Thankyou Teez ! This was Peter Gabriel,s first Solo Top Ten hit in the UK from 1980 ! Kate Bush provides the backing vocals on this song . Both are Unique Dynamic talented individuals who are on their own level as musical artists. 🔥👌 Song lyrics are Cryptic on first listen and video of Olympics footage/ War images is quite bizarre but the message is more obvious ongoing with The Games of War being a lot of Bravado and Flag waving such as the games children play ! 🤔

What the backups are singing are "Jeux sans frontieres" which is french for Games without Frontiers. Basically an anti-war song. It's relating it to kids playing silly games, kids have flags, other kids help them. Basically war with leaders & generals playing with their own armies and waving their flags. The line "Adolf builds a bonfire, Enrico plays with it" is directly talking about Adolf Hitler starting the war and Mussolini joining in. It's early Peter Gabriel, there was always alot going on in the music and always sounded differnet

I remember when I was fifteen-years-old and loaning this album to a friend of mine. When she gave it back to me she said she liked this song, thinking it said: 'She's so funky, yeah.' There were no lyrics in the cassette so I assumed she was right. It was 1987 and there was no Internet we could use to just look up lyrics back then. C'est la vie.

The backing vocal singing "Jeux sans Frontieres" is the great Kate Bush. "Solsbury Hill" is my personal life soundtrack. Also, "Biko" and "Here Comes the Flood" (with Robert Fripp) are worthy of a reaction.

The choir sings: "Jeux sans Frontieres" which is french for "Games without frontiers" - It was a TV show in Europe between Germany, the UK, France, Belgium, The Netherlands< … in wich young people from these countries fought/played in a games/playful sports environment in order for these countries to win. Like Olympics, but sillier. Peter compared it with war (without tears)

Peter Gabriel was the original lead singer of the band Genesis. Then he went solo. That's when Phil Collins, Genesis' drummer, took over as lead singer (and drummer) for Genesis. Genesis, Phil Collins and, Peter Gabriel are all awesome rabbit holes to go down. ❤️

He’s a genius. As close as we have to a male Kate Bush (who provides backing vocals on this track). After he left Genesis his solo work was really diverse. His debut album contains classics like Solsbury Hill and Here Comes The Flood. His second album didn’t have any big hits but songs like DIY and On The Air are still excellent. This third album had some more great songs like I Don’t Remember and Not One Of Us. Then he really started experimenting with rhythms from around the world and his fourth album contains amazing songs like Rhythm Of The Heat and Kiss Of Life. All 4 albums are called Peter Gabriel. His 5th album gave him worldwide commercial success. Annoyed that his record company made him give it a different title he gave it the shortest non-title he could think of, “So”. I can’t remember if you’ve reacted to Sledgehammer or Red Rain but they’re just two of the great songs from that album. He’s made 2 more studio albums, Us and Up as well as numerous instrumental albums and songs for soundtracks. But his own studio work is worth checking out across all his albums. This is a great choice. Kate Bush is singing the French version of the title “Jeux Sans Frontieres”.

Incredible singer! I love his "Shock the Monkey", "Solsbiry Hill", and " Book of love". This song about children playing war games and that mindset continues.... adults 'playing' at war,, not understanding the consequences then or now. Great reaction!

This song was inspired by a British TV game called “It’s a Knockout” where teams would compete in silly goofy games. In the ‘60s, French President General de Gaulle thought it would be a good idea to spread the game throughout Europe on the national TV channels, in order to promote peace. But of course under the guise of funa and games, it was really serious competition bringing the old comflicts back instead of helping forget about them. The backing singer (Kate Bush) sings “Jeux Sans Frontieres”, which is the translation of “Games Without Frontiers”, the name of this Europe-wide TV show.

I always thought the voice was saying "she's so popular" but no, it is French (Jeux sans frontières) for 'games without frontiers'. He is protesting using the Olympics as some perverted cold war game and our feigned ignorance! Gabriel is against the duplicity of politicians using popular events to further questionable 'causes'. Using innocent people for their 'games' to get ahead. Gabriel is way abstract and LOVES metaphors. Check out his work in early Genesis. A world to explore!

I love this channel. I always took this song as bad ass. Like hard core whistle toot toot on how the world is run by acid dropping CIA rejects. That Adolf Rudolph reference ain't no reindeer red nose. The commies and the blue shoe boys with the ideal's faked. Who knew Pablo Escobar haired all the Thompson Gunners and played to win. All the baboons pissed on by goons were cold calculated collator damage. Rule .303 what would Peter Gabriel know about games. I showed my beloved how Thompson Gunners got paid. On demand Swiss Franks gold by the troy weight. All you had to do was toss two to costumes and they shit bricks over the Swiss mercenary call card of an equal point cross. They knew who the bank was what wonted secrets. Gold Silver Lead and Blood are the highest value denomonation in the Universe. The rest is wormwood. I found two in my grip bag with the pen I pinched form the Marriott Bogota. Forgot all about them. My fine woman had them appraised. They are worth two fold spot gold price, some rare mint mark on the back. So it felt to me like GOD tossed me a bone. The forgotten bought a lot of long lost woman's touch to bring peace and prosperity. Wars need tears so there would be less of them. I asked Alisa how she felt about biting my initials on her happy ass. Like the mint mark at least twice double times ten in value to me. Not having it, she is to smart for me.

Don't bother, dude. I've been listening to this since it dropped and I still haven't figured it out. Everyone has a theory, though, and many people will tell you they know. Maybe they do, maybe they don't. Some of it's spoken in French.
