Customer is not king in the UK. Staff are polite but if you start talking to them like youre something special, theyre going to put you in your place and quite rightly so

Logic dictates that it is most unwise to be unpleasant to anyone who has free access to your food before you have recieved it.

Yeah, never understood people behaving like arseholes to the staff in restaurants - it's a long way from the kitchen to your table with plenty of opportunity for your food to go on a little adventure. Be nice to the staff. @@Obi-J

Besides which, UK waiting staff are not dependant on your charity to enhance their income.

Generally in U.K. customers are respectful and rarely complain even when something isn’t great .

Can't recall which comedian it was that said it but on the subject of not minding surly UK shop assistants "well of course you're in a bad mood, i'd be pissed off too if I had to work here".😆

What makes Peter Kay is just the sheer relatability. I’m from the same town as him and worked in a cafe in the town centre during my teens and being asked “has this place changed hands” was such a passive aggressive dig 😂

We're not known for complaining here.. we complain to each other if we're not happy about something.. like food.. service etc but we still tell the staff that were happy with a smile.. were just too nice

I'll complain if it's that bad it's barely edible, otherwise I just won't ever go back. My mum will kick off if one pea is overcooked!

90% of Men that I have known and eaten with WILL say something if it's more than a minor thing. Sometimes, subtlety and, sometimes, not so subtlety...lol Many of The Women have been "I, NEARLY,said" or "I was GOING to say" or "I THOUGHT to myself" but don't want any confrontation..:)

Definitely tell the staff if something isn't right in a polite manner if you don't want something disgusting to happen to your food. I was in an Indian restaurant one night and this drunk guy started shouting racist abuse at the waiter. The manager came out and tried to reason with the guy but to no avail. This went on for about 10 minutes and it was upsetting everyone. In the end my mate got up, calmly tapped the guy on the shoulder and said "maybe I can explain". He then knocked the guy clean out, grabbed hold of his arm, dragged him out and dumped him out on the street. Then he sat down and asked me to pass him a poppadom. That's how we deal with things over here. ✌️❤️🇬🇧

There is an art to complaining politely and with grace. If you do, you’re more likely to get a positive result.

I was with my wife having a meal at a gastropub. The food was fine, but she found a 1cm shard of clear plastic in her vegetables (luckily, before she put it in her mouth). I politely brought it to the waitress’s attention, who apologised profusely and brought the manager over. The manager then proceeded to accuse us of putting the plastic in the food to try to get a free meal! I hadn’t even considered that, let alone ask for it! We left the table, gave the waitress a tip (not her fault!), paid for our starters and went home, where I immediately went online and left terrible (but true) reviews on every website I could find. Next day I had an email from the restaurant manager, apologising and offering a free meal if I took the reviews down - fat chance! 🙄 (The place went bust 5 months later.)

I have a friend who is a head chef and it's sadly very common for people to put something in their food to try and get it for free. My friend inspects every plate that leaves his kitchen, so they know that anyone who makes a claim is definitely pulling a fast one. In your case the manager handled it very badly but I have some sympathy for why they might have jumped to conclusions.

I don't understand why some people expect to get a free meal. As long as you get a replacement, I'd still expect to pay for it.

I would have gone a different route at the end. I’d take them down - the guy realised he made a mistake at the earliest opportunity, and yes it did take the reviews to make him realise - but now you’re revelling in the demise of the place? That’s a bit sick. The “plastic in my food” line is the oldest scam in the book.

@@gibsonms That’s it’s maybe, but it happened, I wasn’t asking for anything at all, just wanted to alert them because other diners might have bits of plastic in their food too. However, someone accuses me of being a liar and a con artist when I’m just trying to have a nice night out with my wife and I’m going to respond. The place had loads of bad reviews after that so it wasn’t me that sank them.

The stereotype is that Brits don’t complain. That’s nonsense, we do however we do it in the right way. We don’t shout at waiters as it’s rarely their fault, we complain calmly to management

Big difference between the USA and UK when it comes to restaurants. People in the UK are not usually acting as if they are entitled, and the staff are often being payed normally so expect to be treated with a normal amount of respect. They won't take the sort of shite that people in the USA, working for peanuts, are expected to put up with

From an Englishman, for the information of our Americn cousins: There are other adverbs available, other than 'super'. Try 'extremely', 'intensely' or even 'very' (if you don't feel THAT enthusiastic!)

My dad was a farmer and a proper Yorkshireman, if somebody wanted a tip he would always give them the same one, no matter where he was... "Plant your corn early.".

I had a occasion in a London Restaurant that called itself "The London Steakhouse". well I picked the dearest Steak on the menu which arrived after I had finished my Starter. I then asked the waitress if I could have a sharp knife. You can see where this going already, she came back with another knife which would still not cut the steak!! I asked for the manager, who it seems had done a runner. The waitress came back and said would I like another steak. I politely told her no, my shoe leather was fine! All I wanted was a full refund. Then people either side of my table also said they were very disappointed with their meal.Glad that I HAD COMPLAINED! Dumbfounded I asked them why didn't you complain- madness. NONE of my family are slow in coming forward against bad service or food. Meals are not cheap, so you expect the best.

In the UK we on the whole prefer to vote with our feet...although this is changing especially since the advent of social media ...but still people of the UK won't talk about who they vote for, salaries or complain about service ...its private to them only ...kinda goes back to if they can speak their mind then they usually trust you or respect you ...hard even as a Brit to explain ...I suppose we like to be polite face to face as we don't look for drama but just vote with our feet...then of course there are some these days that try it on with the aim of getting some form of compensation, however even if they do get some compensation they won't be back...

I usually try to arrive at the doc's, book in, sit down and then have my name called out straight away. Its all a question of timing. And winding people up. Hehe!

@@4Kandlez Yes, 4K. I feel your pain. My surgery used to keep us waiting for 30 mins minimum. But then they re-automated the system, reduced the number of patients per day and always see us within about five minutes now. Everyone still gets an appointment in the end. Its just they might have to wait a day or two longer for it. And, as most appointments seem to be for minor things and prescription renewel, its no biggy.

It's simple, treat people the way you want to be treated and everything will work out ok, don't be a dick in public, and treat the underpaid staff with respect. It's not hard to do.

This is strange to me about the wait time in a restaurant. I would guess that if you are in a party of six for example and a table for two came up then naturally those waiting for the two would get it, but if you're competing with another party of six then that is fighting talk😄. Great channel.

Americans do have that entitled trademark about them. But in the UK the waiting staff gets paid properly and don’t rely on tips so don’t need to grovel around the customers

Wait until you get high blood pressure and your doctor prescribes diuretics. Then you’ll be having a wee every 10 minutes! That’s going to be about four or five pints an hour. You will be stopping that car every 10 miles. 😊

I would say Brits are generally like that, but not so much as it used to be - as I found out when a did a part time job waiting tables in a very middle of the road restaurant in the UK. The younger generations and the older generations seem to complain the most - oh excluding your typical UK Karen type who are the same wherever you go. What’s hilarious is my brother worked at a very high end restaurant owned by a certain famous chef, sometimes customers who had no clue but lots of money would come in, they would complain about the amazing food because they had no idea how it was supposed to be and thought it should be like Burger King, if they did this rudely they would be asked (told) to leave - the maitre D would clear the table and they would be escorted out. Basically the chef was if you come to my restaurant and eat my food i want you to enjoy it and have a great time, but don’t tell me how to cook - this isn’t pizza express!

This couple are amongst my favourites on RU-vid, but today I clicked onto "restaurant Complaints" and I am very disappointed. This sketch is billed as almost ten minutes. The truth is that it actually features Peter Kay for the start=up at four minutes and fortynine seconds, and as if that were not bad enough it ends after five minutes and fiftynine seconds, so despite it being advertised as nine minutes and thirtynine seconds we actually ghet get ONE MINUTE AND TEN SECONDS of this couple enjoying Peter Kay`s experience at the restaurant.
