Used airplanes for sale www.aeroavion.com
Buying a personal aircraft is every pilots dream. Unfortunately the cost of aircraft have seen a significant rise in the last 2 years. In some cases you are now paying double the price from the cost of these airplanes just 2 years ago.
A cessna 150 for example is your typical entry level airplane. A few years ago, you could purchase one for under $20,000. Now you're looking at some 150s in the $50,000 range.
A Cirrus SR22T G6 now cost north of $1.2 million dollars. Normally when you're spending that kind of cash, you usually are looking to buy a turboprop or turbine jet. Not anymore. Single piston aircraft now cost over a million dollars.

For more than 10 years I have had the luxury of being flown 70% of time private. Now I’m ready to go for training, license and future ownership. As a newcomer to this side of aviation these prices help me to establish a budget, not be shocked as my frame of reference is very limited. I already know private aviation is EXPENSIVE. What I value are people with great intentions I can rely on to help me with a well informed decision without getting ripped off. I have found Mojo to be this type of resource. 👍🏾

Paid $90K for a 1968 Cherokee 180 with low TT, low engine time, ADS-B out/in back in August. That felt crazy high. Now I'm seeing similar models, many lesser equipped, for over $100K. Feels like the used GA Piston market is doing what the used car market was doing 12-18 months ago.

@@waveydaveyav8r442 you assume correctly, steam gauges, no GPS. The one thing it does have though is the Stratus ESG transponder and receiver so I have full ADS/B out and ADS/B in on my iPads. Primary issue seems to be (as MojoGrip covers here) a big jump in demand. Especially for training aircraft. From what I understand, the last two years have seen big increases in the number of student pilot certificates being issued.

There's a significant risk of a recession in 2023, which could dramatically impact big ticket items like real estate and airplanes. If I was contemplating a large purchase, I'd try to hold my powder, for now. Add to that Climate Change rules plan to eliminate all fuels. " Net-Zero Emissions Target Set By ICAO for 2050 The “collective long-term aspirational goal” pushes forward industry efforts to make aviation as a whole more sustainable. During the 41st International Assembly last week, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) adopted the “collective long-term aspirational goal” of net-zero carbon emissions for the aviation industry by 2050, according to an ICAO statement. The meeting brought together more than 2,500 delegates from 184 states and 57 organizations in Montreal, Canada. “States’ adoption of this new long term goal for decarbonized air transport, following the similar commitments from industry groups, will contribute importantly to the green innovation and implementation momentum which must be accelerated over the coming decades to ultimately achieve emissions-free powered flight,” said Salvatore Sciacchitano, president of the ICAO Council. The goal requires financing and other forms of support from member states, and paying for the changes needed will tax a system that has recently undergone quite a bit of stress. www.flyingmag.com/net-zero-emissions-target-set-by-icao-for-2050/

@@waveydaveyav8r442 "How do they expect us to be able to afford to fly?" THAT is the $64M (inflation!) question, sir. One short answer is going with the Experimental/Amateur-built (E/AB) if you want a new(er) airframe. Although, look for the FAA to revisit the rules and regs. Some build-assist outfits are literally offering to "build your airplane for you", which flies in the face of the FAA's blessing and intent of build-assist. Over the years, the FAA has told us that it is in their best interest, and the county's best interest to keep aviation affordable for the "average" citizen, and not just the elite. How to tackle that? I just don't know. Although, the FAA can point to Ultralights and Light-Sport aircraft and say, "See! Affordable!"

The pandemic and other economic factors have certainly driven up General Aviation aircraft cost across-the-board. I wonder if some of the spike in the prices in the low end segment of the market typified by 40 year old Cessnas and Pipers has also been driven by more and more recent conversions to modern avionics, not to mention the expense of adding ADSB to comply with the FAA mandate. These kind of requirements always hit the low end commercial segment of the market disproportionally when it comes to cost and barrier to entry.

I'm not sure what the definition of a "reasonable" price for an airplane is. Is it, "because I want one, they should be priced so I'm able to afford it!"? Is it a case of, "every one is asking a price more than I can afford, and people are paying it!"? What's happening is asking-price -vs- agreed upon pricing. Cirrus could ask over $2M bucks for an SR-22, and if they get orders - that's the price. Owner partnerships are great on paper. Every now and then, they even work out. I know one pilot that owned 1/4-share of a '80s C-172. He had that share for three-years, selling it last Spring. He ran the math, and with his return on that share, he paid just over $25.00 an hour - with fuel - for his investment. If you go partnership, Make sure every share owner has enough skin in the game to treat the plane as if they own 100% of it.

This is depressing. I do remember sesrching barnstormers and tradeaplane a few years ago a well equipped cherokee was like 25k. These planes are OLD AND TIRED. Another thing you also didnt mention is scalpers and flippers. Theyre also driving alot of the high prices by keeping the lower priced planes off the market. I saw a commanche with a fresh annual and G5 and 650 on sale on ebay for 30k and it was sold in 1 hour. 2 weeks later the buyer had it listed on facebook for 95k with potential buyers at their feet in the dozens. Like you said theres alot more free money floating around and higher demand so these flippers are snapping up the deals and flipping them for double sometimes triple what they bought them for. Additionally you have a large influx of inexperienced pilots willing to pay "whatever market price is". The instagram and tik tok influencers who only got their license to make content. That are willing to pay whatever the market asks. This is also propping up the high prices
@EJWash57

Good points. Keep in mind that the Piper PA-28 wing spar Airworthiness Directive (AD) which coincided with the Pandemic, initially drove that model's resale prices through the floor. Has Cirrus factory price also gone up to 1.2mill or is it just second hand because of waiting lists? The Eclipse 500 twin jet started at 775k. With this price craziness there must be big opportunities for new players to create something at much better value for the money. A plane is just not that complicated. Manufacturing cars is vastly more difficult and they cost nothing compared to planes. A modern plane is a hot tub with a briggs and stratton or industrial hairdryers. With the right setup you could stamp them out for pennies.

@DanFrederiksen Год назад
@@cessna177flyer3 obviously there are economies of scale but a Nissan Versa sedan with aircon is about 15k$, 12k only a couple of years ago. Whereas a Cirrus is closer to 1 million. And the Versa is the more sophisticated vehicle of the two. SR22 literally uses a 1950 engine design. You can compare to low volume car producers like Lotus, their prices have risen a lot lately and they are changing but a 2015 Exige price was 66k$ and the Elise I think was cheaper. These are small simple cars and Lotus was in constant state of bankruptcy but it goes to show that it's not impossible to do low volume at prices not wildly different from mass production. Say no more than factor 4 more expensive. And indeed german made FK14 complete plane is less than 150k. And they make vastly fewer than Cirrus. 442 SR planes in 2021. If the price was 1/10, that market might be 100x larger. If the plane was ambitious in design instead of a WWII tractor engine, that market could be much bigger still. Another way to look at it is how far along would electric cars be if not for Elon Musk. That can tell you what actually thinking and doing can do versus the status quo mindless. And I assure you, an aircraft done well would run circles around an SR22 at 1/5 the price, even run circles around a visionjet. Do you think Elon Musk would accept lycoming and incontinental charging 140k$ for a 1950 era 590 engine. Or would he murder them with extreme prejudice as they deserve for their 70 year betrayal. Even Cirrus is a challenger to the absolute stagnation in GA. Beechcraft Bonanza is technically still being produced but I think I heard that their sales are so low that not one was sold in 2020 or 2021. How do you produce an aircraft for 77 years running sales down to zero and never once realize there is a need for progress. Same goes for lycoming and incontinental. And Cessna. I find them guilty as charged.
