Peter Cushing was one of those actors who wasn't just liked. He was truly loved! That doesn't apply to a lot of them. Christopher Lee paid him the ultimate compliment, by saying the only reason Peter Cushing died was because he was too good for the world. That statement speaks volumes! Peter Cushing genuinely appreciated his fans. A class act.
In 1982, Peter was diagnosed with Terminal Cancer and was initially given a prognosis of six Months. He lived for another 12 Years and never lost his wit and charm. He never got over loosing his wife in 1971 but you would never guess it from how he always conducted himself both in public and private. Peter Cushing truly is a hero we could all look up to for inspiration. His work is timeless and his outlook on life is inspirational. He lived a full life, he defied the odds, he achieved hs dream, there has never been a bad word spoken about him by anyone, his films rock and he never changed 💕
Totally agree a true gentleman and a kind caring gentleman True old class actor who definitely deserved a knighthood I say shame on the powers at the time !
Perhaps he refused and was gracious enough not to make a song about it? I say this without any bile. I am not trying to be contrary in the comments. It is just that not every British person feels the need to belong to all of it's institutions. In fact, some are appalled by their greed and hypocrisy. Best wishes to you. 👍🇬🇧
He lived a few doors down from my grandmother and they were friends. I met him once but I was very young so I’m very interested to hear him now. A very kind and interesting man.
Peter Cushing has to be one of the very nicest people in the film industry , as for the knighthood , from what iv'e seen of them they are given to the most unworthy people imaginable .
You probably dont give a shit but does anyone know a method to log back into an instagram account? I somehow forgot my login password. I would love any tricks you can offer me!
Very much associated with the horror films, but when he was in them he was always riveting. A great actor and wonderful person. He loved his wife dearly. The british film industry was all the better for having his presence.
Cushing played so many roles but my favourites have to be as sir palamedes in the 1954 'black knight' and as the evil sinister sheriff in 'the sword of sherwood forest' 1960.
This is a wonderful interview. Thank you for posting it. I initially only knew of Peter Cushing from Star Wars, which came out when I was a child, but my father introduced me to his Dr. Frankenstein, and I wound up enjoying every role he played throughout his illustrious career. And this shows what a great interview he is.
Thank you so much for uploading. Really great to see an interview with Nicholas Rowe and very rare to find. Though he was quite young here. I like him very much, he's a great actor. I wish there would have been a lot more movies with him in the main role.
Second that! Nicholas is massively underrated. I heard he was considered for the 12th Doctor, and although I loved Peter Capaldi in the role, I would have loved to see Nicholas playing a main character. He narrated a few audiobooks though, if you'd like to hear more of his honey voice. Waiting for Anya is a beautiful story and he reads it superbly.
@@easternlights3155 He gave quite an interesting performance as George Washington in History Channel 3-part docudrama "Washington" (2020). Made me cry in the end.
@@olenashon300 Oh yes, I saw that one. The performance was historical drama movie worthy, in my opinion. You don't usually get ones that good in documentaries.
@@easternlights3155 I agree! At first I was surprised by the choice of the actor for the part (I saw many Washingtons on screen and have some favourites) and wondered what Nicholas Rowe would be. But I wasn't disappointed. He was great as young Washington, as General and as President.
Before Star Wars, Guinness was mostly known for Serious Movies like Bridge on the River Kwai. Before Star Wars, Cushing was mostly known for horror movies; some of them (Corruption, Vampire Lovers, etc) pretty sleazy. I think he rightly saw Star Wars as a step up in the world.
@@hcu4359Yeah, that's right, he had no pretensions about being "A Thespian". Guinness just whined so much about it, despite becoming VERY wealthy. He made more money from Star Wars than all of his Serious Films combined, indeed his entire career combined beforehand. And he still starred in Serious Films afterwards.
4:59 - 5:08 So your approximately 183cm =6'0" 12-stone-6lbs =174lbs At your heaviest you was probably 13-stone-8lbs BMI as of 1986 (23.3) and he's 151lbs away from the bad zone Also both men are apparently the same height 183cm =6'0"
The idea of Peter Cushing being anywhere near 180-190 lbs at any point in his life is kind of mind-boggling. He was already so gosh-darned thin in his Hollywood bit parts in the late thirties and early forties and in that mid-fifties tv version of 1984 which is his earliest surviving lead role. He can't have weighed more than 160 or thereabouts when he got into horror films.
