Persona 3 Reload's DLC Price Controversy

While I don’t care about the costumes, the background tracks was something I was interested in; due to just have anything other than the Tartarus theme playing throughout. But yeah, I do agree that not being able to buy the waves separately is not great; especially if you bought the digital deluxe or collector's edition

Double dipping is nothing new but yeah its a dick move especially when they do a poor job communicating that deluxe edition doesn't include the expansion pass. Wanting more money is one thing but being deceptive about it yeah I can agree it's a dick move and they deserve the backlash for it.

I’ve recently tried to make more of an effort to be more confident about the criticism of media I like. I fucking LOVE Persona, but this shit is just wild. It’s not only the inflation of the price because of the rest of the content, and it’s not only the fact that this should’ve been in the base game, but also how it’s not included with the Deluxe, Premium, and even Aigis edition of the game. Here’s my thought. Unless ATLUS decides to give the Expansion to the people who paid extra, I’m gonna wait for a sale on it, buy it, and then drop a negative review for it. As much as I love Persona, I can’t turn a blind eye to this shit. These unethical business practices need to be stopped.

I’ll be honest, from what I’ve heard this is a sega move. Keep in mind they are the people that locked yakuza 8s NG+ behind a 30 dollar upgrade. I wouldn’t be surprised if they were behind not being able to upgrade P5R ps4 copies. Which is upsetting because the dlc is really promising but the fact that it costed me 50 dollars is stupid

I’m not convinced that Episode Aigis won’t be available on its own later on. It makes perfect sense for Sega/Atlus to initially push it in the expansion pass to try to make as much money as possible from the hype. I’m not saying that it definitely will be available by itself later. However, I’m gonna wait until release to get it unless it goes on sale on the PlayStation store, as I see no reason to commit to it this early.

That is why I rather wait for the completed edition of the remake in 2026

The fact that persona 5 royal upgrade to ps5 is a full price instead of free doesn't surprise me that answer epsode got stuck in expansion pass only.

In all honesty… I think that this is a good opportunity to pull out my ps3 and just play The Answer again on Persona 3 FES. 😂

To be honest as far as price goes it’ll depend on if it’s just The Answer with a graphics update or if anything was also added plus that. But I do think the dlc pack should have been included with the ultimate edition.

The new DLCs and songs from older songs would of been nove to have when the base game was released. The only new content is The Answer, but i dont know if they will fox the issues it has from FES.

Sega also wasn't planning on adding the answer. I'm guessing the only way Sega allowed for this was with the price tag.

Honestly I feel like value propositions are a big key factor in most of this discussion. No doubt in my mind that I know reload is very much so expensive or the fact that most of the problems that come with the pricing is that it’s inflated with DLC that’s purely cosmetic. It really does put a weird sort of discussion down on the value of reload when looking at its development vs expectation and pricing. This project had a set deadline and budget with accounting for localization and marking. No matter which way you put it with other projects that were also cooking this wasn’t going to be the all encompassing definitive version of the game most people were hoping for. Because of development they had to scrap the answer on release and now here it is as DLC. At least value wise it’s a game most are going to be very mixed on. To give my own personal takes and perspective: for what you pay for its a solid full experience. It’s a bit pricey and is definitely better to pick up on discount but other then that as far as the base game: yeah the $70 checks out. Not to go off on a tirade but I just don’t see any more reason to complain at least as to why it isn’t definitive based on how reload was developed and why we couldn’t have our cake and eat it too. For the most part a “definitive experience” isn’t required to enjoy the third entry and it becomes even more true with the announcement of the answer as is to say portable is very much so optional. Overall I’d say with what we got the value is quite reflected. As far as the $35 dollar expansion pass is concerned I break it down like this: I don’t think it’s remotely worth buying as it stands now until the release of the answer. In the end I would say untimely vote with your wallet. If the product is of low quality and your being up charged a fuck ton for it then yeah it’s a bit of a problem. I can also understand the price being inflated as there’s a bunch of stuff being tacked on which masks the actual value of what’s being paid for. It’s better to gage what you personally find fits the price for you

'The Answer' was about 40 hours. Some full priced games don't even give you that much content. Additionally, if you're on Xbox & GP Ultimate, the DLC is free & yours to keep, even if you don't renew GPU. I'm on PS, but I don't mind the pricing for what amounts to a full game.

I don’t mind the amount of money for the DLC, ima wait for it to come out first.

New costumes and Music.. that modders have already put up for download before they even announced DLC *sips tea* As for Gamepass Ultimate.. you generally do not get expansions added, you have to buy them. So unless this has specifically being said that its free to gamepass users it will be something to buy. Something I absolutely refuse to do on Gamepass, I did this with Kingdom Come Deliverence only for them to pull KDC off gamepass a few weeks later. I ended up buying on Steam when 75% off a couple of years later. I did think this was going to be for P3 as what Royal was for P5.

the scrummy part I fell is this is a 70 dolor game as it is then to scrummy charge for a dlc that should be part of the base game as many other remasters or remakes just include it into the base game even worse to vastly overprice this dlc

I’m still 99% sure that they are going to do a FES/golden/royal release for reload. Re-reload? Reloaded? No, Game pass never include DLC (or I never saw that, at least), you have to buy them. the issue there is that you have to buy the DLC on the WINDOWS STORE. which means when the game is gone from game pass, well you only have the dlc... But maybe they have a deal for that specific expansion pass to come on game pass, idk. I have game pass, and played FES in 2020, so I was waiting to see if there was really a p3 remake coming, and if it'd have anything new, or FeMC to know if I'd play it. welp, that'll probably be a pass for me, then. But I feel like the day I'll finally do Reload, They'll announce a complete version including The Answer and FeMC or something like that. BUt yeah, if I had to replay 3 once rn I'd choose Portable, because I'd get an actual new experience. ... EXCEPT Portable left game pass, now.

I rlly don't see why anyone would "wait" till it gets cheap. I got it for €41 through XBOX key, no way in hell I'm paying €70, hell €100 for DLCs. Pack up your morals, ATLUS is a shady ass studio and they've already sold more copies than you think.

If you have a friend with Gamepass Ultimate or do the trial you can claim the expansion for nothing and get the DLC installed on your Xbox. The game recognizes the DLC regardless if you’re authorized to redownload it. Compared to P5T, Xbox is technically making it cheaper and cheaper to play Persona.

Reason i gave a negative review on my all time favorite game. We went from being told its not happening, to no re releases and this is the full definition version of persona 3 well oh fuckin well look at where we are. Fuck whoever decided this and hell to atlus for not stepping up on there word.

It should’ve been free and I really don’t wanna spend $35 on something I already know I hate. I am positive they’re going to tell the exact same story as FEZ because the main game was pretty much the same as the original Persona 3. A little bit more added to it but the core story is unchanged. What that would mean for episode Aigis is basically slightly reworked dungeons. In Tartarus from reload still wasn’t even all that good

It'll be 30 hours like the original was 30 hours. Calling it now, no new content, just a missing persona compendium so you have to backtrack to other areas and recollect persona.

This expansion pass is so cynical. Releasing 2 costume packs a couple months apart to pretend like there is a stream of updates is so dumb. Even if I was a super fan who was looking forward to the costumes, what do they expect us to do? Play the whole game again each time a new costume pack comes out? Take 6 months to play the game? Wait until everything is out to play the game? I'm really not sure what crowd was supposed to be pleased by this. Cmon Atlus, at least be good at siphoning money from people.

It's not Atlus that pushes the pricing. Atlus is the developer. They develop that is it. They do not have rights, distribution, pricing, and marketing. That is the publisher Sega. Guess what? You bought the game. And I did as well. They know we will pay for it. And they have us by the balls. Remember, there is always a tax when it comes to first adopters. People are not angry because of the company. They should be angry at themselves. Hot take; this is the industry we gamers paid for. Complain or whine as we might. But the reality is we did it to ourselves. It's like we are battered girlfriends running back to abusers thinking he will change. But we get the same crap. We have to go through the fives stages of grief. The gamers are stuck on anger. Then run back to the abuser to repeat the first two steps. Over and over and over again. Some of us are in depression. I am in the stage of acceptance.

Hot take: Imo it is what it is, I do wish the Reload Expansion pass was cheaper but this is a OPTIONAL DLC, it’s not like Atlus is gonna put a Evoker to your head to do unsavory things and make you buy it. As much it sucks, Atlus does need to make a profit to fund future projects and future games. Correct me if I’m wrong but I believe Atlus does use their some of their profits to fund quality games like the Persona franchise, etc. I understand the outrage, but remember DLC is optional, you don’t have to buy the DLC pack maybe just buy the ones you really want when Reload originally came out but I’ll admit it sucks you can’t buy the expansion pass’s content standalone. Either way, you can experience the game from a playthrough of the DLC without you yourself buying it. And that concludes my hot take. Also you’re entitled to your own opinion, I’m just merely voicing mines. Please don’t see this as an attack against your opinion

Coming from a Nintendo fan, someone who has to deal with bullshit DLC bundles like this ALL THE TIME (Pokémon Scarlet/Violet, Fire Emblem Engage, Xenoblade Chronicles 3, etc.), I've grown so incredibly numb to this 'expansion pack' practice. All companies care about is your money, they don't care about you or your criticisms. Especially if they are charging you HALF of the base game's price for this. I think they should have also given those that bought the Aigis Edition some sort of special pass that grants them access to ALL DLC (even post-launch DLC) for no additional cost. It would have made that $200 purchase a lot more worthwhile. They honestly should have taken a page out of Nintendo's book and have the first two waves of the P3R Expansion Pack (EX BGM and Velvet Costume Set) be free updates to keep players' attention. This is the one time I think a free update cycle could have worked since Persona 3 Reload is already a complete game in it's own right. But, as somebidy who has never played any version of Persona 3 prior to Reload (I heard the 2023 re-release of P3 Portable was pretty bad, so I didn't even bother.), I do want to check out Episode Aigis when it comes out in September out of morbid curiousity. Surely, this little epilouge mode cannot be as bad as everyone says it is, right? ...Right?

Personally, I don't think its all that bad. The Aigis episode clocks in at 35-40 hours. Thats roughly a dollar an hour? Its not the greatest pricing, but it finances Atlus's endeavors so its fine. After all, with Square Enix turning Final Fantasy into an action series/Kingdom Hearts clone, Atlus are the undisputed Kings of traditional JRPGs. Hell, Unicorn Overlord is an SRPG banger. If I have to pay a little extra to ensure they stay doing what they do, its fine.

And at least it's nothing along the lines of Tactica's Day 1 DLC; but it's still bad regardless

Ultimately, Persona 3 Reload is Atlus' worst release of the year. Unicorn Overlord is amazing, SMT V Vengeance will feature actual new story plus reworked mechanics and be a first release on some consoles, Metaphor ReFantazio is what I'm most excited for, a new IP with obvious inspiration from SMT and Persona with its own Identity, Persona 5 The Phantom X is coming on mobile and pc, most likely in the whole world, and at least it still is new story content and also new gameplay, too, as it'll have to rework some stuff, and even Tactica at least was unique if you wanna count it as a release within 12 months. Persona 3 Reload is Just 90$ FES with pretty models and more lines dubbed. but I already played that, I just wish it had Kotone in DLC too, so those 35$ would at least add actual content and replay value worth your time. I wonder if there's more people who played Portable or FES, though... But if they played Portable, they didn't necessarily played using FeMC. Atlus doing an Atlus again... (but can we talk about that massive year they're having, though? they're having a better year than nintendo, that's just crazy.)
