Making the Lost Boys not all boys actually undermines the idea that was very clear in the original story, which is that boys need female figures in their lives. Peter and the boys lacked a positive female figure without Wendy, which is why they decided she should be their mother. Ironically, while they have added Wendy to the title they have apparently denigrated her role as the protagonist in the story.
I absolutely agree with your comment. However, Disney needed to update this re-telling of the story in order to make it more inclusive. I believe this is the reason why the Lost Boys now include females. Also, note that the title is called Peter Pan and Wendy. The original Walt Disney animated film's title which came out in 1953 was called Peter Pan.
@@jspur22 I think you missed my point, I'm agreeing with the comment but explaining what Disney's thinking is....not my thinking. There's a difference.
My favorite part was when the lost boys/girls/agenders/transgenders/two-spirits said, "It's morbin' time!" and then jumped off a cliff in solidarity with Captain Hook, who they recognized stands as a symbol of their own internalized ableism in current year. Powerful!
Lost Boy: We're the lost boys. Wendy: But you're not all boys. Lost [girl]: *extremely rude attitude* So?!! Me: **immediately stopped the trailer** I'm out. Don't care.
And still won't get watched, I cancelled it as the only movies on there that are good, I've already seen lots of times, and their own stuff is woke garbage with awful acting, cgi and stories that make no sense.
It’s easier to believe a boy can fly than it is to believe that such a diverse group of children could be living on an English island in the early 20th century. With woke storytelling you not only have to suspend your disbelief, you also have to suspend your intelligence.
you think it's easier to believe that a person could gain magical powers than that people who actually exist could end up living in a different location for a story? how bitter is your life that this is what's getting you going?
@@MaddyIts2am it just looks wrong lol It doesn’t have the same feeling. It’s like a redone rendition instead of adding to a culmination of work. Including faces for inclusive purposes sets it apart instead of adding to the universe ✌️
@@mikerod9555 it is a redone rendition you're right, but it also does in fact add to a culmination of work. it isn't a continuation of the story and it is not meant to be so it's not required to be exactly the same or look the same. if i'm going to watch a new version of a consistently retold tale i'd rather watch one that's different from the last. if i wanted a repeat of one that already existed i'd just watch that.
Impossible to believe in a tribe of boys and girls of different ancestries living on an English island....but possible they can fly? Suuuuuuuuuuuuure. Learn a bit of history. Britain was never lily white.
At this point I can easily tell anything Disney makes is straight up garbage without even watching the trailer or the actual movie. first thing that came to my mind after seeing the trailer notification is ' right, another Disney disaster is here..
At this point I’m just actively hoping for Disney to fail. And the lost boys were all boys to demonstrate they needed a feminine influence through Wendy but of course That would mean they were actually thinking about their projects
The 1953 classic is, of course, the best. However, when it comes to the live action versions, nothing beats Hook from 1991. It is a classic in its own right, and as the saying goes, a classic never dies.
@@milhouse14 I don’t know. I haven’t seen the movie. I can only say no one (and that includes the White people) impressed me in this trailer. Granted, we’re only getting a small sample, but they all seemed like C-level actors to me. What I’m saying is that the diversity of the cast should never be a reason for a studio/casting director to select their actors. If, after you’ve auditioned actors and selected your choices, the resulting cast is diverse, fine. But there’s been enough anecdotal accounts from people in the industry about studios specifically casting non-White actors, that I’m now highly suspicious that diverse casts were casted based foremost on race and not talent.
Since when is Peter Pan Indian? Bollywwod does not re-cast their characters as other races, why is Disney doing this? No one has an issue with Disney's Mowgli being indian. It makes since for that story given it's location and setting, but this? Why?
who gives a shit? the original plot isn't "Aryan Peter Pan on the Nazi Germany Neverland" where his skin pigmentation is relevant to the plot. it's a movie for kids. stop whining about this and move on weirdo.
@@CommadoBro Ta Challa's race is important to the story of the Black Panther. The race of Tinkerbell is not important to the story of Peter Pan. In fact, Tinkerbell is not even human.
Oh good, tink is black, the lost boys are girls, and the native American chief is a woman. I was really worried disney wasn't going to be intersectional enough with their movies
@@williampearson6299 make movies about black stories. Why use white stories and recast everything, even the lost boys couldn’t be boys because something with tits and a beard would be offended they are using gendered language. What will really show that Hollywood cares about diversity is if they make films based on black stories and mythology. Not take white stories and mythology and start race swapping. As for the alphabet representation I’d rather watch mentally ill people eat their own shit and vomit it out. I can identify with black stories, they will still use words such as woman and you know what they mean. And there is legitimately cool African mythology out their besides Egyptian.
It might have something to do with fact that there is a clause that the original author made so that proceeds from the book and any adduction be giving to a children's home. And unlike other copyrights that after 100 years the material because free, Peter Pan was protected by law a few years back so that the proceeds will forever go to the said children's home.
Because it's literally thè perfect coming of age story for kids. And every generation should have one. The real question is why are you so hypocritically selfish that you think only your generation and those before deserved reboots? Because Peter Pan is a 1911 story, bub. Not something created in the 70's or 90's or 2010's. Whichever generation you're from. It's from way way back. Educate yourself.
well because the warner bros peter pan 2023 already do a live action style inspired by that fairytale story disney film. And also many people already know the story so they no choose to do a rewrite or reboot version of this film. Just like the spin-off movie "pan 2015" & "hook 1991". do u remember the movie film sleeping beauty & maleficent? they are different film, so i guest this is a rewrite story. So it's a different multiverse of peter pan
I wish they'd make one explaining Peter is actually the bad guy because he steals people kids for his own gain, and Capt. Hook is just trying to stop him. As an adult he can see the error of Peter's way. Food for thought.
Nothing says "we don't care about diversity, but we want to seem like we do" like taking an already established IP and changing everything about it as to turn off fans of the original, while simultaneously telling the people you're catering to that they're not worth an original idea, so here have some sloppy seconds and give us your money.
Not another Peter Pan movie! 😱 It’s as though Hollywood, not just Disney, has long since hit a roadblock of creativity. We are bombarded with remake after remake and sequel after sequel. Oh sure, they can put a new spin on whatever they choose, but what has happened to originality. New blood please; something we’ve never seen before. You don’t remake the original Wizard of Oz or Gone wit the Wind. The original King Kong knows no equal, but they keep trying. The original movies filled us with awe. Remakes…not so much.
@@he-ch1559 It's a part of who they are. It's how the fan remember and identify the character. It's a very noticeable and iconic thing. Also the character represent the people and the cultural. How they look is part of the represent . So you have to faithful to the original. You can change but only minor things or when is a necessary ones.
Well considering, how many times in the last 30-years they have remade Peter Pan, they better do something to change shit up. You should be more annoyed that this like the 7th or 8th movie. Though, not too upset because of a clause that original author made so that proceeds from the book and any adduction be giving to a child's home. And unlike other copyrights that after 100 years the material because free, Peter Pan was protected by law a few years back so that the proceeds will forever go to the said children's home. So, maybe still support it, for the children.
@@jasontodd6779 From what I've seen Peters race does not change who he is. Tinker Bell is a fairy, so having a different race doesn't change who she is. If you are talking about representing a culture that is what they did by keeping the Darling children white. An upper class Victorian family.
First little mermaid and now peter pan. Poor Disney runs out of money to make ridiculous live-actions. Pocahontas is going to be next live-action project.
Looks good but the music sounds like it's a disaster flick and the line you're not boys wasn't necessary unless you want to send a message but It has to be as magical as the 2003 peter Pan. Loved that one. That's the bar.
Can not wait for a Disney plus only film as everything not under the princess brand gets no theatrical release as if non- Princess/female films will not make money.🤨😒
Never thought Peter Pan would be indian boy, Tinker Bell - black girl, Ariel mermaid - black girl, Maria from The Last of Us would also be a black woman...🤦
I think this movie "pan & wendy" is a reboot or rewrite story of peter pan. Well compared to og disney & warner bros 2003 version this one is more different. Just like the film "hook 1991" who are spin-off story of grown up pan & hook, or sleeping beauty & maleficent, They are both inspired by the same novel but they had a different story & characters. That's why the tittle are different "pan & wendy" and not peter pan, So i thinkt this is a different multiverse story of peter pan,
