Meghan Sullivan... YOu couldv given this game a 1 i wouldnt care.... You analyzed and reflected upon the game has a whole, mentioning it's details and contents... i am proud... If only the chick that did Pokemon review could learn from you..
i'm so proud of her, she hits every points and grades it on a proper scaling from music, to combat system, to map, to gameplay, story, and etc. It's been awhile since i seen a honest review that didn't harbor on a specific negative which for some games gives it a 6.5 when it is at least an 8
SilverShion The score is not the problem really...thats whatever. The problem was the review it self. Watch the video and you will see how she made no initiative to explain a elaborate detail on the games new improvements and to why she feels 7.8 was justified.
***** a review is supposed to talk about the new features, not the improvements. They would be repeating themselves everytime they review a new call of duty, or assasins creed o any sports game.
SilverShion"A review is supposed to talk about new features"........why should reviewers feel the need to ignore new improvements over new features? New features is great, but whats the purpose of buy a new game if no new improvement was made from the previous game? I honestly don't see COD, AC or sports fan buying new games simply over new features. You can add in new features as much as you want to a game but it the same dull formula is there then it sorta just makes the new features null in void.
This review...actually felt legit! She went over almost all the aspects of the game and went into detail about it (to a good extent anyway) and brought up good and possible bad points in the game that would affect your choice in getting the game. She also sounded like she actually played the game(big points right there)! This was a great review! Not only for the game, but the way it was presented as well! Keep doing reviews like these IGN, reviews that actually seem like someone's real opinion (and someone who actually knows about the franchise or genre. Wow...I said actually a lot.)!
Wow can we get a Re-Review on the Pokemon with this reviewer? All details explained and gave an adequate reason for the scoring. As a person who only trolls on youtube, I applaude the well thought out review.
This is one of the best review videos IGN has put out in a while, it goes over many aspects of the game and the faults that were pointed out were reasonable. Good job.
wow someone on IGN that actually knows what there talking about, they should just fire all the other reviewers that can review crap and let her do them since she actually tries to play the game more than 10mins
Definitely true and he has been my favorite reviewer since he enjoys expressing his love for games but he seems to be more suited for play station releases as a whole rather then releases from a specific series.
Harry- kun i bet if you handed this game to him hed still praise it regardless. I hope he brings it up in the next podcast so we can hear his brief thoughts. Ps i love your name and avatar. Quite clever
So I just realized that with the P4 setting taking place in spring of 2011, the characters of P4 could have warned the P3 characters about the Fukushima disaster that occurred in March of 2011.
I love this game simply because it was my FIRST Persona game, it introduced me into the series, and IMMEDIATELY bought a PS Vita to play Persona 4 GOLDEN
Because instead of actually reading the reviews and applying those points with context into the pros/cons, people skip to the number and think they're clever when they knock it.
Andrew May That and the review we are actually talking about did not address anything informative about the game, instead it was just a fangirl praising the series over and over again mentioning some personal issues she had with Ruby and Sapphire..
I don't really get the point of this Persona game on 3ds. Almost no one know the story of the previous games. I was really hoping for a Persona 3 and Persona 4 crossover, but not one like Etrian Odyssey. I really wanted a proper Persona game :'(
***** but at least in the vita you can play p3p and p4g. Is like releasing a fanservice Halo game in nintendo. I'm pretty sure that almost everyone won't understand what's going on lol But I think it's all because the Etrian Odyssey team have a deal with nintendo or something like that.
Darak Zx I have to agree, Persona Q is only suitable to those who have played the previous P3 and P4. Because if not, they would totally have no idea what is going on lol
Well the general amount of Sales is going to come from Persona fans and Shin Megami Tensei was a big hit on the 3DS, Persona is a subseries of SMT which means there is already a stock of SMT fans on the 3ds not to mention the SMT Devil Survivor games and Devil Summoner (the first in that series to be on the 3ds with DS1&2 on ps2). I really don't see what the confusion is about. SMT has a long history with the Ds series.
This review is spot on with almost everything I thought about Persona Q. Hands down my game of the year for the 3DS. As for Nintendo owner not knowing anything about Persona 3 & 4 stories, that why it pays not to be a fan boy. P3 FES and P4Golden were great!
When i learned the truth behind the labyrinths it honestly made me cry worse than any smt or persona game had. This game went from happy crossover to depression quite fast
I love how I don't have to waste 30 minutes redoing a fusion just to get the right fucking skills. Now that we can just choose it is much less of an inconvenience. It was never really a challenge just time consuming and inconveniencing pressing the same button over and over. I hope this returns in Persona 5.
Let me check my games of 2014 list. So far DKC Tropical Freeze Titanfall Mario Kart 8 Smash for 3DS Bayonetta 2 Hyrule Warriors So all I need now is... Persona Q Pokemon OR/AS (Ugh) Sonic Boom Wii U Watch Dogs (waiting on eBay $4 used) Smash for Wii U Call of Duty Advance Warfare Madden 15 NBA 2K15 And Kingdom Hearts 2.5 remix
This year was controversial but great enough for me. Next year, I'm gonna hit the shelves when MGSV Phantom Pain, Silent Hill with an S, the next Gears of War, Uncharted 4, hopefully Red Orchestra 2: In Country Vietnam, and anything that is awesome to play. Maybe DOOM!
Hexn I'll add Dragon Age but not Far Cry. Sorry, I had it with Ubisoft crap. That's why I'm getting Watch Dogs used for $4 bucks if I can find it on eBay used
Thanks for the Persona 4 spoiler... I was kind of in the middle of my first playthrough in Golden. Overall a really good review, with a legitimately pleased-sounding reviewer. Though it seems to misrepresent the series. At least a little recognition that it's not the first dungeon crawler in the Megami Tensei series would be nice. This is not a mix of Persona and Etrian Odyssey. It's a mix of Persona 1 and 3 and 4 (or Soul Hackers; or Strange Journey)
Rocky-Senpai I won't pretend to know anything else about the game as I haven't played it, but it's a first person dungeon crawler. Persona 1, Soul Hackers, and Strange Journey are also all first person dungeon crawlers. That's really all I was saying. But they definitely do have that in common. Like I said, it's not the first. To say otherwise is kinda silly
I was at the mall and was walking past the GameStop and I saw Persona Q and I noticed it was for the DS and my heart sank because I wanted it for PS3 or PS4
Is IGN the only channel to give this game a video review? Guess I'll have to wait for user reviews to come in. Not that this review is bad but I'm not going to base my purchase on it alone.
What's the order of the Persona storys? From what I understand it's Persona 3, Persona 4 Golden, Persona 4 Arena, and then Arena 2? Where does this one fit in? Will 5 be after all of these?
this one is non canon, so it doesn't fit into that, but it does take place during the culture festival in persona 4. and some sort of time warp happens bringing the p3 crew in, you can tell its non cannon though because of 2 things though. I will warn you about spoilers for p3 if you haven't seen it already though. SPOILER ALERT Shinjiro is Dead by the time Aigis gains a full personality and they are both there.
Persona 4 (April to October) > Persona Q(culture festival) > Persona 4 (October to March) > Persona 4 Arena and Persona 4 Arena Ultimax(Golden Week, April) > Persona 4 Dancing All Night (i guess)
I liked Etrian Odyssey, really I did, but I remember ranting over the demo for 10 min about the goddamn manual mapping. After a few minutes I became tolerant of it. I really hate the manual mapping system for a persona game though. Auto mapping attempts to help, but it isn't actual auto mapping. It surely doesn't help that your current location cursor takes note of further away walls when your "auto mapping" won't even commit to tracing it in.
Considering that I really love Etrian Odessey, I'm probably gonna love this. >w< Plus I love games that have awesome/interesting dynamic characters so....
She was talking about the labyrinth-esque game design. Yes, it was to promote Etrian Odyssey, but it was also a throwback to the first 3 Persona games. You know, 1 & 2.
Hes pointing out that there are no characters from the earlier Personas. You know, because Atlus and current Persona fans seem to think the series started at 3.
Persona didn't borrow any elements from Etrian Odyssey. If you've ever played the Persona games for the snes you'll know that it was just going back to its roots. If anything Etrian Odyssey borrow game play from Persona.
can you turn off the cut-in images when attacking shadows. I don't know why but I haven't experienced any of this during my playthrough. like in 0:03 ?
The battle system is fun. and I love the characters, I'm worried about the adventure mode. There is no navigation through the maps, and the labyrinth seems to require a lot of patience. I may wait for a price drop. I love the animation and music though.
natvader What's so bad about it? In any event, are you aware that an auto-map feature exists, which can be turned on and off at will? If its anything like the most recent auto-mapper that we got in Etrian Odyssey Untold, then it will fill in tiles on the map whenever you step on them AND it will draw any adjacent walls that you walk past for you. So there is no need at all to do any corridor drawing or whatnot if you don't want to because that gets auto-mapped unless you choose to disable auto-mapping yourself. The game also offers the options for you to add annotations and notes to remind you of stuff if you want to…. but you don't even need to use them if you don't want to. Seriously, what's the big problem with the mapping, particularly when they've removed so much of the actual work in mapping through the auto-mapper?
Generally you have to place the stairs icon if you want it to be one the map. At least, in past EO games… can't say about PQ as I haven't played PQ yet. And its a good idea to annotate the existence of shortcuts or other locations of interest. But you aren't actually REQUIRED to do that. But in terms of tiles and walls that you walk on and past - THAT is auto-mapped. The first print run of Persona Q (physical version) comes with a few extras packaged along with the game. This is true regardless of whether one gets the regular or limited edition, but of course the limited edition has more packaged and is also more expensive. Presumably this is part of the reason that the game is priced more expensively. The first print run of SMT IV (also by the same company, ATLUS) also had extra items packaged in and also was $50 new instead of the regular $40. At the end of the day, its you choice of whether its still worth it at that price (or if you choose to wait or not buy in the first place). I've pre-ordered the regular edition, but everyone has different desires and preferences regarding gaming, after all.
Don't play it until you played either persona 3 or 4 because their our way to many call backs to the original games in it, and it even takes place in the middle of both games, so play one of the games first and you'll be fine
Peter Jumper People should take the game less seriously, though. Especially when it's fanfi-I mean, storyline is such blatant fanservice (at least it's not as bad as Arena 2's).
MrFinalgamer The storyline isn't an actual concern to me. I'm playing the game because I love the Etrian Odyssey series and its another game with the Etrian style gameplay. That and I also loved P3 and P4, so getting Etrian with a Persona twist is cool. But I was always more interested in the gameplay aspects (team/ability building, Etrian difficulty, Persona fusion, RPG combat, etc.) than the storyline. Story is nice when its good, but its something that isn't high on my priority list here in an RPG.
i want to ask : should i ONLY play this when i finish other persona games? because i havent played any? or its a different story and nor related to the previous games? please answer :D
This game is pretty much a fanservice experience for those that have played both persona 3 and persona 4. There are many references from those games. That being said, if this is your first persona experience it shouldn't hinder your enjoyment with it. This game has its own self contained story and gameplay mechanics that makes it different from p3 and p4. I'd say if you're looking to get into the persona games is to start with persona 3. If you have a ps3 or vita you can get them from the psn store.
Milton O'Bannon wow, thank you! i liked the way it looks and it seems interesting. however, since its a fanservice than maybe i should catch up on the others games.. i can see persona3 on ps3 or vita :) if i liked it than i'll consider buying this since its a dungeon based.... thanks again :D
I've been looking forward to this game for quite a while, since I love handheld RPGs and dungeon crawlers, but will I be able to enjoy this without having played Persona 3 and 4? I haven't finished 4 yet and have never played 3.
I'm assuming you own P4 so I think you should finish the game first and then play PQ with P4 protag route. Or at least get to the culture festival part which was in September or October.
Why is everything compared to Etrian Odyssey? I know Atlus is tied to both, but you can keep it in the SMT family by comparing it to games like Strange Journey, Soul Hackers, or even the original Persona games. Granted, the map system is a lot like Etrian Odyssey, but as far as the battles, it's just classic SMT.
EO is very different when it comes to party customization and battle mechanics. I don't know why people want this to be considered SMT when it's really Wizardry /s
I didn't know it had a first person view when in dungeons that kinda disappoints me But my real issue with this game is all the voice changes though Other then that I'm sure ill love it
I've never played a Persona game before but tell me if my assessment is close or not. You play some guy who goes to school, has a close group of friends, and many possible love interests. But when he goes to sleep he enters a world of demons and shit that want to end him. Also he shoots himself in the head and magical things happen. Am I close or way off?
thats only in persona 3 and hes not sleeping him and a few other people experience an extra hour every day where monsters appear and they try to stop it p4 youre trying to solve a murder by going inside of tvs lol theyre less ridiculous when you play them
I thought they are gonna give another weird review like *Too much puzzle* *Too much Personas* *Too much grinding* *Too much characters* *Too much talking/dialogue* *Too long gameplay* but hey they didn't and that's a surprise.
Maybe it wouldn't take as long for you to backtrack if you, I dunno... Used the R or L button instead of having to turn everywhere? Or or! How about this? B button to run. Autopilot. Rush mode.
Persona Q looks good but as someone who knows literally *NOTHING* about the series (never played *any* of the games), think I'll stick to the Etrian Odyssey games, which I've been playing since the first entry. From the review, it doesn't seem "friendly" to non-Persona fans or people who've never experienced the games.
Should I play this game in easy? I love Persona 4 story when I watched the anime and I do really want to play the games but I can't get my hands on it. I have 2DS and later I'm having a copy of it. I never really played a JRPG so I was worried if this game is too punishing for me.
You dont have to play persona 3 and 4, so you wont feel confused of anything in this game. Though u should play the persona series, it's a great franchise :D
