Technically it got to No 4 in the UK but was somewhat hidden away as although it was officially part of a double A sided single, it was the other track (their cover of the U2 song Where the Streets Have No Name) that got most of the radio airplay. Somewhat frustratingly this version has never surfaced on any of their compilation albums (Discography, PopArt, Ultimate)meaning it is really difficult to get hold of. It's actually easier to get hold of Bet She's Not Your Girlfriend which was an extra track on the 12" as that was included on their first B-Side collection Alternative. Perhaps this track should have been on there too. There was another different version of this song on the 12" Remix single, This effectively came in two parts the Momo and Ragga Zone mixes. These are Reggae/.Ragga tinged and well worth checking out.
Brothers In Rhythm if I remember correctly. Dave Seaman, Steve Anderson and Alan Bremner. They did additional production and remix on a lot of early 90's PSB singles - including Go West.
this is the absolute best song ever from Pet Shop Boys. so soothing, phenomenally mixed, and just all around artistry and high class musicians from the beginning!
I love all the music of Pet Shop Boys, but for me for sure this is the best of all, all the elements fit perfectly, it is a real work of art that is impossible to listen without wanting to be repeating the track several times, not to mention that it takes me to the memories of my childhood when I was only 10 years old...good times...😎🤘🍺
A young Al Stewart maybe.... but still unique. Neil's voice is best when it is deadpan like in "DJ Culture" or else reaching a chilling high note like in "Before".
Excellent lyrics and Chris dancing (and not just dancing but making others also dance to his rhythm) are definitely the hallmarks of this fabulous classic and immortal song. As sweet now in 2022 as it was when it was released in my teens. 👍💋💐💐💋👍

My dad's friend gave us several LaserDiscs, including Queen's "Greatest Flix II" and PSB's "Videography...". That was like 5 to 10 years ago, but we've always had vintage A/V equipment, including a LD player. I watched the whole thing, including this great track, and not only met PSB, but made myself a fan of them. Thanks, Toño!
This is why PSB are the greatest Dance Act of all time (along with Madonna, Donna Summer and Janet Jackson): As emotional and soft this sounds, it has extremely high disco potential.
The song was on constant MTV rotation and it was a Top 5 hit in the UK and Ireland - in the USA, it was less successful, hitting the Top 20 on Billboard's Dance/Club Play Chart but only cracking Billboard Hot 100 (#93). One of my '90s alternative dance/new jack swing favourites!
In 1991 I had a VHS-tape by PTB called "Promotion" and on that tape there was this musicvideo. I can`t remember how often I watched it, but it was countless times. I love this song even today and it`s one of the highlights on Behaviour-album.

I am not sure why this isn't included in ANY of the PSB official singles collections albums, like Pop Art, or Smash...
