That Mary Travers puts her beautiful heart into it, emanates love and joy and sings like an angel. Such a touching song beautifully presented by all four artists. Thank you.
I saw PP&M at least 25 times from the mid 60'S on to 2007 they were like fine wine. you have to trust your band mates to carry that harmony. Real natural harmony
Never was a big fan of Andy Williams but that boy could sing. He and his brothers had great harmonies. They were a big influence on Jazz vocals into the 70s and 80s with groups like Manhattan Transfer and Rare Silk. The story here in Cincinnati was that they would be dismissed from school to perform at WLW and then once that was over taken back to class. Even then they were doing things different than Glen Miller's Mountaineers, et al., and did the kinds of harmonies like the Four Freshman and the Letter Men would do in the 1950s. The ladder two groups were a big influence on a lot of folk groups that followed. He had a bigger impact on music than I realized from watching this and the ones "yootami" posted. His style is Jazz but he is pretty amazing and he has a good ear for harmony. Thanks for the post.
Although my parents never played PP&M to me, they did play many of their tapes on long car journeys. As a result I grew up listening to the likes of Kate Bush, ABBA, Super Tramp, Don McLean etc - and spend most of my time looking back for more music, rather than seeking out the latest "hit". Exposure is what would benefit the "young" - you can't love what you've never heard. Pass on your love, don't leave it to RU-vid ;)
Mary Travers. Absolute CLASS. She had a voice that threatened to come in and blast you away at will. Up there with Judith Durham, Patsy Cline Barbra Streisand and Christina Aguilera (yes....thats what I said)
She Was Eye Candy I got her to Smile Only then I imagined her lips on mine Told her she was Eye Candy in my style Like fine Wine She too took her time Kiss was sweeter than wine it took awhile
You know groups have got it right when they all strive to be one voice when not sing solo or duet; not one tries to make their voice stand out. Panatonix are masters at this.
PS: (RIP) TO THE LATE MARY TRAVERS & ANDY WILLIAMS, LUCKILY THEIR PAST MUSICAL WORK IS PRESERVED ON CD & THE INTERNET FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS TO ENJOY. A TRUE EXAMPLE OF GREAT HARMONIES IN ACTION, SIMILAR TO THE CARPENTERS SOUND OF THE 1970'S. THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES!

When I was a young man and never been kissed I got to thinking it over what I had missed. I got me a girl, I kissed her and then Oh lord, I kissed her again. Oh, kisses sweeter than wine, Oh, kisses sweeter than wine I asked her to marry and be my sweet wife, And we would be so happy the rest of our lives. I begged and I pleaded like a natural man, And then, oh lord, she gave me her hand. I worked mighty hard and so did my wife, Workin' hand in hand to make a good life. With corn in the field and wheat in the bins, I was, oh lord, the father of twins. Our children they numbered just about four, They all had sweethearts knockin' at the door. They all got married and they didn't hesitate; I was, oh lord, the grandmother of eight. Now that we're old, and ready to go, We get to thinkin' what happened a long time ago. We had a lot of kids, trouble and pain, But, oh lord, we'd do it again. I worked mighty hard and so did my wife, Workin' hand in hand to make a good life. With corn in the field and wheat in the bins, I was, oh lord, the father of twins.
Asked for a date she didn't decline Her kisses were sweeter than wine She was Special better than fine With a ring I asked her to be mine For forty years Now life is divine Brave an Bold Glad I had the Spine

As much as I liked Peter, Paul, and Mary, this is so terribly dreary in comparison to Jimmie Rodgers version from 1957. Not a thumbs down, but definitely look elsewhere.
