The reason for the difference in the lighting is Tim was in the Cayman islands and Peter was in Oregon. They both filmed on the same day and the arranger put the videos together
This is my favorite version of this song. The contrast in voices is beautiful. Peter in the higher tenor ranges & then paired with the true natural bass voice of Tim. And that last dragon's breath note is truly remarkable & how long he sustains it. Peter & Tim have collaborated on quite a few other songs & they are all beautiful. Peter is a master at layering voices. Check out "Sound Of Silence", Bridge Over Troubled Water", "Greensleeves", "Fire & Rain", "Teach Your Children", "Sunshine On My Shoulders" & "And So It Goes".
Tauri, just so you know Peter & Tim did this one a LONG time before Geoff did his!! By the way, Tim helped Geoff get to his matching of 5 Octave vocal range. 👱♀️👗👠👠💓
And Geoff made a Tim fanboy comment about his growl. Avi had help from Tim as well. This is what happens when singers without big egos help another. You get several amazing bass singers.
Peter has a bunch of covers out there but he also has a few covers with Home Free (as well as more with Tim). Peter and Home Free did Amazing Grace justice and also covered I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For.
To really experience Peter's talent, listen to "I still haven't found what I'm looking for" with Home Free. He literally had his patreons send him videos of themselves singing in the middle of CoVid and he mixed it together along with Home Free. Absolutely Epic.
I'm in the process of re-reading The Hobbit and when I came to this song in the book, these were the voices I heard. One of their finest collaborations is their version of "Greensleeves". What they do with their voices is amazing,
The video production was shot on the same day but in two different locations. Tim was filmed in Caribbean, Grand Cayman Island and Peter was filmed in Oregon.
Tim is a beast!! Also he is the best of the best of anybody! Peter's arrangement is epic! Love Peter, the best of the best too!! Nobody compares , no one!❤
Tim has released a Doo Wop album where his pitch gets as high as Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys. Hie demonstrates this also during the song "Mayday" with Home Free.
Peter is a genius musically and a fantastic singer who has friends across the community and Tim has been one for years. Check out Peter's collaborations with Home Free and others.
Hi Tauri I love this video. FYI Peter has some videos out with him and his wife. There's another duo that Tim and Peter do a song together are the Fox n Hound q husband wife duo. Also Chance sings a song with Fox n Hound and hits a Johnny Cash song.
This is so beautiful. 120 tracks I think. Peter has a beautiful voice. Tim has a 5 octave range so he can sing fairly high himself. Peter and Tim have quite a few collaborations. They just did a new one called And So It Goes which is stunning. Also they announced that they’re doing an album together…can’t wait. Try Greensleeves, Bridge Over Troubled Water and more. Good reaction. Also if you stare at Tim at the end, the camera shakes. Love this!😀
What these two men did with this song is mystical vocal magic, oh my goodness... Chills, nothing but chills... Somehow, thumbs up just doesn't quite say it.
OMG Tauri, beeing familiar with the vid it was beautiful to watch your pure joy over what you were hearing! LOve your analysis / reactions. Yes, I still get chills every time I hear this. My first time hearing Peter was when Lindsey Sterling asked him to sing in her Skyrim version, it's very good in my ears, lots of layers, all voice is Peter and you get to hear more of his lower register - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BSLPH9d-jsI.html .
Peter and Tim have done at least a half dozen or more collabs together and they are all remarkable. Greensleeves was done entirely in one shot, one take. Peter is featured also with Home Free in Amazing Grace and Still Haven't Found What I Am Looking For, a U2 cover.
There are over 120 layers of Peter and Tim's voices in this song....Peter is a true master of layering and arranging...Please check out Peter's version of "I still haven't found what I'm looking for" with Home Free and others....This video was shot in different locations....
Great reaction!!! Yes Peter Hollens and Tim Foust did many more collaborations. Check out Bridge Over Trouble Waters and Greensleeves. Both fantastic covers..
I love Peter Hollens. For me, my favorite is his cover of "Shenandoah" (from the movie of the same name). I also love his collaboration with Whitney Avalon in the Disney Villains Medley, his collaboration with Hank Greene in "The Hobbit Drinking Medley" (from the movie "The Hobbit"), his collaboration with his wife on the medley from "Les Miserables", and his collaboration with Brian Hull on the Disney Sidekicks Medley.
Peter filmed in the Northwest at the same time of the same day Tim filmed in the Caribbean, hence the difference in lighting. Peter said that 120 tracks were used in this video. In the early 2000’s Peter and Tim were in the same a cappella group, Ball in the House, for a short time. They collaborate often on Peter’s projects. Home Free has joined Peter on at least two videos: Amazing Grace (before quarantine) and I Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For (during quarantine).
Yeah that version of that song is super amazing! What an Arrangement! Peter sings with Homefree on a few songs I can't remember which songs off the top of my head but I know he sings a few songs with them.
Songs as good as this are worth the "not used too" statement. It is too good to be ignored. No matter what you are in to. And the way you reacted to proves that. Thank you for sharing this with us, Tauri. Great Post.
What's not to love??? I can/do have so much to say ... and I used to --- but .......... not negative at all. Can't do it without spending hrs on it. (neuro injuries). BeSafe
Given your love of basses :-), you might consider reacting to the Peter Hollens/Avi Kaplan (bass from Pentatonix) song "Black is the Color of my True Love's Hair". Avi does his usual bass stuff, with an incredible riff that shouldn't be possible in the register in which he's singing. Great song that I think you will like.
Don’t be too sure that everything low you heard in this was Tim. It’s my understanding that Peter layered about 130 tracks of himself with only one of Tim. Peter also has his own solo cover of this song, and while he may not get as low as Tim (or Geoff in his cover), he does get pretty low on his own.
I would like to say that the producer/mixer/artist that composes and puts Peter's many voices together to sound like an actual choir should get credit too, but no one thinks of him or her. Of course Peter and Tim are the voice talents here but again, the mixing is what is standing out from a technical perspective. Beautiful composition.
I've heard 120 an also then 140 of layers used in this song, anyway that's an amazing amount of layers and the time an skill to put it all together, I find I appreciate the song even more. Both guys are so good at what they do.
That’s a very good observation, how the production chose to match colors + lighting to both singers’ voices. I’m not sure that I’ve heard another reactor pick up on that. Spot on.
Peter was in an acapella group that competed in the same season of The Sing-Off that Voiceplay and Home Free were in. Competitions are a good networking tool.
Peter Hollens has an even deeper rabbit hole than Home Free. He’s been doing this for years, and I have never heard one of his covers or originals I didn’t like. He has an incredible range and is a master at layering his own voice. The light and dark is because they were in two different locations. Tim was in Hell, Grand Cayman and Peter was in Oregon.
You need to check out Tim's solo stuff on his music channel (Tim Foust music ) on You Tube. The has an album called pieces of me that is just great it's done in a do wop style.
Amazing mixing job here....beautiful. Loved your reaction Tauri! By the way, I just ordered some Epica merch, love your Epica Tee!! Can't wait to see them in concert in Oct! Sabaton too of course.
I think you have discovered the very best version of this song. I really enjoy your reaction. Fun fact: Peter was in Oregon and Tim was in Hell, Cayman Islands for the filming of this. I think the word you were trying to come up with was "Epic". Please do check out more Peter and Home Free and Peter and Tim videos.
You might also enjoy Peter doing I See Fire, which I believe is also from The Hobbit movies. Peter does it all by himself, and I've read that he layered over 100 times for parts of the song. His arrangements are insane!
I am watching your face and I can tell you're in a special place. It's so haunting and you understand the message so well. It's such a wonderful arrangement.
