I am glad you watched this even if it were only from the game. I watched this as a kid in 1990 or 1991 on TV and became infatuared with simply action. As an adult i grew to appreciate this movie even more. Glad we viewed this clip!
@@viprdude Interesting! Yeah I i loved the first movie! Also the game is very faithful to the original movie as well which many fans and I appreciate :)
I've met and talked to Peter Weller and Nancy Allen, both are very nice but Peter is great to talk to. Class act, not a prima donna, very bright guy. He's just like he is here with Bobbie.
Oh come on man. What do you mean he's much too intelligent to be an actor?! If he and other actors weren't intelligent they wouldn't be actors to begin with. How do you think actors become actors? They read a script over and over for whatever role for a movie they want to be in and they practice everyday. People don't just walk on stage or infront of a camera and become actors overnight.
His voice is just so perfect for Robocop. I can't even describe what his voice sounds like, but it's a perfect "character" voice. If I had to describe it, it's the "90's Superhero Voice". Back in the 90's, whenever a superhero in a kids cartoon would parody or copy Superman(pretty much the definite Superhero templet at the time), this is what they sounded like.
If you stuggle with confidence take note of this man. Speak calmly, slowly, remain eye contact and people will hang on your every word exactly like we were with Peter
Peter Weller played with Miles Davis. He also has a doctorate in art history these days. Dr Weller taught courses at Syracuse University. He's also been on the History Channel for several series including "Engineering Engineering an Empire". Smart man indeed.
@@coolcat6303 People forget about the movie Shakedown in which he co-starred with Sam Elliot. He was also on Sons of Anarchy too. When he isn't at a university he is off making badass action movies and tv shows.
Amazing interview. Weller is clearly extremely intelligent but very interesting with it. Throw in the best voice in the business and I could listen all day. Great upload 👍🏼
Another great piece of film history really capturing a moment of a much loved and respected film that at that time they would have no idea the impact it would make.. such a good interview from Peter, great quality of video also, it looks like it could have been filmed yesterday let alone in the mid 80’s!
What a smart & thoughtful/intelligent guy. I never would’ve known as much, as pertaining to this guy who played Robocop, had I not watched this interview. I’m a fan. It’s too bad we don’t see him in other films really. Or at least I personally haven’t. Such a shame.
TV Guy here: This was back when Pro video cameras were expensive. Like mid range car expensive. After taping the subject, the one and only camera is "turned around" and the interviewer pretends to ask the questions. Then they are cut together and the audience is fooled. The camera also had to be manually white balanced, which is what the white paper at 8:58 is all about. The viewfinder on the camera was black and white and a colour monitor would be a big deal. So, like the angst of waiting for film from the lab, it was a relief to see the colours come back correct in the edit bay. Oh, it was wild and woolly back in the days of analogue...
@@endrizo Can't say. It looks better than 3/4 inch Umatic (and VHS is also Umatic "colour under" for the record, just less real estate per frame). I'm not sure if Betacam had happened just yet, but that's a fair bet. First gen Betacam, not SP or DigiBeta, which came later. But the cost was insane compared to today, especially if it was 1": reel to reel. I was around for the end of 2 inch through 1 inch (helical scan made for one line per drum rotation, vs. 4 zones on a 2" rig). Once the sealed cassette Betacam came around, tape ops could be monkeys...(Betamax is the weak consumer level slow playing cousin of the professional level BetaCam family...)
U know Arnold was suppose to play robocop but they didn’t like the idea they said terminator was already a big hit so they didn’t need Arnold to be robocop instead he did total recall I’m so glad they didn’t put Arnold 😂😂😂
Lance Henriksen was almost cast as the Terminator but Cameron gave him role as a cop instead when they got Arnold. But a couple of years later, Cameron gave Lance the role of Bishop, the android in Aliens.
I've never seen this interview before. I wonder if its on the arrow 4k release. What a great interview. I have loved RoboCop since I was a child. What a blast back to the past.
"Let me explain this bloodbath of a movie to the media in the simplest of terms.. BEAUTY & THE BEAST!!" .. lol.. I love Peter Weller.. He is cleverly steering away the interview from bringing up the violence in the movie .. Also.. Now I want to see a video of Robocop singing "If I only had a brain".. lol
Robo was a protector who had also been a victim. Fascinating to see how an interview of this type is created. Mr. Weller is well-spoken and his role in this movie is iconic. I saw it as a kid when it came out and thought it was kinda violent but also had depth. Worth a watch for sure!
I love how Peter lights up when he's explaining the gun to Bobbie. He truly was in awe of that gun. It's such a weird feeling watching the end there when Bobbie repeats the questions in a scripted manner and how Peter has to answer them again. I guess that's how interviews are made, I have no idea about any of that, but it feels so strange.
not only that, he prepped for the role for months. Even hired an acting coach who was a famous mime back in the day. His original movements were supposed to be snake like but the first version on the suit was too difficult to move in
This interview seems rare, it isn't even on the Criterion Edition of Robocop. Gotta respect Peter Weller as an talented actor and great human being...dude even Says Verhoeven's name right, the 'hoeven' part is pronounced as 'hoof' in Dutch. 1:53
He is still one of the few actor idles I have. Everyone I respect that acts, pushes themselves constantly or risks their life needlessly. Sometimes both. Pete Weller is still awesome. Love his history series on Rome too. What a badass. He is right up there with Dolph Lungren, sly Stallone and Jackie Chan. Very intelligent and talented!
Que actor Don Peter Weller muy culto y con opinión.mis respetos para él. Su papel de Alex Murphy fue la mejor decisión para la peli...ya que otros actores declinaron como Rutger Hauer, Michael Ironside...entre otros.
The story of the original film is fantastic one of the best movies of all-time. If Robocop 2 had been the continuation of that premise where he tries to get his family back instead of rejecting them in the beginning of the sequel, I think the franchise could have become one of the greats. Instead it is a one-off franchise.
I'm surprised he didn't tell her where to go, when they started re-phrasing her questions, after the actual interview was over. I've seen her doing that in another behind the scenes interview. I wouldn't trust anything that news company produces, because they obviously change things to suit themselves and they could manipulate things to make it seem like the person being interviewed had said things in a completely different context to what they actually said. It's like that scene in The Running Man, where they used the helicopter security video and made it to seem like Arnold's character had said things completely opposite to how the character said it in the original context.
Peter Weller actually wasn't the first choice to play Robocop. Lance Henrikson and Arnold Schwarzenegger both turned down the offer to take on the role.
100 euro Scorsese and coppola was 1 and 2, his eyes are so wipe open, so involved or focused must be morning, and his in murphy uniform, maybe they were shooting the death of murphy that day....so cool, great film
