As a guy who just regularly drives a 10 wheel dump trucks on roads like this, I have mad respect for log truck drivers who do it.

Ya I just mentioned that on their other video. The dangers on work and effort that went into building this road by someone where a road didn't exist. To be on the side of a mountain pushing a road through behind you the road you are building up and in front just the slope of the mountain side where you are going cutting into the hillside and pushing forward to create a usable road to drive on. Both are just as dangerous.

Josh S you have no clue how rough it is. You risk your life driving on dangerous roads and in dangerous weather. Think to yourself... you wouldn't have what you have (ANY OF IT!) IF IT wasn't for truck drivers. So rethink what you said. Unless you drive a semi don't sit there and undermined what truck drivers do. They have a bigger impact on anyone's life than other job profession.

That's crazy! I've seen what happens to a 4x4 truck that rolled off a road similar and nobody survived and the truck is still sitting at the bottom because they can't get it out. It's estimated the truck rolled 200 times before slamming into trees near the bottom. Everybody died. Said road edge gave way and off it went. Loads of respect for these guys.

Rookies take notice, it's steady as she goes in these situations. Your not playing music, checking your phone, trying to find your bladder buster Mountain Dew on the floor board! You need to fully focus on the job at hand and you need to hear every noise the truck, trailer and load makes as you move along. It could save your life. Cool video!

The drivers that look over the edge and keep thinking about what would happen if they drove over the edge, will never make it. You MUST focus on keeping the unit ON THE ROAD instead and forget about "what a wreck it would be if". The brian has this ability to focus on what really matters if you let it. If your careful and focus on your rig staying the road, instead of constantly looking over the edge and visualizing going over, you'd be fine. Aside from mechanical breakdown, road failure, just kerp the rig on the road and you'll be fine. Don't get me wrong, being a little scared is ok if it helps you be safer, but if it makes you panic, you need a different job.

@jasoncarpp7742
@jasoncarpp7742 6 лет назад
I've never heard of a "pintle hook" trailer. What's that?
@canuckoutdoors3493
@canuckoutdoors3493 6 лет назад
Jason Carpp basically instead of hooking on the 5th wheel the trailer hooks up the the back of the truck like a small trailer you might pull with a car, as you turn the ass end of the truck swings the opposite way yanking the trailer much farther to the outside of the turn than a normal trailer thus dramatically tightening the turning circle, the trailer is very short, however it can still carry long logs because the trailer actually is only holding the back end of the logs, the front ends are resting on the truck frame. You can check big picture on his channel too. Or his driveby videos
@jasoncarpp7742
@jasoncarpp7742 6 лет назад
Ahhh! Okay. Fascinating.
@brianmcdaid3178
@brianmcdaid3178 6 лет назад
Canuck Outdoors is correct on this. The reach from the dolly axles carries no weight, it connects the dolly to the truck with a pintle hook and guides the dolly. The weight of the logs is carried by the swiveling bunks on the truck and dolly. If the frame of the truck is long enough and the reach is the right length, the dolly wheels will not off-track. The dolly wheels will actually follow in the track of the drive axles. Great for mountain logging like this. They also load the dolly on the truck when unloaded. Easier to manueve, better ride, and makes for easier and shorter turn-outs to make way for loaded trucks on the narrow logging roads. Loaded trucks always have the right of way over empties.
