Peru Market Machu Picchu: Silver and Ponchos 🇵🇪 

Somewhere in a paralel universe there is a lama called Jeffrey buying ponchos for his stuffed Harald.

I think the prices were fine for such a mega-tourist attraction, especially when the vendors are so sweet and humble. The dogs were beautiful and looked loved.

So far Peru 🇵🇪 series are the best👍 Loving the lady vendors, very friendly 👌🏾

Even though this town seems very tourist-y, the exceptional view and architecture makes it seem otherworldly. The view from the bridge is iconic.

Love your videos, Harald! As a Peruvian, in my hometown market I can buy that soccer jersey for 20-30 soles. 44 soles wasn’t too bad of a deal considering you were in a tourist place. But all in all, Cusco is a very beautiful place but also very expensive. I hope you’ve been drinking coca tea and chewing on the coca leaves, they help a lot with altitude sickness.

All the dogs seem friendly and unafraid of people. This tells me that the Peruvian people are not mean to dogs which automatically tells me that Peruvians are good people.

the problem with those venders is that with those price's they mostly cater to tourist and they don't own those shops so it's hard to bargain with them!

In the future it might do you well to learn the exchange rate's before shopping :)

Harald, prices will be 2x more expensive in Aguas Calientes because it’s the town of Machu Picchu (even the money exchange is different there).Prices are “high” for anywhere as for Peru itself because it’s a very touristy country not to mention its economy is pretty decent. It will be very hard to bargain there even for locals that’s why you shouldn’t go on a shopping hunt there it’s a tourist trap for anyone. They usually buy all they’re products from other small local stores. I recommend you going to San Pedro market in Cusco and around there are many local shops where you can bargain for good deals but don’t expect it to be anywhere as cheap at Asia. A lot of the material they sell are fine, such as baby alpaca, handmade, leather etc. Even for locals prices aren’t too far apart people pay for good material. The lowest I paid for that same exact Inca cola shirt was 15 soles in Cusco City (after bargaining as well) considering your in Aguas Calientes I think you did great! For the Pancho or any sweaters make sure to ask them how much baby alpaca it has, you can lower price depending on how much baby alpaca the clothing has or what it’s mixed with. If you want to buy pure baby alpaca, or vicuña ( which is the worlds best fabric better then cashmere) go to certified stores such as Kuna. Though expensive it will twice as expensive anywhere outside of Peru. Peru is one of the few countries that exports this material The demand is high in Peru just because it’s developing country does not mean everything will be cheap. This is something to definitely consider

Honestly Harald the poncho as long as its 100% alpaca, was exceptional value. I work in a store that sells jumpers with just a 5% alpaca mix for £120 so you got a bargain amigo ; ))

Geez- are people that sensitive nowadays and ignorant maybe? Do we have to change the whole Spanish speaking world because of one word`- negro, which means black. The word has been used for centuries until now where it is offensive. Who cares about using the Spanish word "negro" for black color reference. This word has always been used for decades and no one complained. It is the other "N" word which has the negative meaning and many blacks still use this word themselves, especially in movies, music, comedy, etc. The United Negro College Fund still uses this word, but unfortunately they got caught up n the political correctness web and now use UNCF but still stands the same with the original title. Bottom line, he wasn't referencing a person calling them negro, but referencing a color of a item. so why would anyone leave his station referencing a Spanish name for black?? Around 1442 when the Portuguese arrived in Southern Africa, they referenced the people there has negro meaning black. it wasn't supposed to be negative. ONLY when the other "N" word (slang) came around is when the word Negro became so horrible.

The poncho if it is 100% Alpaca is a good price but for 100 soles I think so it is mixed with sheep they do that so it is cheaper to sell .. but still is a good price for the amount you paid , The Peruvian T-shirt was SO expensive 1.` because it is a very good Copy but not Original in Lima you could get it for 25 soles and in Gamarra for less but it was fun .. nice videos ... oh and the sterling silver 950 Cross (chacana ) depends of how much is the weight .... I think so was ok ..

Harald I was watching your show and realized that a soccer which you got fir $12 dollars was over priced after you cut it down. You claimed it was only $2 dollars. When you make statements like that I think its not precise. The cost of the fabric its self is about $1.25 per yard or more and the pattern, sewing, cutting and accessories go into it . Also the marketing and the team player “Guerrero”, since hes a great player. You also have to figure in the transportation cost, and etc.. After the product is finished, it should cost well over $10, the sales lady is only making a little profit from it. So to your statement saying how its only worth 2-3 dollars is in correct.

My ex-bf was from Lima he would buy us Inca Cola and we would feast on Ceviche, Lomo saltaldo, Salchi Papas, Bistek ala Pobre, sour piscos OMG such a feast

The prices the ladies were giving were actually ok. In Peru that's what clothing will cost you. Example: shirts are $25-30 and jeans are $60/80. Jackets obviously go higher than that. And handmade alpaca clothing for 30 dollars is a fricking steal as in the US it would go for 4x as much. Like me, I think you equate it to paying that number in dollars which is not the case. That's why when I travel I try not to focus on exchange rates, or any other pre-conceived notion of prices I may have to compare it to. Instead, I focus on what locals pay for such products and base myself off that. I'm loving all the videos, but just wanted to clarify for future travellers. Don't be like me who walked off an 80 soles jean thinking I was getting ripped off as it would be akin to paying 80 dollars for a pair of jeans here in the U.S., when that was clearly not the case 😭
