If you are intersted in Harmonies, then I recommend hearing to Kalafina. (The movie about them is even called "A Sparkling Harmony Spun out of Dreams") Best song to have their voices single and together is probably this one: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zOYpZrz_eYk.html Or maybe Oblivious ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fh6GLNASOAY.html Unfortunately the group no longer exists. The composer is Yuki Kajiura, who does a lot of "mystic" sogs for animes.

I honestly think that Peter Hollens is one of the most under-appreciated artists out there. He has put out so much content of such consistently high quality and I urge anyone that hasn't seen Elizabeth's interview with him, check it out immediately. He's a fun, but very focused and driven dude. Everyone knows how awesome Tim is because, well, Tim is awesome and as "Misty Mountains" demonstrated, they can move heaven and earth when they sing together. They definitely elevate this already amazing song. Speaking of heaven, that thumbnail put the biggest, stupidest grin on my face despite this being a very frustrating week. I love the romantic myth that Henry VIII wrote this for Anne Boleyn. When we were last in England, we ate a lovely meal in a restaurant that had originally been a house built for Anne by Henry. The English landscape is dotted with reminders of that romance. While it is not likely that Henry wrote this for Anne, it is a nice fit to their story. We remember him as the old, fat, diseased tyrant that he became and forget the cultured, romantic man that he was in his youth. His personality changes have been attributed to repeated, serious head traumas he suffered from his passion for jousting. As a young man I used to sing this song, alternating between tenor and bass roles. I can still sing the bass role and get a nice rumble going, but now the tenor gets a bit screechy and my falsetto is best left undone. Joys of being old. This performance brought back some very nice memories and I loved your enthusiasm. "Greensleeves" has always been a favourite of mine going back to my teen years when I sang it in choir. For me it never gets old. I'll probably have this on repeat for a while. BTW, in one of your performances (can't remember the name, I plead CRAFT) I was impressed with your low range which had me fooled into thinking I was listening to a male tenor.

Don't forget the gout w/THAT much weight! I believe He also had sores on his legs that wouldn't heal... I wonder if He could have been a Diabetic (would explain why sores wouldn't heal).... ALL THAT Combined... made him a VERY grouchy!!! And the inability to Properly reason.... And turned him into a Greedy, Grubby, Unreasonable, Obsessive, Power Tripping, "Hornytoad".

In the UK, we were often told in school history lessons, that his change in personality was due to the common affliction that affected many mediaeval kings: Paranoia. Brought on by the constant threat (or perceived threat) of being overthrown by a rival. The tiny number of Kings (and Queens) who weren't afflicted by this mania stand out from the rest.

The history of Greensleeves is an interesting mystery. While Henry the 8th (I am I am, hehehe) being the author is the most popular theory, some historians are skeptical because the songwriting style of the song is an Italian style that was not popular in England until about 20 years later. It was an obscure and mostly unknown style in England at the time it was written. The thinking behind their logic is that the King of England would be more likely to know and be able to use the more popular styles. Some argue however that the fact the style was not well known may have been the vary reason the author, maybe Henry the 8th (I am I am) used it, so that does not at all remove him from the 'suspect pool'...... second VERSE same as the FIRST!

Such a beautiful rendition of his old English folk song!! Their voices do mesh together so well I love that the smell it is the same melody as what child is this! Listen to whole freeze collaboration with Chris rock on what child is this… I’d love to hear your comments on their collaboration together?!

I love music so much, and it’s so important to me, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone who loves music and who is always moved by it the way you are Elizabeth. It really makes all of your analyses so great to watch.

This is actually the first time I've heard the original words of Greensleeves. I know this tune from the Christmas song What Child Is This. I did know that Greensleeves was the tune, but I didn't know what the actual words were.

Peter Hollens, in an interview at that time, stated that they did that song in one take.

As much as I value your detailed interpretations (always fascinating learning how and why something moves me in music), I have to say your reactions are adorable and SUCH fun too - Thank you

The only analogy that makes sense in my mind for the differences in voice are Tim's is like a razor blade, by the time you hear it it's already cutting while Peter's is like a pillow wrapped around a brick.

I have always loved this song. For many younger years, I was unaware it had lyrics. I think Blackmore's Night version is a top fave, but this? Wow. Wonderful rendition. Thanks for making my Sunday morning a little brighter. :D

In keeping with the theme of "Greensleeves", try reacting to Ronnie James Dio with Rainbow singing "16th Century Greensleeves" Live 1977 Munich concert. Starts with an outstanding classical "Greensleeves" guitar solo and then Dio brings vocals (totally different song, but still great)

My only issue with this video: I can only give it a thumbs up once! I love this soooooo much!!!! As always, I love Elizabeth's analysis of the arrangement. It give so much more appreciation for the performance!

Thank you for this reaction! Another collaboration from them I think you will enjoy is their cover of "Sound of Silence." Regarding not being able to hit the low notes as a woman, you can take comfort in the fact that there are likely very few men who can hit those notes ;)

That was fun. I love how excited you get. Would love to see you do Gods of Debauchery by Seven Spires! And some Amorphis, their new song just came out today.
