Four of us ride the mountain section at the 2024 TT and come across a crashed McLaren that must have happened minutes before. You can see the driver out of the car on his mobile - probably talking to the AA or his therapist?
Yeah! To be fair if he was on his own or maybe just one other biker I would have stopped. We were on a bit of a mission to get somewhere before the roads closed! What else could we do about spillage? Carry our bikes over? lol!
@@tinkertime7165 Nothing you could do about the spillage. Its just that I would have taken a second to make sure my tyres weren't covered in oil emulsion before winding it on. There again, I'm coming up on 50 years of fairly quick road-riding and still in one piece, so my comment is based only on my opinion and experience, not on criticism...
@@petetimbrell3527gotcha, I thought it was a great comment, your LOL made me smile. The possibility of oil did cross my mind, I waited until a fair few revolutions, would the power on in a straight line first and she felt secure, I knew then I would be ok on the side of the tyre too. Glad you have a good safety history.
@@petetimbrell3527 the 2 guys he overtook quite funny the way they were (not) using the road. Maybe the bikes were new toys for christmans for new riders.
Years ago, someone binned a new Veyron into the hedge by me (Littleton Lake)- clearly driven by someone with all the gear, but no idea. It took me 40 years to get to the IoM- it did not disappoint 🙂
Last went 2019 and was stunned at the number of cars camper vans etc on roads aside from locals who are going about their daily business . Can remember in eighties island was awash with bikes during tt very little cars now seems other way sadly .
Thankfully, it seems like nobody was seriously injured in this incident, that's more important than the lack of talent blah blah blah brigade going on about it while not knowing what happened, the car will be replaced or, if the carbon isn't damaged, be repaired. Either way the important thing is everyone is safe.
Trouble with these cars is they flatter an inexperienced driver into believing they can drive fast. It takes years of experience at speed with no driver aids to become a safe racing driver. When things suddenly malfunction or go wrong it's muscle memory that saves you.
1985, my first TT: Mad Sunday, no cones, no police, full throttle, total freedom. 1986: The first cones and the police only in certain turns like Creg-ny-baa; but it was still going fast. Today: Cones and police everywhere; it goes well with the times...it's rubbish...!
Agree about the cones, I thought they were breeding overnight, and so many new speed limits basically causing heavy road congestion a big difference from a few years ago....
Yes I was number 2 mechanic for Ray Swann in 1986. Went round Mad Sunday. Loved it. Scary ride in 2.8 Ltr Capri from Ray's sponsor. Great times. No cones.
It's not straight . The left hander before is The Black Hut then straight into The Verandah which are 4 corners taken as one. Watch some other on board vids , he's still shouldn't have lost it though.
@@tinkertime7165I spoke to him a few hrs earlier on the Saturday morning and he was sobbing off about the bikers with zero skill that kept getting the mountain closed how I laughed when I saw the police post about his accident
@@tinkertime7165 - take care bro, I it take it that it was water and not fuel surrounding the Maclaren (written off along a straight.......ummm.) Great footage - many thanks.
Hi ! Would it be acceptable to use it as a compilation on the Motos N°1 RU-vid channel in France? Well credited for bringing you the maximum number of new subscribers 😉!
4 of us went in 2012 for the first time, camping at the Rugby Club, and it rained all week, apart from the Monday and then they cancelled the Senior, still great times even in the rain.
Wow never would've guessed an Evo. Haven't spent anytime around an Evo so I had no idea they sound that good stock with just some slip ons. Might need to shop for one of those someday. Sweet bike man
@@Blazemon9999 thanks. I love it. Handles awesome, light and flickable with plenty of power for the road (140hp). Such strong mid range, embarrasses most litre bikes.
Aye, you can ride a touch bro. 😊 nice one. I was at the other side of the island when it happened. But I guy wrecked his bike in front of me the next day over the mountain. Just at the start. He was up hobbling and other bikes were involved. It was pretty dodgy the speed differentials. Still, brilliant.
Thanks bud. I enjoyed that section! Yeah you are right tho, the speed differences are big and you have to slow up especially on corners where you need to be sure the rider in front is not going to take your line.
That was cool. I'd love to come over one year to watch, but it's a long way from Australia so I wouldn't be brining my bike. Can you hire bikes to take?
I'm not sure you can but just being here is awesome. The public transport is excellent for getting to the different places to watch, the pubs are great, everyone is friendly, its worth coming even without a bike.
I was speaking to the recover crew. Part of the extended clean up was that the wheels had buckled under the car and they could not pull it up onto the recovery truck. They had to get the hi-ab grab to lift it on.
@@tinkertime7165 Must’ve been to limit the damage. I’ve been to jobs where they just hook the car up and use the winch to drag it on in a crabbing style. 😅
Been to IOM 76 to 80 TT and the Manx GP had some good times on mad Sunday it was just a free for all one way on mountain section , no cones just manx police marshalling at the bungalow ,great memory's don't know how I survived Off the ferry one year a 4:30 am empty roads , you got have a lap haven't you ! like an idiot did Ballaugh Bridge on racing line luckily go away with it , bikes now are amazing ,still riding bikes but much slower Great video keep safe and fast
Im no way a professional by any standards but a wise instructor once said .....if your not on the brakes you should be on throttle no time inbetween creates a fluid smooth drive /ride On another note that McLaren driver reached in the talent bag but unfortunately it was empty
I was just ahead of the mclaren when it crashed. you pass me as you turn in at the bungalow. did i pass you going down sulby valley? then you followed me?
Ah yeah! Were you on IOM plates? You knew that road and got a wiggle on! I thought you rode quick but safe so decided to follow you through, overtaking a couple other bikes and through some wet sections. Nice riding. I beeped you at the end to say thanks as you went straight and I waited for my buddies and we turned right to Ginger Hall.
@@tinkertime7165 yeah, white bmw on local plates. I thought you looked familiar! It's easy when you know where you're going hey, but be careful on that road. You never know what you'll meet coming the other way Nice video btw. A few more runs across the mountain and you'll be flying 👍
@@boojones4348Thanks. I’m still getting used to it. I did a few runs over two year ago and we did it 4/5 times this year. Shame I didn’t get to follow you over the mountain!
Nice smooth fast riding. Not too daft. Nob in Maclaren to be expected. More money than sense and no driving skills. As usual. You should see them I'm lambos around Bradford and Keighley.
@@mikey_bb I remember having that conversation between bikes and supercars on the IOM with my best mate. We were both bikers and he said, "Nah, you're wrong (about a bike being faster), a supercar will always win and, No, bikes aren't faster at cornering."
The mountain section is unrestricted for a reason so people can ride drive with no speed limit and the op wasn't riding dangerously at all but within his means
@@paulprice929 I guess my point was that when you have people riding/driving above their heads and end up crashing it causes problems for the riders , teams, organizers, and fans.
A car crashed into my parked bike and ripped out the petrol tap and squashed one the wheels. I had it repaired at the free repair place (can't remember its name as it was back in the early 90s) and I was able to ride the bike back home to Yorkshire :-)
Typical 'all the gear, no idea', mclaren driver must have more money than sense, perhaps they should have invested in some advanced driving courses or a track day course?🤔 😊
Thanks, I have a lot to learn still. The mountain section is not that well known to me and at those higher speeds there are different things to learn. Everything comes up much quicker! Believe it or not, LOL.
some many people there and so few ahead of crash letting others know WARNING!!!!!!! slow crash ahead. decades of riding seen a few and had a few that should have killed me but God and guarding angel made it other wise. safe Journeys to all
I was up at the Victory cafe when i heard someone in a Mclaren had fecked it. Then the local police came in confirming. Luckily you saw the lads warning folk to slow down.
Years ago Evo magazine did a feature about driving fast cars on the few unlimited roads left in the world. They took a Porsche Carrera GT to do 200 mph on the Autobahn (it was difficult even overnight because of other traffic), another car to Australia where they did the central north-south highway and took the fastest accelerating car on sale in the U.K. at the time, it was American, to the IoM. They set off early in the morning and at about the half way point they pointed out that despite the speed they had been travelling at that was the point that a top TT bike would have been lapping them. Top speed and acceleration are important but speed from A-B is what counts.
