@@nickcummins6157 I hadn't realised that until you told me. I was thinking we had a clean TT. That's gutted me man. Mercifully though we didn't lose anyone, and that is absolutely priceless.
Stop criticising the marshals. They are doing what they should do. They are taught to get the flags out and then wait 10 seconds before actually doing anything else at all, in order to assess the situation calmly and safely, even if a rider is down. No part of the training is to go sprinting into the incident scene. TT marshals get killed; this is not a 'racetrack'. Things are very different.
Exactly 💯. And even applies to the racetrack. I once crashed on the opening lap of a race while in 3rd. I knew I was lying in the middle of the track and just lay there for a moment to get my bearings and gather my thoughts before jumping up in front of a group of racers. Once I saw it was safe I quickly got up and of the racetrack.
What a shame Hickman was on a mission and was going to smoke everyone, his name should be etched into that Senior trophy 🏆 but that's racing. Glad your OK, come back next year
@@kenyandrama As a local resident, I can tell you it all depends on the weather. No predicting who will do what next year when you can't even predict the weather. The best years where new records are set are the years when we have 2 weeks of no rain and pure sunshine - and that does't happen often at all. 2018 and 2023 are perfect examples where we had no rain at all and thats when the fastest laps were set. I think its mainly down to extra rubber being laid down for the entire 2 weeks from all the racing and not washing away, so theres more grip and no damp patches anywhere.
Once again the island proves it can catch out the greatest of riders,And I believe Pete Hickman is the best on the Big bikes. He seems a decent fellow the way he conducts himself on and off the track.Glad he’s Ok.He even had the presence of mind to move the bike after that. These Guys are something else
Look at the rear wheel jumping all over the place when the bike was on its side, I think that’s the cause of the crash. The wheel broke, what do you think?
Well he was 20 seconds down in the Superbike race and was gifted that win that because Dunlops visor problem caused him to pull over at St Ninians. So...swings and roundabouts.
Marshaling isn't easy . You have to think of other riders going at speed. I know as I marshalled for decades at the UGP and other races. Many the time I found myself in the middle of the road picking a bike up with riders going both sides of me. You have to have eyes on the back of your head. In this situation both bike and rider were off line and the rider on his feet. My only comment would be about the rider having to pick the bike up which if the rider is injured could make things worse. Also to check the road for fluids.
Looks like the team there were unprepared and unsure of what to do Cyril. Slow to react, flags slow up, arms waving, looking at each other for what to actually do, and looks like they were barely fit enough to make it to Pete and his bike. Appreciate others natural response will be to automatically argue this as apparently the "orange army" can do no wrong, but the priority should be to ensure Marshall's are capable and fit to deal with all scenarios.
@@stevencarriganlol. They are all volunteers you whoppa. If you want your crossfit style Marshall’s then there’s no tt so make your mind up. They did exactly what they were meant to. You obviously have zero clue
Hicky was taking serious risks had had a 8 second lead, think he wanted to stamp his authority because of the week he had. He definitely wasn't himself this year, rest up Pete, come back even stronger next year and smoke them all. The Real King of Road racing
It wasn't him. The bike wasn't set up properly. If you watched the bike, it kept shaking and wasn't very stable, but he was still pushing hard, taking enormous risks.
Ironically, Hicky said he relaxed and didn't push the front enough, crashes at Ginger Hall are extremely rare, I was surprised when the news came in, but he was on lap record pace, Michael Dunlop did the fastest lap at this years TT, and could easily had 5 wins, Hicky has had a fortunate run since 2016, hardly any retirements, luck comes and goes at the TT.
I'm so pleased to hear that Hicky is okay . Watching it live on the ttplus streaming website, it did become obvious at one point something had happened.
He's unfortunately large to be competitive on the smaller bikes. But nobody can push a liter bike like him. I was there for his 2018 IOM senior TT win.
Did the guys who play that sport called soccer or is it football I don't remember... Did they watch that. I think he might have hurt his shin... Not sure... Call a time out send in the trainer. Oh the spray, don't forget that...
Actually you can see it clearly when slowed down the second the rear tyre hit the white line on the road it broke grip and slid…..glad he’s ok though seems like a decent guy 👌🏻👍🏼
I appreciate the post just to know he's alright. Not sure what caused the crash but running races so late sun is always low and might have been a contributing factor. I've watched from ginger Hall a few times and it's a bit of a nightmare to see properly.
Pushing hard low side Todd and Dunlop wins forced the error he needed to push would have been a record breaking lap time. To come first ..... First you must finish. Too fast for that part of the track
I think he jumped off it on purpose, if you look he is running wide, no way was he going to make that corner so he went into survival mode..well thats my take on it anyway. Glad he got away with it ok he's a legend!
His rear wheel clearly broke and you can see on the vid when it’s on the side the wheel is jumping all over the place. I can’t believe nobody else has spotted it yet. Take a look for yourself and tell us what you think??
Not supposed to run. If you think you know better volunteer but be warned. We don't get paid. We pay our own ferry fare, accomodation costs, petrol, food. I could go to a sunspot for a month for the price of just the tt. Manx gp the same. The training is free but that's it. We're all getting older but very few youngsters are willing to do it. Lack of commitment maybe. Who knows but without us you'd have to get your thrills elsewhere .
Well you are free to volunteer like they all do 👍🏻. By the way, they're trained to not run to the scene. 1) get flags out. 2) radio it in. 3) wait 10 seconds and assess situation calmly. 4) now walk to incident. Marshals get killed at TT and them running out there helps no one. They're also not medics, so even if the rider is down it's very limited in what they can/should do. They need the TMs to travel to them (on their Fireblades while race is still running) if rider stays down or incident is too big for them.
Sure Glad he is ok, don't matter how good you ride you are going to lay it down just when and where, I have broken 37 Bones on motorcycles if you really ride them it happens,
You have obviously never been a marshal or been to the TT. Thats a blind corner and the yellow flags were out. Hicky was on his feet, only the bike was an issue.
Did you notice that the marshals needed to move past the place where Hicky hit the bales in order to get to where he and his bike ended up? That’s obviously the most dangerous place to be, in the event that a following rider doesn’t see the yellow flag, or possibly gets distracted by all the commotion and crashes in the same place. It literally states in the marshals’ instructional handbook to stop and count to ten before doing anything (obviously this doesn’t apply to the flag marshal, who should react immediately, as they did.) This built in delay is to avoid “headless chicken syndrome” the natural tendency to rush in to try and do something which can blind a person to other dangers.
@@LitleBear there’s been four deaths at this bend in the track, all the riders that died at Kerrowmoar , lost control at Ginger Hall! that doesn’t include the former TT rider in 2011. You’ll need to try and not use Wikipedia 😂 poor effort kiddo!
No. Because they might get hit by a bike/rider and kill both the rider and themselves. TT is notoriously dangerous for marshals. They can't just run out onto live course, even if the rider is down. They have procedures and her permission to go out there during a race.
The Yellow flag was out straight away and could see Hicky was up and walking. They are only supposed to go onto the track once covered by all flags available.
Up there with the worst TT in history. Was over there from Saturday to Thursday, cancelling races saying conditions not good. The riders want to race and no reason why they couldn’t on the afternoons and evenings. I hear Hickman got up shook himself off and went to the pub….
Are you stupid? The riders said that there shouldnt be races with that weather conditions. You want to see riders die because you just want to get your race?
Totally wrong. Riders decided not to race twice - and rightly so - while I was there Mon-Thurs. Tuesday evening for example: Solo warmup lap went out and they said "no" when they came back in.
