialogue from Takaya, it’s implied that this is a Persona that went berserk and killed its wielder. It also drops an evoker when killed on the bridge.
I find it odd on why Abaddon appears as a Shadow enemy in this game (appearing two times) compared to the rest of the Personas/demons. Do the developers liked that creature very much? Does Abaddon or the Shadow it is based on have a special role in the "possible" The Answer DLC (since there's the Abyss of Time and Abaddon personifies the abyss in real life lore). Or does Abaddon's "new" design is being used as a testing ground for other Personas/demons to have "modified appearances" for future games? (Could the modified designs appear in The Answer DLC?)
I find it interesting that the first time you fight not-Abaddon-trust-me with Takaya has it drop an Evoker. It’s possible it was another test-subject like Strega that lost control of their Persona and was consumed by it.
Given all the Persona experimentation going on in 3, it's possible this thing is just here to show that this could be Persona users' potential fate if the power is handled improperly
Also Persona 1 & 2 mog the latter Persona games, with the ability to change the personas of each character instead of being locked with the same boring ass personas
