I didn't know this song and that he did this, way back in 1987 when I saw him at the Werchter festival. I was as usual up front, he came right in our direction and before I knew it he was in our hands, unforgettable moment :-)

I saw this tour in 87 in Oakland CA our crowd was a little more respectful of his clothing... He came back to the stage for 9 encore songs. Yes NINE!!!!! We were too exhausted from cheering to ask for more. Absolutely the perfect performance.

When I saw this at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center, he went all the way to the back of the room and back and it did not appear that anyone did anything untoward him, his clothes were intact, and the part went on for a *long* time. I guess people in NY behave better than people in Philadelphia.
Me too. The best mass I ever attended. The ultimate spiritual experience. Whenever I listen to this album it brings tears to my eyes. The charge of emotion is overwhelming.
Pete was one of the first with the balls to do this , dating back to his 1982-83 shows which I saw. Correct me if I'm wrong, but who else was doing it before that?

Saw a Crapload of shows on this tour never being farther back than 6 rows, his trips into the audience saw him return ripped apart or shredded, footwear gone, you name it, the guy in the blue shirt & others in the up front area were spotters/security & out there for his safety which did see problems from time to time
I notice that the arena security is _very_ present in the front of the crowd for this particular performance of the song, whereas at the Athens show, they remained on the stage. Philadelphia is known as a tough town, I suppose they didn't want to take any chances.
