Persuasion 1995 - "Far Away" Wentworth & Anne 

Now, after seeing several versions of this film, I'm convinced that Ciaran Hinds is the definitive Wentworth. Well for me anyway. I am now in search of everything he's done...What an amazing actor. They say the eyes are the window to the soul. That man has GREAT windows! I think I feel a swoon coming on... haha.

Amanda Root is a pitch-perfect film Austen heroine - a jewel of sanity set among fools and fops - believable in both her fear and her strengths. Her silences are so full of intelligence - at first her quietness is that of a resigned & haunted woman - so sad at losing the quiet country life that suits her and the sea suits the captain... And then facing love in the present, her quietness is revealed as grace itself. A perfect film- shot so that we see nature, class, and manners as Austen did.

Anne taking his arm is even more moving than the kiss.

My favorite version of "Persuasion." Ciaran Hinds is amazing as Wentworth and just as I always pictured the character. The movie and novel are all about subtext and feelings conveyed through looks and limited interactions, two people nursing heartbreak. No version since has mastered what this version does - phenomenal acting for both Anne and Wentworth. Wentworth in this film is just as he is in the book - completely unreadable. Anne doesn't know what he's feeling because he shows her absolutely NOTHING. He hides behind his heartbreak. It isn't until the letter at the very end where we see that he has loved her this entire time. Awesome video!

Love this adaptation. Hinds is superb and gorgeous.

This adaptation is PERFECT!

The actress was 31-32 when this was filmed. CH/Wentworth was 42. I don't think she looks 40. No makeup though, as per the director, to make them all look more natural, unlike every other romantic/period film. I think the casting of both leads was great. Both have great, expressive eyes, which reflect lots of feeling and supressed passion, in keeping with both the book and the time period. Well, IMO. :) She definitely looks prettier/younger in Bath, as she starts coming back to life.

Say whatever you want, but Ciaran Hinds is the perfect man to play any Jane Austen's novels. I loved him in this one and in 'Jane Eyre'.

I just have to say, I have the biggest crush on Ciaran Hinds! sigh... He's so wonderful in this role. Perfection. I could totally see him as a sea captain. Strong, rugged, a little weather-beaten. He could totally hold his own in hand to hand combat. Well, at least he looks like he could. I have to watch this vid on a regular basis. hahaha! I have the dvd of the film too, so I periodically watch it, as well. I've seen many of CH's films/roles. He always delivers. Fantastic actor.

I love this movie - although - Pride and Prejudice has it's charm - this one re-tells story of a "lost love and what seems lost" wasn't after all. Love it - the words and Captain Wentworth's expression how truly he loves Anne.. is so totally engaging. When this part comes to play - you can't help rewinding the video to watch and listen to those words again.

This song is so fitting for Anne and Frederick. I love it when the clips match the lyrics, and you did that so well. "stop breathing..." playing when she grips the chair..."I forgive you" playing when Frederick says he tried to forget her. Oh!! It was all so well done! The AR/CH movie is the definitive version of Persuasion. You truly believe that these two characters take each other's breath away. Thank you for creating this video!!

@KDRainstorm I second that. I've seen both, also. RPJ IS very good looking and probably closer to the right age, but I ADORE Ciaran Hinds. He captures the character and the book so well. In the first section, he's civil, aloof, but you can tell he still has feelings for her. After Lyme, he realizes and admits to himself that he still loves Anne. In Bath, he's hopeful, jealous and uncertain. All in the book, and CH totally nails it. Breathtaking, Amazing actor! Also like AR better than SH. jmho

I love this BBC version adapted from the book. Anne and the captain never needed to speak many words because their faces and expressions convey so much emotion. It shows in this video montage you put together. The song and images are perfectly matched. Nice work KD!

Far away goes so well with parts of the film that you have added. This version IN MY OWN OPINION is better than the 2008 version as I thought the 2008 version was rushed. This version, I totally felt the feelings of Captain Wentworth and Anne. Ciaren Hinds did an amazing job. I love Jane Austen novels!!! Who agrees? :)

@KDRainstorm I feel like I've re-discovered this story, after seeing this film version. I'm totally in love with Ciaran Hinds. Amazing actor. Not, perhaps, conventionally handsome, but so dreamy, so expressive, so passionate yet understated. And then so uncertain in Bath, but in the end, that LETTER! Oh my, here I go swooning again! I watched the film again today, inspired by this music video. I never tire of it. Or CH as Wentworth. All the other actors are amazing too. Total Perfection. sigh.

@33dsh Ciaran Hinds played Mr. Rochester in Jane Eyre. He is older and heavier but still fabulous. I have seen several versions of Jane Eyre (even the one that came out recently) and he is my favorite Mr. Rochester - great actor.

Wonderful video! No other Wentworth comes close to Ciaran! Rupert Penry Jones is pretty, but Ciaran Hind's Wentworth stole my heart in 1995! This is a great movie -- and under-rated!

P&P is like a romantic comedy and Persuasion has such deep, longing emotion in it. I love reading classics..and this is one classic book i never tire of reading over and over again.. This version is my favorite. I give credit to all other actors whom portrayed Mr Wentworth but Ciaran Hinds is the only Wentworth for me. Love your editing..

@saitobio I've several "Jane Eyre"s too. His is not my fav version of that story, but I think that's due to the direction and editing of the film. I absolutely LOVE CH, tho! I've seen him in many films and TV series/mini-series, and he's an AMAZING actor. HBO's "Rome" wow. "Prime Suspect" (w/Helen Mirren), "Amazing Grace", "Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day", "The Mayor of Casterbridge". Need to see "Eclipse" and upcoming "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy". He's so good! Wish I could see him on stage.
