P5's lack of a social link kinda makes no sense since it removes the tension of accidentally making your friend mad at you for saying the wrong thing, in P5 everyone just agrees with you no matter what and it makes the dialogue choices less important and deep.

@@Hirrei Yikes, feels bad. Broke one a few months ago, but the social link still hangs out around my other ones so it's real awkward. I can probably mend it if I ever get the chance.
It's only "easy" to reverse in that the wrong choices are fairly obvious- 1)Criticizing Ai as harshly as possible (as opposed to offering suggestions or asking questions.) 2)Refusing to help Ai, similar to how you can reverse Naoto's Social link by refusing to help her. 3)Saying that no, you can't be friends after the breakup. Compare Yukari, where a lot of Western players might think that hugging her is the best way to comfort her after her run-in with the thugs.
@@mortiphasm6816 I mean, even without knowing how intimate hugs are in Japan.. It's implied Yukari was sexually assaulted, not just assaulted, wouldn't comforting words be better than just immediate physical contact (aka a hug)? Although yeah, it's easy to understand why Western players mess that up.
Japanese are more... conservative. The option to hug in yukari’s SL also insta-reverses. Reversals were common in p3 romaces which honestly os how it should be. You CAN have a harem, but you better work your butt off for it is probably the most tealistic aproach to a harem.
And this is what happened the first time I played Persona 4. I reversed and broke the Moon Social Link. And then I completely ignored her because I didn't feel like I could ever make that social link work. Thanks so much for showing me that Ai could be a good person during the main LP!
I literally didn't know this girl existed during the entirety of my first playthrough (same with the death s-link, I got that in february lmao) and frankly i'm ok with that
@@blackskullknight9062 You can't actually reverse their Social Links, but you can reverse Naoto's Social Link, but only by refusing to help her solve a case in the Social Link, not that you would.
for all I care, I hope Ai gets thrown into the tv. although my memory hasn't been too good lately, so I might *forget* to save her. edit: my friend dared me to pick Ai. that's the only reason I chose her. when I said we need time apart, I thought she would try to say something like, "No! don't leave me!" or something like that. but I was wrong. that's how it happened. as you can see, I got kinda angry.
I love little details like this, and makes me like Persona 4 even more (it is already one of my favorite games of all time.) However, when you think about it, the consequences of reversing a social link seem a bit pointless, since you could always save scum (that is, go back to a previous save file,) and pick the right answer. Still, thank you for uploading this!
This comment section is just filled with people who couldn't get through either rank 1 or 4, I see. Character development exists, people. Look at Yumi, Sayoko, Naoki... The list goes on.
Damn. Now this makes me wish there was at least an option for stuff like this to happen in P5R. But I guess it makes sense since it's mostly smi-on rails story
@@alatsus people suggested that the reversal (doubt in P5) should've been added to merciless or hard difficulty in P5R and tbh, I think it would be interesting for the more seasoned players
@@alatsus nah, they removed the "doubt" mechanic because they made it so if you didn't spend time with the confidants for a while it instantly reverses, making the game way more stressfull than it already is
I guess you could say by choosing "We need time apart", that AI respect you for being honest (thus the Rank up), but that Yu don't have the will to forgive her (thus the Break). I honestly feel like this is the most unique Break condition in the franchise because it feels the most intentional by the player. You can say some dumb stuff in P3 and manage to repair it easily unless you're extra dumb, but in P4 you need to deliberately choose to be against Ai. By wanting time away from her, it's not Ai breaking the link, it's Yu.
I actually find it hard to romance her lol but I'm getting the hang of it finally. Haven't finished her social link tho. I have a lot of dungeons to finish
I didnt know you could break a link. Although, I spoke to this character exactly once be going nope and went to see if Chie was on the roof and I forgot she existed.
I only broke it once and it was through ai and I was like BrUh but then I fixed it. They were also going to add the chance to reverse social links in p5 and it was easier to break them because it could happen to any of the social links if they weren't a phantom thieves membes.
So pretty much just SAVE THE GAME before ever speaking to this Ai character; seems easy enough to do. Also her artwork makes her look...ugly. Like, I don't get why she's considered 'beautiful' when she always has a haughty look on her face. I dunno, ATLUS could've done much better with her artwork.
Omg literally all the characters in persona 3 and 4 are drawn so ugly. Especially Yosuke and that theatre girl. I kind of miss it because I feel like p5 is too attractive. The ugly gave it some charm and variety.

@TrueAlfalfaMale The designer for the p5 characters originally had some "ugly" characters. For example, Takemi was originally planned to look unaproachable with "killer" eyes. But the director told them that the women in the game needed to be attractive, so they softened her design A LOT. I have no problems with cute characters (I even romanced takemi in my 1st playthrough), but when everyone looks perfect it makes for some bad character designs. Not that the persona 5 designs are all bad, but we could've had even more variety. At least the characters are still written well. It's just sad that they compromise cool character designs for generic waifus to sell the game.
@TrueAlfalfaMale I'd also like for more non dateable characters in future persona games. In p3 and p4 we had old ladies, little kids, animals, etc. I also wish they'd have more classmates (non party) because the school was pretty useless in p5. The director for persona (3,4,5) stepped down, so who knows what the future of persona will be like.
Lately I was wondering which character I accidentally reversed in P4 and why it made me laughed Now I remember. It was her. And I had absolutely no regret.
I always forget breaking a social link is a thing in 4 because there are only 2 social links that have it and it is so much easier to avoid than in Persona 3.
I am real glad they decided to scrap this mechanic in 5. Otherwise, I would only ever play the game with a full confidant guide to make sure I never got a wrong answer. Screw that. If and when I ever go play 3 and 4, I'm looking up every confidant beforehand. I know I've heard people say how difficult it is to rank up everyone in past games, and it's hard enough as is maxing out confidants in 5 by the end of the game. Without the risk of it getting stuck or broken.
To be honest, Persona 4 isn't all that bad. It's just what's detailed in the video, along with one instance with the Fortune Social Link, that can reverse a social link. Persona 3 though...yeaaah you're spot on.
Here's one thing that happened in an LP of Persona 3 Portable. The LPer choose to form a romantic relationship with Shinjiro, but at rank 9 of Akihiko's Social Link, it ended up being the romance route and he didn't exactly pick the right words to keep the Social Link in tack while avoiding being in a relationship, which results in him picking the opinion "I'm sorry but...", leaving Akihiko obviously being heartbroken and the Social Link broke as a result. Yeah, you have to be careful with what you say, some words you choose to say can lead to consequential results, even if it doesn't seem all that bad, the character might not take it very well.
*Bum Bum music plays* Your social link has broken.... A rift has formed in your relationship... *Mends social-link* .................... *Waits for music* Ai: Bye b*tch!
Dayum, I knew it was possible to reverse social links or even transform one in the case of Adachi, but this’s the first time hearing about just destroying one entirely.
A reverse social link means that you have to spend extra time with the person in order to fix the relationship and continue the social link. A broken social link means you don't have access to their benefits, and requires max Expression to fix, as opposed to just spending extra time.
Reversed social links are easier to fix than a broken one. You just need to spend time with her to fix a reversed social link. You need max expression to fix a broken one.

Glad P5 got rid of this. It had literally no purpose in the game and the choices are so obviously bad no one would choose it. Picking the right choices to rank up is hard enough in the first place.
in P3 sometimes it would happen without trying like spending time with other girls and i think not talking to them for a while when ranking them up which i can see being a bit more believable being jealous of other girls and slightly more planning involved
