That's also the beat he used as the opening to his drum solo on 100,000 Years off of Alive! It's cool that he was able to incorporate it into a song. I've seen cover bands that mess it up all of the time by just playing a simple 4-4 beat.
THIS song on the THE KISS DOUBLE PLATINUM ALBUM is what got me into playing the drumset. Now, years later after touring Europe, Mexico, and The United States with a bunch of rock bands… Played in/on commercials for The Super Bowl, Toyota, Manolo Blahnik , and all the fun endorsements and the ladies (lol)… I have to say I owe it all to this man right here. Thank you for this upload. 🙏🏻
aaaa... A space boogie. That's the name of the fast shuffle. And on the KISS album ALIVE II, he killed that drumgroove! On the song Love Gun, he plays the same beat, only in a mid-tempo. I love to play that groove.
Why does every PC video bring out the haters? The guy is a recovering drug addict who is 76 years old, and has carpel tunnel. He is not practicing every day and trying to start a band. He’s semi-retired and doing some events to make a little money and meet his fans. Lighten up. I’m a drummer of 40 years and I love his performance on the Alive album. Driving rock beats with a bit of swing, very aggressive to match the music. Perfect for that band at that time. If you like that music, PC is a hero, if you don’t OK, move on. I also like Neil Peart, Bill Ward, Alex Van Halen, and bunch more rock drummers. None “better” than the others, all really cool stuff to me. I don’t comment on vids of bands I don’t care for and shot on them, I just move along and don’t click on those vids-
They're probably irritated they don't have 5 million in the bank like he does and keeps adding more with each appearance or drum clinic he gives. Hell of a salary for a so called sssshhhhheeaty drummer.
The main problem is not his age, the problem is that, being objective, he's is an average drummer who was lucky enough to be in a very succsesfull band! I am not telling you he's a bad drummer......he's just an average drummer! (I am a drummer and i know what i 'm talking 'bout, and no.....i got no envy of his succsess, i'm glad that a drummer like him make a wealthy life doing what he loves, is gratifying)
@@DarioDNA1 People say the same thing about Kirk Hammett and Lars Ulrich and it's bullshit - each of these musicians has a unique distinct style and fit perfectly in their respective bands, who wouldn't have been the same without them, and that's more important than having a ton of chops and being an overly-technical shredder.
KISS early years played really heavy, yet Peter still got his cowbell in a lot of songs. He had a heavy jazz influence. It was great and still it’s great!!
I have heard ZERO jazz on his mediocre beats. Everyone always says he has a Jazz background but stupid beats like this are what every kid plays when they first learn drums with no lessons.
@@erockscott1184 Apparently you don't know much about jazz drumming or drumming in general. The syncopated beat he plays here is jazzy, and a lot of stuff he plays on the snare and hi-hats in other songs is as well. Standard hard rock beats are straight-ahead 4/4, like Phil Rudd of AC/DC and Tommy Lee of Motley Crue, for example. How often have you heard them do a syncopated beat like this? That would be never. Just because it's not some crazy progressive jazz fusion beat in a 12/8 time signature or whatever doesn't mean that it's not jazzy.
@@erockscott1184 Also, most drum teachers usually teach a basic 4/4 to beginner students, not syncopated beats like this which are more advanced. So I highly doubt that many kids who haven't had lessons would come up with such beats.
@@erockscott1184 You're the troll, talking trash and trying to undermine a legendary drummer just because he doesn't have Neil Peart-level chops. Music is about more than chops and technique - it's about feel, groove, dynamics, musical sensibility (the ability to recognize and play what best fits a given song) and so on, and Peter has all of that, and he's also a great singer as well.
This could be used as a beat for a hundred thousand years, ... But it is clearly being played by peter at the tempo of Detroit rock city. , This is held while Ace (or tommy) would play that long melodic lead guitar solo.. bottom line is....PETER CRISS ON THE M.F. DRUMS!!! coolest cat to ever pick up a pair of sticks.
Peter is in his late 70's (76 or 77 years old), so give the guy a break. He is statistically around the very end of his life and he did a lot of alcohol and drugs back in the day. Most people can't remember the grocery list they need after walking from their car across the Wal-Mart parking lot if they are even still around at this age. If you even live to be this old....what will you be like?!!?
Caravello version had double bass roofs . What is funny is Mechanix / Four horsemen by metallica have a similar riff and the same double bass roof behind the riff that Eric carr was doing
Peter's skills declined after he stopped caring about the art and science of drumming; after he forgot about that young man who years earlier, posted in the local paper, "Drummer, Do anything to make it!" The end of the road for him came around 1980 when sadly, he failed his own audition with his own band. He was so bad in fact, that he was released immediately by unanimous vote of Gene, Paul, and even his buddy, Ace! With not enough skills to play on Unmasked, Kiss replaced him with Anton Fig, but let him appear on the album cover for the last time. I liked Peter a lot as an early Kiss fan, but I have little tolerance for musicians who stop caring about the fans and their craft so they can drown in excesses of every kind.
Right on. I like Peter Criss. As a drummer, he just seemed to stop. For perspective, high school students played drums in 1980, maybe not better, but with more passion and variety than Pete. And had a sincere desire to learn, grow, challenge themselves. A band is only as strong as it's weakest member. I think it must have been gut wrenching to let him go. But they had to..twice. Eric Singer is really rock solid.
@@jamesbarnett2483, not casting stones. I attended the Kiss Alive II Tour and sat front row (in from of Gene) wearing Peter Criss makeup!!! I was a huge Kiss fan and as a drummer, Peter was my favorite drummer. But Peter got rusty and listless because he did not build upon the basics, which means he simply stopped growing as a drummer. The exceptional drummers practice their craft for hours a day because they love it. Peter evidently stopped loving drums, which is fine for him but to hold him up as an awesome, great drummer is incorrect. This is what fans do, not drummers who know better. peace
Some people really don’t enjoy playing drums at heart. I had a student who had the ability to play drums and he could really play well if he wanted to but he hated it and would rather play video games and other things. So his playing just felt more like a robot and no feeling because he just wasn’t into it.
He isn't in the top 50"s as far as drummers go but he doesn't ssssshhhheeeea his money away anymore and his net worth is 5 million. He'll never want for nothing. How many here can truthfully brag they have 5 million dollars in their bank accounts? Remember, talk is cheap and anyone can be a damn liar.
Versatile (in music) means multiskilled and adaptable to many genres. Peter is neither. He knows maybe five drum beats and he uses the same basic fills for many songs. Peter was at his best on Kiss Alive!, in 1975 (that's 47 years ago!). Since then, he's been swinging like a rusty gate.
@@richardtorymacdonald578 I'm sure that your drumming is much more versatile and impressive, which is why you're so much more well-known and respected than Peter.
Aaaaaaaaaaargh! These brain washed tone deff idiots. HE FUCKING SUCKS! No matter how many platinum records he has. Can you not hear? Close your eyes and LISTEN. It’s crap. Many 12 year old beginners play better than this. What’s wrong with people?
Apparently he did more. It sure sounded like he did on Alive where it went down in real time. Not to mention the fact that this so called ssssshhhheeeeaty drummer is worth 5 million and keeps adding more with each appearance or drum clinic. Not bad for so called sub par performance.
Drummer willin toe do anything toe make IT! I Will Tell you not to tell me how i play my drumkid cause l cant no really l cant !!! Anything accept learning more ,Paul and gene ; hé played and we hearing the sound wauw good¡¡¿¿?¿¿ Die they know ??? Where they drunk of stupide oh Jesus Christ my lord
@@ognir66 I’m a professional drummer in Las Vegas. I teach students. Stay in your lane. Criss is a weak drummer, kinda like the drummer for the monkey’s, all show and no go. Your a fan ( fanatic) of the band and are not qualified to judge drummers pal.
@@augustocarvalho7357 you can tell you don't know a thing about music, playing, or the fact that he was just plain damn lucky...he is subpar..drummers in your area would blow him away.
KISS came out at the right time! The mid 1970s defined loud music (KISS was loud), loud theatrics snd loud gimmicks (KISS had loud gimmicks and loud theatrics). Their demise was in their biggest hit (“Beth”) which was a lame tear jerker. And their venture into Disco with “Calling Doctor Love” marked the beginning of the end. Their reunion was a big mistake. They should’ve stayed retired and let us remember them as we remembered them in the 1970s.
First of all, that snare sounds like horseshit. Second, that is 100,000 years drum solo stuff. Pete really shouldn't sit down at the kit anymore. It's gone. He'll be better remembered for when he had chops if he doesn't show us that he has lost them
