...Directly after the B'way run, complete with the B'way sets, here's the original "Indian" cast doing the number LIVE, [from Peter Pan on NBC's Producers' Showcase] exactly the way it was originally performed.. well - a little shorter.
Oh my God. I Love this so much. It's so original. and so Raw. amazing. I absolutely wish I had the priviledge of seeing this on Broadway with the original cast. Sondra Lee is so talented. Fabulous.
I played Tootles when I was younger. They changed how they grabbed me because the directer was worried they were going to pull my joints out of place haha.
I've always enjoyed both versions (55 & 60). I have never seen anything to say a bad word about the 1960 version. The 1960 Mary Martin "intro" is a show stopper. It may be the most famous intro of all-time. Thanks for the video "kinescope".
The amazing " live " 1955 version . No retakes, technical challenges with plenty of children in the cast . What pressure in a one take situation greater than a nightly Broadway show . This live production featured the now veteran but then young Kathy Nolan as Wendy and Heller Halliday AKA Larry Hagman's little sister as Liza supporting her mother . Heller did not pursue acting like her mother or half brother , her position in this role must have been a vanity to Miss Martin . Heller is still living a quiet life as of Nov 2022.
Wish you'd upload some of Cyril Richard from this version. Were there any scenes in the '55broadcast that did NOT appear in the '60 version? Martin has terrific stories to tell about doing this show in her autobiography "My Heart Belongs".
Thanks for this post! I've never seen the '55 version and I'm very curious, as people who have seen more than the '60 version tend to loathe it. Do you have any more clips?
Any sequence you wish to post that has close-ups of Cyril's face. His facial expressions are devastatingly funny. Probably a dialogue scene would be best for this. Thanks so very much!
Dear rodanvideo, Could you please record full videos like Peter Pan with Mary Martin in 1955 and Peter Pan with Mary Martin in 1956 from the TV series Producers' Showcase before you upload them on your channel coming soon? Sincerely, Sam Gross.
...still no Cyril Richard from '55. (sigh) Greatly enjoy Rodanvideo's commentaries...he calls the '60 version arthritic. Can't imagine how scathing his view might be of the entire Sandy Duncan version now posted in it's entirity. Nothing against Miss Duncan, however, we love her.
