Yes great players around them days. Peter Lorimer was one of a kind. RIP Peter 🕯 What a team that Leeds team. they could give it and take it and play as well.
Rest in Peace Peter. Leeds have one hell of a team in Heaven. And thanks for this reminder of a classic era of football. What a shot Peter had, couldn't even see some of these shots. Goalies must have thought, who are we playing today, Leeds, Oh God, Lorimer, I'll get my coat.
My poor eyeballs straining to see several of those in the black-and-white footage before they appeared as if by magic in the back of the net. His cannonball shot was a thing of legend when I first watched football in the 70s. RIP.
One of my heroes when I was growing up he was part of a great Leeds side he would be worth millions today I would have loved him in Glasgow rangers side today rest in peace legend
Great to see the great Chelsea players of that 60s 70s side they had some great battles but respected each other and became friends later in life, 2 of the greatest sides in English football when football was football ☮️❤️
As a young Leeds fan in the 60/70's I always wanted to see Peter score...what skill he had with a football. And his goals are still memorable today. RIP Peter Lorimer.
As a Manchester United fan, I must say he lit up many a Match of the Day programme in my youth. Bobby Charlton was surely a great admirer of his shooting power.
I'm a Manchester United fan of 53 years but boy could this guy hit a ball. Brilliant player. He scored spectacular goals with a ball that isn't like the beach balls the have today.
Rest in Peace Peter. You were my childhood hero and favourite player to a football obsessed 9 to 12 year old lad. Thanks for the memories and great goals. 😢💪🏻
What a player. What a person. Grew up watching that Leeds side and supported them ever since. Thanks for all those memories. RIP Peter Lorimer. A Leeds legend who will never be forgotten.
RIP Peter Lorimer. Remember seeing him on Match of The Day as a wee kid and admiring his playing style and ferocious right boot. Have a beer upstairs with Jack, Norman, Trevor and the boys.
massive influence as a kid watching that Leeds team, how many of us tried to shoot as hard as he did when playing on the street, along with Duncan Mckenzie and Tony Currie he was a boyhood hero.
I watched him and this great Leeds side, and never realised how great he was, what a player what a ball striker. Lots of this great side have passed recently, They were one of the best teams in history. Comparable with any of today's top teams.
Leeds were a favourite team for a lot of Scots laddies in the late 60's and 70's due to the number of Anglos in their team, even more so for fellow Dundonians because of Peter Lorimer, the boy did good, may he rest in peace.
I remember Scotland naming 7 leeds players in a game. Harvey in goal Bremner McQueen Jordan Lorimer E Gray and F Gray some team some fantastic players from Scotland . Makes you wonder what happened
By rights, it should be 239 goals for Leeds, because that strike against Bayern Munich in the 1975 European Cup Final was a good goal: and everyone knew it.
I can remember, as if it was only yesterday, watching my first football match on TV in 1973 at the age of 9 in New Zealand. It was a team in white against a team in red and white stripes. The team in white seemed pretty good and I clearly remember them losing 1-0. There was a guy in the white team with a really hard shot and I thought he’d scored, but it hit the bar. Then the replay showed the keeper saved it before hitting the bar. The player in white was Peter Lorimer (Leeds) the keeper was Jim Montgomery (Sunderland). It was the 1973 FA Cup final. For the next few weeks we would play football in our back yard, I was always Peter Lorimer and practiced shooting as hard as I could. When it was my turn in goal I was Jim Montgomery. RIP Peter Lorimer, you were the main reason I kicked a ball around our back yard for years and have given me so many great memories.
I used to go with my dad to the home games in the 60s. He used to skin himself to take me but what great memories I have of him and the great leeds side. Peter was every boys favourite we all wanted to be "hotshot ' like him. RIP to a legend
I used to support Leeds United in the 60's and 70's, in the great days before football became big business. Peter Lorimer was a hugely talented player who could hit accurate volleys from a distance. One thing that's not mentioned however is that he could bend the ball not only sideways, which was one of his recognised trademarks, but also vertically, which caught many goalkeepers out. Very unusual. Thanks for posting this.
Just think what power he would get out of these lighter footballs today? Incredible power. RIP Lash. 3 out of 4 of my favourite players of that great team have passed in the last year. Keep going Eddie don't dare join them yet.
Wow what a top 20. I'd forgotten how good Peter Lorimer was. A goal that should be in there was the one for Leeds Utd in the 1975 European Cup Final vs Bayern Munich that was incorrectly ruled out for offside!
Phenonemal striker of the ball I doubt anyone in the history of the game scored so many from long shots. Present day footballers would air-shot most of those volleys. Everton fan saying thanks for the memories Peter Lorimer
So sad to see that all the greats are passing away think there has been 3 or 4 this year alone and Gordon McQueen having dementia..I used to work next to Peters pub the commercial used to see him every Friday, John Charles was always lent against the bar with schofield and helary Hanley, great pub great times early 90s, used to see Peter regular on a Saturday at Elland rd...Everyone loved Peter he was the star ⭐️ of that great Leeds side...R.I.P❤️
RIP Peter Lorimer. You were one of the greatest strikers of the ball of ALLtime.Maybe or maybe not Kaddish should be said for you. But I will ,and God will understand.
I remember other kids pretending to be Peter in the playground as a kid. It’s taken me several decades to find out why but finally I’ve been educated. So many excellent goals the final one as good as any I’ve ever seen.
All top three were amazing strikes. If he had one shot back in his career I think it would be in the 1973 FA Cup final. I always think that if he had kept his shot on the ground, Jim Montgomery wouldn’t have been able to save it. Definitely one of the best strikers of the ball in his era. You don’t see long range accuracy in the Premier League these days.
