Harry, we all can't thank you enough for sharing your knowledge to leather crafters and the industry. Your obviously a really nice guy and your video's are making a difference in all of our lives!
Hi Harry. I would just like to tell you that I stumbled across your videos a while ago, and they are brilliant, no mater the subject the way you present yourself brings light and comfort to my life. Suffer from mental health problems, that has included severe pain self harm and so on, I am male 33yrs old. I had no affinity towards the subjects you talk about and your craft is not something I ever thought I would enjoy watching, but as mentioned the way you do your videos, the way you present yourself just keeps my mind off and away from the badness in my life and keeps me calm and sane. It may sound extremely strange what I have just said but it's all true, please keep up the amazing videos, and well done to you for being such an amazing craftsman, a nice calm persona and an inspiring talent. Daniel
Daniel Evans I had 4 kinds of depression and pdst and addiction and chronic pain for 50 yrs of my life. Suicidal and hopeless...but a man prayed for me and I have been 4yrs without any of that...COMPLETELY HEALED!!! JGLM is a good place to start. Plz never give up...
Jane Bray Thank you so much for the message, people who are in and around my family simply do not understand the world of anything under the terms of mental health and any associated problems, which in turn makes it difficult, but it is important to keep your eyes open, mind focused on your own feelings and build your own path. Now I live on my own without the stresses and expectations of other people, along with people like Harry to watch and take the mind to a nice good place is therapy in itself.
You've got such a natural manner of exposition, it's like you have a valued customer before you in the shoppe and you're explaining the ways and means by which you are going to produce the requested item and the why. As always, well done Harry!
I have just read Daniel Evans post and it is true, you really are a great teacher Harry! After watching your video's, we all feel as though we could do it and we feel good about ourselves.
As usual, Harry Rogers shows us in his manner the way of leather working. I really learned a lot out of his youtube videos. Not excited and like a barker, but cool, thoughtful and with the British understatement that is so unique among the sisters and brothers on the island. And go on. Super work!)) Greetings from the continent.
Just stumbled on your channel. Had to subscribe for more than one reason. Obviously you are a very seasoned pro at what you do. What makes your postings even more enjoyable is your narration.....like a professional radio/tv announcer. You actually sound like a play by play cricket commentator!
Wiltshire Man Hello Sandy..yes that works very well ...same with my makers mark on my belts. Your knives look great. The heat does a bit more of a sharp impression for naming....it would work without.
I just pick up one today. A little rusty on the handle bar and the middle. Part that goes down is rusty too. How do i go about polishing it. And also the Black base how do i clean it . I dont want to use the wrong cleaning method.
Hi, pls how do i get my brushed cleaned up after i have use it to apply Gum( adhesive)? Is there any solvent that i could use! And what is the name please.
Tks for your video, I saw this kind of machine in a Singapore's shopping mall. But I think the price is over USD 500/unit. In Vietnam, with this high price, nobody is ready to buy it. I can built it for myself and not for commercial purpose.
Great video Harry! What temperature do you heat the letters to? I have some engraved burning stamps with logos and designs on them that I use to burn in to wood and leather. Is this press similar to that or does this work at a low temp? Thanks
Thank you Harry for the video. Question; I have an old hot foil stamping machine very similar to yours, and I'm trying to achieve a deeper deboss is there a cushion or a different setting i need for that? And also how can I emboss? Thank you 😊
Hello Elizabeth, I find it helps to put a bit of soft leather under the impression area, and also to moisten the leather you are debossing. To emboss you need a reverse stamp.
Hello! I would like to know where can i find a machine like yours and the leather? Is it possible to get smaller letters for the same machine? Thank you!!
Hey Harry! Do you have any advice or ideas on what to use for the "carriage" or some type of alignment holder for the type? I have a 2nd hand set of letterpress type. Im having a bit of a ruff time getting the alignment correctly. I have been using a bit of a crude method. I'm sure there's a better way. I basically taped 3 letters together with masking tape and just struck it with a rubber mallet. The debossing is decent but it's very hard to get it right and constant. I'm going to investing in an arbor press soon but ide still like to find a carriage or holder to get better results and ruduce wear on the type. But first time I completely ruined one of my letters... Any help or advice you can give would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Hi perhaps take a look at my film on using a PID controller to make a heated press as in that film I am using a slip case in a home made carrier on an arbor press....it will be in the leather playlist.
Hi Harry, could you not just press down and get the same impression without the use of the heat? or is the heat needed on finished painted leather? confused.
Hello Harry, I love your work and learn so much from you! May I ask you a tip please? I try to put my name on a leather clutch with a heating press. The clutch has a lining so it makes the leather soft and when I stamp, the foil goes on the letter and around the mold. Do you have a tip so it can be clean please?
Hi assuming you have deeply engraved letters possibly try another make of foil...they do vary...try cooler and try hot but for a very brief hit...good luck.
Great stuff, as always, Harry. Could you recommend a leatherwork supplier for a beginner? I’m looking to equip myself with a basic set of tools (I watched your video!), & some suitable leather for making tool sheaths for axes, draw knives etc.
How does one emboss Chrome Leather? I have tried stamping by hammering, but am unsuccessful. I might try heating the stamp up to 200 deg F and then stamping with it. I think I saw in another video that this is the right temperature setting. I hope that it works.
Hi Barbara...a lot of people use the brass letters in a holder ...the type you get on EBay and etsy..so perhaps you do not need a press, but if you do then in the UK something like the one here is pretty good...depends on budget and whether you are happy with second hand....I did not pay a lot for this one and they do crop up from time to time.
Hi Harry. Love your videos. I notice you're using a Kwikprint in this vid. I'd love one but they are pricey. Can you recommend any other hot stamping machines for a lower budget? Cheers
Please help! I have been in an accident which broke the glass off both of my headlights, cracked my hood and broke the grill of my car. How can I fix this myself? I have a 93 Oldsmobile Cutless Ciera S.
Hi, i've picked up some engineer boots that are embossed with a design i would like to remove. Is there a process that will remove the embossment? Tx very much
hello, first of all great video!! I have not find a place that could personalize my leather briefcase and i would really like to do it. would it be possible for me to send you by mail my item and pay you? it is nothing complicated only my initials in two leather strips for me to then attach to my briefcase. thank you in advance!
This one is a Kwikprint. Probably best to look out for a second-hand one unless you have deep pockets. I have posted a film on how you can do the electronics with a PID.
Harry Rogers the price I found is over £800 up to £1,000 is there a particular online website or shop in London I can purchase? I don’t mind second hand at all
