AGREED. and actually have them seen by a damn psychologist before even adopting a pet just to make sure they are even mentally stable to adopt in the first place!
Petco and Petsmart are both experiencing a ton of small animal surrenders into their adoption programs right now. I know for petco they have signs up on the small animal displays saying they have animals in their adoption program who need a home with very few animals up for display
This reminds me of the idiots who bought their kids dalmatians in the 90s because of that Disney live action movie. So many were given back because dalmatians aren't good with kids.

I saw this coming.. just because there is a pandemic and you’re bored at home doesn’t mean you should invest in a dog,, they are a life long commitment, you must be dedicated to them... but obviously humans are stupid and selfish and just want momentary gratification 😒
I wouldnt use the word invest but I would say these are sorry excuses for humans and I wouldnt mind if a stray bullet hit them in the head. I adopted a "covid dog" from the picture I saw online. It was a mangy blind dog. When I got there I told them which dog I wanted. They insisted that I meet him first. I told them nope Im taking him home no matter how he is. He got in a fight with my other dog today over a chicken egg the other one stole from the chickens. I wasnt there when it started so not sure how it started but there were no injuries because blind dogs start fights often over food since they need to fight for it being a stray and blind. I got another dog two months ago that was blind from Mexico that was in a shelter for at least 8 yrs who is blind and deaf. Last week I was asked to get a dog with a large tumor on his leg....and Im back up to 12 again. Im at my limit. Most of my dogs are over 12 and so are my cats. I would not give up any animal. I dont make alot of money but enough to pay my bills. We also have pizza night every two weeks. All the dogs get all the pizza they want. I love my animals...but I work at night because I dont like humans.
These are the same type of people that dumped their dogs off at the pound at the beginning of COVID because they said dogs can carry COVID. Heartless people that aren’t attached to their pets.
I've rescued dogs left at the dog park. I take them home and find a rescue that will care for them. Wish the owner did the same. Its hot in Vegas so just dumping a dog could be death for them.
I found so many random dogs walking the street. Sometimes I'm tempted to take them home with me; but there are a few dogs who would sneak out of home sometimes. People who abandon dogs are shitty as hell!
My little stray was left in the garbage at my apartment building.People we’re trying to coax him over with food and water. All of his bones were sticking out. I came over and said come here baby. He came out and laid down in front of me. I picked him up and he started wagging his tail and licking my hand 😐. I named him Cookie like Cookie Monster .I now have three dogs ❤️
so many people are thankful for people like you. This is terrible whats happening. The pet organizations and shelters push for people to adopt during the pandemic was insane. we all knew this would happen. Ive rescued many dumped cats and a few dogs and given them to good rescue groups. but it has been a very depressing and exhausting time seeing all of the abandoned animals. All people can think about is themselves. so people like you and me wind up dealing with their horrible choices.
Heart breaking for these pets to be thrown out like their nothing ! Thank you to all of you who have compassion and love to take them in to your lives .
So sorry that happened to you but Thank you for keeping your family together, between last year and this year I had heart ache my 2 dogs died , then my cat died also. My son found me a new puppy , my animals are my everything
totally. worst part is it makes it 10 times harder for people who actually understand the responsibilities of pets (or idk, NEED pets eg. service dogs) to actually get one. me and my family have been trying for months now and all the shelters are pretty much empty
Same. Everyone wants a puppy until they don't have time for it anymore and unfortunately a lot of people adopted puppies last year. Now that everything is opening up the excuses that they don't have time. I agree that these type of people should be put on a list similar to child abusers.
Their are situations where it is okay to give up your dog. Money can be a reason if it is tight and you got a family to feed. Hell, if you don't want the dog, it won't be fair for the dog to be around someone that won't show love to it. But just straight up abandoning him, nope.

I am crushed to hear that owners of those two sweet dogs could even say "they don't like them anymore". They should be reported to law enforcement and be fined or locked up in jail.

I agree 100%. The organizations giving the dogs and cats out free or nearly free were the worst of all. They just wanted to unload the burden on themselves. They should have made it tougher on the adoptees, and shouldve put up high the fee.
@@rhi.p.9571 yes several here in California were giving animals away free. they were on the local news. Not a chance they will go out of business unfortunately. Nothing bad goes out of business here in ca. only the good stuff.......they also continuously give away free or discount the adoption fee for older cats or black cats. geniuses huh? so sad so many get into the wrong hands and suffer
What kind of pigs can do something like that? I realize that people can fall on hard times but you just don't do something like that. WTH is going on with people right now? NOT just this situation, but things are just nuts all over.
That is what I was afraid of. Everyone was adopting pets during the pandemic and now they’re on the streets. So sad! People can be cruel and selfish! So many cats and dogs abandoned in my area too.
I adopted mine during Covid but my boba will forever be with me. I had a housemate that took in 2 cats & completely disregard their care… she was working all through Covid & never had time to feed n clean their litter box… shitty ass person n I’m glad a housemate took them to the shelter because they would have had a horrible life under her care.
This happened to my dog that was left on the streets instead of taking him back to the shelter where he was from. Glad I adopted him never gonna give him up he is FAMILY!
I can't even imagine doing this to my dog. What kind of a heartless person does this? A dog is for life, not just something to entertain you when your bored.
When you take responsibility for pet, if your circumstances change, do the right thing and take them to the humane society or find them a new home. It's never acceptable to abandon a pet.
'Would you do that to your child?' Ummm, plenty of news stories recently in the US of parents abandoning their kids and murdering them, so the answer to that question is yes...and do even worse. Appealing to human nature as if we are such a loving species is futile.
Right now I live with 4 cats and a dog. I adopted my dog about seven years ago, and my cats have come to me as castoffs. Every one of them is different. I can't abandon them because as mostly abandoned animals they have a thing with that. Then, honestly, they're my buddies. I need them as much as they need me

Agree. He had one owner who became homeless then the next owner carelessly abandoned the dog, right ?? Then the dog was taken in by yet another person who found him ! Some peole are terrible and some are victims of terrible people and circumstances, I believe
a big thank you to all of those who care. I have seen so many cats abandoned too, and they are terrified. Then they become a "problem" (searching for food) to some neighbors and are not treated kindly if they even survive long enough on the street. People that do this should be banned from adopting pets (any kind) EVER AGAIN. I have been rescuing cats and dogs off the street for YEARS and it is really wearing on me now that I am getting older and not seeing the problem ever resolved is beyond exhausting. The shelters who were giving animals away should be ashamed of themselves for pushing so hard for people to "come adopt" during the pandemic, just because people were bored or lonely!
If the owners are homeless, I can understand. You can't find yourself a home. If the owners are just too busy now, fine them and ban them from ever adopting another animal.
We human don't deserve dogs 😢 These sweethearts, that loves us no matter what and loyal. But, thank God. There are good people out there that care and sees pets are like children. I WOULD NOT abandon my pets.
People just take advantage of a dogs unconditional love. There really needs to be a system in place to ban these sickos from ever being able to take in another animal.

Part of the problem is that that the non-glamorous parts of owning a dog aren’t shown very well on things like social media and also nobody really talks about it. For me the first three months of owning a puppy really needed my full attention with having to wake up multiple times to take the dog out for bathroom breaks, clean up accidents nearly every day, whining at night/biting at the cage at night, pulling and chewing on every item in the home, and whining every time the dog was left alone. It was deeply effecting my sleep, my mood, and even my work performance which nearly cost me my job. I was thinking of every way to get rid of him at that point as I felt like I had made a huge mistake. Slowly after one year things started getting better, but I realized that owning the dog wasn’t for me, and decided to let him go to a close family friend. I missed the dog at the end, and still miss him nearly every day, but I known he went to a more suited home, and I felt I made the right choice.

This is why we can't let people have animals without paying the $200 fee at least. How else do you know if they really care about it or not if you give it to him for free. stupid
That's complete bs, those fees in no way weed out bad owners and in fact keep those who would go hungry themselves before the dog from ever getting or rescuing a pet. My local shelter charges 500 to rescue a dog, money that could go for the vet bill and shots and toys and food for a year. stop thinking wealth or having money means good people. It does not mean they are good or work hard or have morals.
If someone truly was evicted from their home and couldn’t care for their dog, they should at least make an effort to find it a home or contact a shelter rather than just abandoning it for being “old”.
My neighbor wants me to surrender his dog after she has puppies. He found her wandering the street and took her in. But now they want her gone and keep the puppies.

People use and abuse. My older sister did this, she and her husband drove their dog to a quiet country area and dumped it on the side of the road. She had her eye on a new 'cute' puppy for sale. When she told me we almost came to a fistfight, especially when she ended with ' and it was a little bit hard cause he tried to run after us in the car we had to speed up'. We have been estranged for twenty years.
How nasty and callous people can be. Those dogs could have starved or been hit by cars. They need to start charging people who abandon their pets in such a manner.
I think 50% of the people who take on a dog are ill equipped for it. But to respond by abandoning them, you either have no heart or no brain. It's easy to find a responsible way to re-home your dog. Sickening.
I adopted a 7 year old Beagle mix from my local SPCA. After I got him home I discovered he had food aggression, and battled me for alpha dog position. I never gave up on Little John. I read online articles, talked to my vet, and helped him get through it. Yeah.....it took about 6 months, but we got through those obstacles. When you adopt from a shelter, God only knows their past. And NO, the shelter never advised me about either issue even with him being there 5 months with them. However, I could never take him to the dog park, he wouldn't let another dog get near me. I could never get that corrected. He was good around my neighbor's dogs and we even went on walks together. But I wasn't going to give up on him! I loved him 💙

People were lonely and depressed, but now everyone is broke or going to work. You can’t tell people to wait a week and then act surprised when they take matters into their own hands.
No empathy, not a single drop of empathy from them. When you raise a dog as a puppy, they consider you their parents. Majority of dogs have little to no survival skills.
We found our dog abandoned in the middle of no where in the country. We drove to all the neighbors nearby and they didn’t know the dog. Vet said the microchip was wiped. We’ve had him for a year this Saturday and couldn’t imagine life without him🤍
aspca??? abandoned... really?!? sounds something my ex-wife would do, she had 50 dogs and was cited a million time, finally they raided her house was deemed uninhabitable. She was under guise of a rescue shelter, selling for profit, she too abandoned dogs , unreal, people can't even drive to their local aspca ?
Whomever could abandon their own pet should NEVER own another animal, ever. Leaving them for dead in that heat. People are demons. I can't imagine the type of person that could do that (unless circumstances are dire and someone is FORCED to move where no pets are allowed or someone's homeless). It's so traumatic for those poor little angels. Breeding should be outlawed. So many pets are put down every day because of overpopulation and people won't adopt, they'd rather buy "designer" or purebreds. Makes me sick.

I’ve loved and babied for dog for ten years and still counting! From day one, she was my baby and I would never abandon her. I don’t understand how some people can be so heartless. They never deserve to have another animal in their lives again.
Here's some free advice for dogs with little teeth left after their cleaning. Get their regular pet food, put about a days worth of food in a bowl, put little water in it, let it stand overnight, and the dog food will be softer and easier for them. It's a trial and erro kinda thing, you'll figure it out in about a week.✌️❤️
The owners that dumb then should be fined , the rescues will pick up owner surrender . It’s to hot for these pets an dangerous. You all need to do a section of ur news that rescues will pick up during this pandemic.
I'm horrified at the amount of people that started dumping their pets, but I am glad that the one person at least did it at a dog park, where the dog was able to be contained & would be found by a dog lover..... As opposed to dumping him on the side of a road where he could get hit by a car, & chased or killed by wild animals.....
Thank you to all these kind hearted women and men who stepped in and stepped up to protect and care for these poor little souls. It was pretty obvious that after all the "adoptions" happened when the pandemic started that many of those same "adopters" would later give their pets back after they served their need to not be home alone. I don't understand a lot of people and their lack of empathy. It's sickening and self-absorbed, quite honestly.
I understand not being able to care for a dog due to medical or financial reasons-- but wouldn't you want to put in the work to find them the perfect new home and give them a better life? They're your family... SMH. 😓
So terrible 😥. I found a dog and he was such a cutie and he was abandoned. It was beyond sad. We took him to the vet and they contacted the owner and she waited a week to respond and finally said she wanted him back. We took him to her and then a week later she asked would we take him back.
I adopted 2 cats half a year ago. And the adoption lady told me that cats are being adopted out within days of arriving. she said she had a hutch that after the pandemic, the cats wouldn’t be wanted anymore and they’ll all come back… she was right….
