As we close out the old year of 2020…which we all, I believe, will be more than happy to put behind us…I thought it would be fun to celebrate New Year’s Eve in a festive way. To ring in the New Year, here are some of the great tenors of the past singing favorite melodies from the operettas of old Vienna.
Here, German tenor Peter Anders (1891-1948) and Finnish soprano Aulikki Rautawaara (1906-1990) join voices for the duet “Sieh, dort den kleinen Pavillon” from Franz Lehár’s Die Lustige Witwe. This recording was made in Berlin for the Telefunken label on May 5, 1942.
