Back then, there was rumors that he was supposed to appear in more scenes/episodes, but he was so sick he couldn't make it. That's why S1 feels kinda abrupt. Great actor, we should all be grateful, he was in so much pain, and still portrayed a character that makes us smile.

true but you shouldn't view college as something intangible either. you have to view it as a product because thats what it is on the other end. they literally are selling you a product. so if its alike buying a car. well you can buy a cadillac(ivy league) but do most people need that? you could buy an mercedes but can you afford that (repairs/ bad degree)? as long as you know what your buying its ok. but that wasnt what was discussed when i went to college. granted it worked out for me so im not against it, just being aware.

@@tiagomoraes1510 there’s nothing you can’t learn outside of school. You are just paying for a paper that says you know it enough to take a test. This is coming from a guy that dropped out and no trains and oversees people that are college graduates. Difference is I’m all self taught with no debt with more knowledge in the field than the college grads. Higher education is a waste if you are a person that is motivated to teach yourself new skills.

to be perfectly honest, depending on some degrees, college can be completely useless. I have a diploma in psychology and now a degree in psychology and I went to a top 20 university in the world (NTU) and I learned more in my diploma than I ever did in my degree. My college "thesis" got an A when it would have at most scored me a B in my diploma. College taught me absolutely jack shit and I only went because my diploma would not afford me a job and I needed the degree. I know a bunch of people from engineering and business who said the same. I don't know about other fields, but at least for these few, going to college was just a giant time and money sink where 90% of the professors come in, read from slides in a horrible foreign accent that we don't understand, and leave. To me the reason why people fail if they drop out of college (besides the ones who actually aren't good at their respective fields) is because most companies wouldn't give them a chance if they didn't have that nifty piece of paper that said that they burned 4 years of their life and around 20k (depending on their country) on a subject. The fact that we have normalised the need for a degree in order to get a job is ridiculous. My sister is currently doing a degree in linguistics and drowning in student debts just because without a degree, most white collar jobs wouldn't even give her a second look. I'm working talent acquisitions in a large e-commerce company and resumes without a degree would be thrown away instantly even if they have 10++ years of experience in their field. However, resumes with a degree would at least warrant a look, even if its not in the respective field. How stupid is that?

@@teamtoken You are so wrong in so many ways I have to assume you never been to college or slept on all of the lectures. You can easily calculate impact on the economy of a country, region or even a town, in dollars, which is brought or taken by a college. You can absolutely trivially do that on a scale of a household. Earnings of a family with one graduate, two or none. You can easily compare the dollar value of an inept but highly praised college graduate against an illiterate but skilled and experienced craftsman as an employer. So you easily can put dollar value on knowledge(have you been to a job interview? there is a mandatory part where you together with an employer put a very exact dollar value on your knowledge) and most valuable knowledge rarely comes from college, because it is retarded by at least the time it takes to formulate the unit of knowledge into a course, approve it and train professors to teach it. That's at least 5 years of a delay. And in tech 5 years is very dead. There is very little value in a lot of 5 year old knowledge in IT.

@@NGC1433 Total rubbish There’s no substitute for knowledge, no matter where it comes from. Experience is valuable, theoretical knowledge is valuable, soft skills are valuable, hard skills are valuable. Whether it’s college or not doesn’t matter. The real skill is being able to blend theory with practice. In my line of work (Engineering) there are many brilliant folks I’ve come across with no degree. However for difficult, non intuitive problems for which there are no simple solutions, the kinds of people who can do it with no advanced degree are rare as hens teeth, and there are reasons for that.

I like how unrealistic it is. In all my years I have seen very few real professors behave like that and they are usually just nutjobs in general. The truth is, college is about learning baseline skills/knowledge and professors are researchers who innovate rather than apply. Now students who don't learn to apply their knowledge and skills that are built in college don't do as well but that is why all students should combine disciplines to create applicable skill sets that are useful in their industries. Some people might not need college but statistically speaking even amongst the most successful people there are more college graduates than dropouts. There is a reason engineering degree holders are the most prevalent among billionaires, engineers have a very good balance of knowledge building classes and classes that teach application skills and innovation.

0:36 "They all dropped out of college" Yeah... and the vast majority of programmers and other white collar workers that they would go on to hire DID go to college. I suppose if you drop out, you have a one in a million chance of starting your own business and getting rich, but that doesn't scale for the rest of the population. If you go to college or a trade school for something not stupid, your chances of being stable financially are realistically 7 in 10 or better, which is pretty good.

Exactly, he got into Hooli(before leaving Pied Piper and being promoted to win the suit) and was a pretty good programmer. Just because he wasn't the best in the group at any given task they started to picture him like an absolute idiot. Gilfoyle was a genius with hardware and machine learning, Dinesh a great programmer and Richard also a genius programmer.

Over the course of the season I decided Peter was telling people to drop out of college because he watched the caliber of graduates entering competition with him steadily increasing, and wanted to foment a social movement that stemmed that flow.

People like Peter usually want others to go and study in colleges, they will even pay you to complete higher degrees, this will insure them a lot of future employees, the worst thing can happen to them if everyone decided to be an entrepreneur and drop out of college
@ianh1504
@ianh1504 6 лет назад
Mohammad Khaled they want their employees to go study at college, not some rando. Then his employees are educated and have an advantage in business dealings with dropouts
@mohammadkhaled3822

They always want new employees, all big companies never stop hiring because of the new positions and the people leaving to other companies, so the more graduated students the better for them
@ianh1504

Mohammad Khaled If Peter has the best company, his employees won't leave. Part of that involves seeding all the other companies with uneducated dropouts.

its called correlation != causation people correlate that dropping out of college means entrepreneur, when in reality, the reason why they dropped out is because they founded companies within second or third year of college, and they knew that they could pursue it more if they dropped out. in some instances, institutions might take legal action for founding a company using their property, hence the need to drop out. college education *may* be needed for starting a career, but it is not needed after a stable career has been established.
