Hello all!
For this weeks transcription I’m sharing the Peter Madsen piano solo on Anthropology that comes directly after the Chris Potter solo I posted last week. So much good stuff in this solo. As in the Potter solo, you can clearly hear Madsen’s understanding of the bebop language. From this starting point he is then quite adept at incorporating more modern jazz elements. A real McCoy Tyner influence is apparent and great quartel harmony in his lines as well as his LH voicings. Motific development and some great (but difficult to transcribe!) polyrhythmic ideas are also present. Of course his time and sense of swing are also fantastic from start to finish. One forgets that the tempo is around 250bpm…
