I'm an old lady, and have always loved the praying mantis! I remember keeping/feeding them as a child, but would let them go once they were able to fly (so they could go fulfill their mantis-lives and make babies.) I still marvel when I find them in my yard or garden; they are utterly perfect creatures! Just found your channel today- have subscribed!
I had a ghost mantis living on my desk for 3 months during the quarantine. She was an adult female so she didn't roam much. Since I was almost always home I was able to keep an eye on her. I hand fed her and would give a little mist puddle for her every once in a while. She also liked beer can condensation haha.
@@THECALEDONIANLAIR I subbed also. I'm too easily spooked by insects and I'd worry I'd suddenly realize there's a 'bug" on my hand and send it flying. Also, I have a cat and I know what horrors she inflicts on them. But they're fascinating and I can't get my friends to get one, so RU-vid vicarious pets it is.
thanks for this video, found one outside and brought him/her in a day ago, I have 100s of houseplants in every room, hope he/she makes it, this was helpful!
Yes your mantis is male...a lot skinnier than our fat female. Ours lives on our huge tangled orchid cactus...lots of "arms" to climb and sleep upside down. We spray our plants down a long with her. She enjoys this. We where told not to catch outdoor grasshoppers for because of parasites...we buy giant mill worms. But she was fine for the summer what we caught in our field. It's fall snow in Montana now. We did name her Vera. She seems happy-go-lucky type of bug. I enjoyed your video. Sounds like 3 years ago during covid. I'm glad you had your praying mantis for your spirit during that time. Thank you 😊
Does he always stay on the plants? Because I have 3 big palm trees all in separate locations if I got one I would let him just roam on them free and get wooden crescent 🪵 to put on top of the dirt piles of the plants for him to roam on my biggest c concern would be him staying on the plants. I wouldn’t want to accidentally step on him because he left the plants
You have such a soothing way of speaking. I’m attempting to convince my partner to let me bring a mantis into the house for the plants. I think your video may have helped? Time will tell!
youre one of my fave mantis-tubers. last Christmas my Giant African got to spend most of Christmas in the Christmas tree! it was very nice for her and she lived several months after Peace
Your vids are so pleasant to watch, especially with the relaxing music in the background. I hope you return more to RU-vid with more bug content! I also had a question about your previous upload, but I figured it would be buried in the comments of that video since it blew up a lot so I wanted to ask it here. For your orchid mantises, do you use a heat lamp or some other kind of heat producing thing to keep them warm and help with humidity? I'm planning on using glass jars for orchids like you did, so I'm wondering if heat lamps are the way to go or if theres something else to use.
Yeah buddy. I just thought can you do that? Then I found your video. I’m going to try it. My wife has succulents and I just brought a young Moringa tree in for the winter. We will see what happens.
Just found one living on one of more than 70 houseplants. Trying to decide whether to keep him or take him outside. I live in the Midwest. Found a tiny baby last night and I did set him on one of plants in the other room. The one I found today is the size of yours. Except larger abdomen so I think it’s a female. It’s light brown stick colored. Any insights and advice would be appreciated. I’m in no rush to do anything and may just name her.

aye im 16 and 2 years ago when i was 15 and kept my first mantis, i just told my mom that they don't smell, their diet is really easy, and that they will only live for around a year so that theyre wasn't a huge commitment towards them. she agreed and i raised my mantis till adulthood :)
