As we wrap up our Illmatic XX celebrations, we chatted with Pete Rock about making one of the album's most celebrated cuts, "The World Is Yours" on The Source TV.
Nas said on " time is illmatic" - I never thought about career, if I die this is my story hope someone can hear it , after illmatic the doors were open for new artist to blow up ( big , Wu solo , az , Jay-Z etc ) one of the reasons best album of all time , made hip hop global and serious music , album was real PJs life , Nas one of the few who left that life and didn't still rap about it , like most do still stuck in PJs So how can someone ask make part 2 ? Haters and jealousy, they thought he can't do it , but he did with magic
Pete is right , you can't make illmatic part 2 on the same themes subjects it will downgrade illmatic, Nas had to change to prove he can adapt evolve as an artist pushing him self , He created Nas esco flow new style of rapping so new rappers can't copy that he the first , so many rappers were born or given Chance cause of illmatic he had to protect his legacy
4:17 ... and the thing is .... Give me, is not theirs. The melody and the and the words of the hook are from a band called I-level. Give me was a hit in 1982. Love The world is yours. And even didn't know that Pete did the beat!
