I saw an actor who looked like King George the 6th in the clips. Was he featured in the Sea Devils? Great video. "In the Shed with Chosen Chimp' is great idea! Patty from Ohio
One of my favourite silly things in this story is the prison guard who flicks his gun back and forth as he fires it, almost as if he’s trying to propel the bullets out of the barrel himself.
Happy birthday chimp. I've got such fond memories of this one, likewise introduced via the BBC 2 early 90s showing. The music really helps this one stand out.
A really interesting video. I found your channel with your Cybermen videos and have watched a few others. I've always been aware of Doctor Who but could never get into it. Even when I was younger if felt too campy, for some people that is part of the enjoyment. What I do find really interesting though is the behind the scenes stuff and the lore. These videos are a great way to explore that.
Doctor Who had a problem what to do with the Silurians and the Sea Devils. When the Silurians debuted, a lot of people apparently complained that at that point in our prehistory, there was no way a being as advanced as the Silurians could develop. So, when the Silurians next appeared, the writers gave the Doctor a line mocking the term and saying that they should properly be called Eocenes. Which a) still doesn't work, historically speaking, and b) didn't stick anyway. Then there were the Sea Devils, supposedly of the same species as the Silurians, but didn't look enough like them nor did they really have the same motives. And when Doctor Who brought both back in Warriors of the Deep during the Fifth Doctor era, the writers didn't put enough thought into linking either to their original incarnations. The concept, a species that predates mankind that has a justifiable claim to rulership over the earth, is great. But I just don't think the Silurians or the Sea Devils really worked well enough in that vein to work as intended. And ultimately, I consider both a missed opportunity which may be why we haven't seen them much in recent years.
