After following in his family's footsteps, James Cadbury enters The Den in the hopes to secure a Dragon deal of £75,000 in return for a 5% equity stake in his company 'Love Cocoa'. It's a luxury handmade chocolate brand inspired by his great, great, great grandfather, John Cadbury. Despite discovering some flaws in James' business model as well as a potential lawsuit on the horizon, Peter Jones stands his ground and fights for the young entrepreneur. Can this new kid on the chocolate block bag a deal from our Dragons?

Peter saved Mr.Cadbury's pitch, which had he not done so it would have hurt Cadburys brand & made future investor's harder to come by. He then reinforced Cadburys brand by pointing out solutions to the problems the other Dragons had brought up. That one act alone added value to Mr.Cadbury's brand he wouldn't have even realized was there. Peter would have been the better investor in my opinion. He, unlike the other Dragons, proved his value to Mr.Cadbury. Just because something is cheaper doesn't make it the better value, that's a short sited way of thinking.

The surname was used in the branding therefore he cannot legally use it because his family sold it. The same thing happened to KFC, he sold his likeness and got sued for it in later on when he used it in another business.

Apparently the deal fell off after the show but Tej and James parted ways in good terms. Love Cocoa is now worth £14million, and James is exporting to more than 10 countries. Really happy for him! Amazed that despite not having to bring a Dragon on board he managed to really grow his business.

weird that nobody said that you cannot trademark a surname. so the case ends the moment james says cadbury is his surname. that immediatly disassociates him from the brand. the font is different, the flavors are different, and the title of the product is different.

Vino sitas That’s 100% wrong. No matter what your surname is, you can’t brand your service or product to cause confusion. Cadbury can open a bank or a grocery store or any business that isn’t sweets and he will be ok. But using the Cadbury name on sweets is going to get him sued and he will lose bigtime. It’s not even a close call.

MrJamberee But he’s clearly indicated it’s a separate brand and that’s associated by name only, and his own site indicated the Cadbury’s Corp was sold in 2010 and he created his own business in 2016.

@@MrJamberee Don't claim something is 100% wrong if you don't actually know. Look into the Trade mark act article 11 to see the limitations to a trade mark in the UK. Especially how it edtablishes that registered trade marks cannot limit a third party from using their own name or address in business (same principle exists in the EU Trademark regulations art. 14).

Since Mondelez bought Cadbury I stopped buying it. They changed the recipe, ir's too sweet and lacks flavour. I now only buy Lindt.

Sounds like you're starting to believe the jokes and memes. She is a careful investor and has every right to be. I don't know why people expect her or anyone to just go charging in and backing every half-baked idea that crosses their path; presumably that's how they think they would operate if they were multi-millionaires, and it probably explains why they're not multi-millionaires. Jenny seems like such a horrible person, to me. Has anyone else noticed that when she says something nasty to an entrepreneur, it sets a tone & a lot of the other dragons follow suit. I don't want to watch the episodes she was in, anymore. I understand you can't always think with your heart in business, but I also think that the way she spoke to this guy, was completely unnecessary.
