RE: PAUSING, EXPRESSIONS & AIR-INSTRUMENTS:
Please be mindful that we will pause (we prefer to react in the moment & to avoid copyright strike), we will react with enthusiasm, smiles, tears, conversation, exchanged looks and air-instruments. We are expressive by nature and are truly very quirky in every sense of the word. This is who we are and this is what we’ve got to offer. We understand it may not be for everyone, but here's to hoping you all enjoy and we absolutely love positive comments and feedback.

Marc Johnson was the final bassist that Bill Evans recorded with. He was the book end to Scott LaFaro's premature demise. If you are interested in going deep into jazz please consider Bill Evans Sunday at the Village Vanguard.

First time with Marc Johnson but I know Erskine and Abercrombie well, both masters of the respective instruments, and as always at the top of their game. I love Timeless with Hammer and Dejohnette, and all of the 'Gateway' recordings. Cutting edge stuff. Thanks for posting, Nick, and props to your friend for alerting you to it. RIP John.

Peter Erskine started with the Stan Kenton Big Band . Saw them many times , and Peter was as approachable as they get . His career reads as Top Shelf . Mark 's wife is the quintessential Samba Pianist from Brazil (Eliane Elias) . They've toured/recorded some of the most touching music this side of heaven . The late John Abercrombie was in rarified air ...such feel and nuance . The tone was impeccable .

Peter Erskine was a brilliant drummer in Weather Report (with Jaco Pastorius, bassist).

I fell in love with Abercrombie back in the 70's,his work with Ralph Towner(SARGASSO SEA),Jan Hammer (TIMELESS)and the brilliant self titled (ABERCROMBIE QUARTET)not to mention all his other great work..listen to "red and orange" from timeless..mind blowing..I think he is a top 15 guitarist..a giant who is greatly missed..but what a legacy..much love and respect to you Nick...Kent.

WOW , had heard of Peter Erskine and also some of the older Weather Report songs, but this was really awesome. The other guys were good, too 😆

Abercrombie also played in a trio with Jack DeJohnette (drums) and Dave Holland (bass)-, called Gateway. they did three records (iirc) on ECM, the third after a gap in time, called Homecoming being my favorite, But that trio was madly beautiful and madly intense. (I can draw a lot of lines from all three of these players to other contexts, but... RG did that in a basic way and I'm not up for typing a book, or even full encyclopedia entry, here, lol). GREAT choice again, RG.

Yep, Gateway Trio were just stunning Holland is probably technically the best bass player alive, De Johnette is in with a shot as best drummer and the much missed John will always rank as one of the greatest guitarists who ever lived.

@@Databhoy Once getting in to that rarefied air, I can't buy into ranking single "greatest" and such, but definitely Holland and DeJohnette are in that group where I can't name anyone better, or anyone who means more to me as a listener over the decades....

Erskine is a monster. He played with Steely Dan in 1993-1995 on and off.

They did a trio album that I listen to all the time. Also Marc Johnson recorded a great album with Pat Metheny/Bill frisell called the sound of summer running you should check out.

Hi Nick, awesome you've done this. This three have a great selftitled live recording on ECM which is one of my favorite guitar trios for years. I highly recommend it! I can not join your patreon, but I'd love to suggest to look up something by Steve Tibbetts. He is also an ECM artist, so you can not use studio versions, but there are some live performances on youtube. I recommend the tracks "Test" and "Walking" for a first touch. I'm pretty sure you will enjoy his very unique style of music and playing. I realy think he is one of these rare artists whose work will last, even if only few people noticed it for a long time. Greetings from Germany! #nicknlexrequest

The video didn't say, but the same personnel put this song out on an album in 1989. I always liked those gtr. synth harmonized chords. I just wish they were higher in the mix, but it is a drum channel. I saw him once and he had one of those weird looking Roland G-707 models with the stabilizer bar that runs from the instrument's body to the head stock. But it sounded good.

Check out the original version from John's album Getting There from 1988. Michael Brecker played tenor saxophone on the original track.

Pat Metheny plays that guitar at times and has a trumpet like synth sound. Erskine has appeared on at least one of Di Meola's albums (Pursuit of a Radical Rhapsody).

Hi Nick. I'm assuming, based on what I read over at your buymeacoffee link, that Alexa is still having back problems. I don't know what she's doing for her back, but I hope you'll look into Wim Hof. Everyone should practice the Wim Hof Method. Everyone. Wim is the real deal. His method is so effective, that they literally had to change their science text books, because he proved that what science always assumed was impossible, is possible; namely, that we can't control our autonomic nervous system. Wim proved we can. Wim has not gotten sick one day in over 40 years now. Since I started practicing his method, I almost never get sick anymore. I feel younger and more vibrant too. I know Wim can heal Alexa's back. Hope you guys both try it out. You'll "love" the ice baths : )

I’m gonna go ahead and unsubscribe Nik, you’ve kinda veered away from the more mainstream reactions I so enjoyed and your in danger of becoming quite insular and parochial, so it’s time for me to find other areas to interest me . Good luck to you both and I wish you only good things for the future . 👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

So instead of opening your mind to new music, or at the very least just ignoring reactions you don't jive with, you'd rather unsubscribe? It's my opinion that reactions should be a way to open new people to music they haven't heard. What is your opinion of a reaction channel's purpose?

@@mrtyreus0 yes… it’s just not for me , they are growing in a different direction from what I first came across, and that’s great , that’s organic… it’s just not that interesting for me anymore , that’s my opinion and choice .. I’ve wished them well .. nothing to see here 👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

I met Marc Johnston once and we started talking about John Abercrombie - because I still have a Scottish accent despite 40 years in the US he told me that John Abercrombie is/was fanatical about his Scottish roots. I only mention this because I saw your Scottish flag. Sorry that you feel you want to move away from this channel - I feel it is now starting to get really interesting.
