We lived a few miles West of Petersburg for 20 years, drove past this house many, many times, did not know it's significance. Thanks again guys!

You can stay overnight in this house. Owners use it as an AirBnB, I’m told.

If the porch has the same shape as in 1865 the two must have sat in the round area to the left.

Now that the series on Petersburg is wrapped up, are you going to release a map summary video like the other battles?

Watching this video and listening to the story being told I can picture it happening and I imagine myself standing on the sidewalk back in 1864 watching our President climb down from his horse.

It now makes sense why Grant gave so generous terms. The one question I have is did Lee end the confederacy or did Jefferson Davis as an country? (I know that Lee surrendered his army but what effect did that really have?)
@matthewmiller9526
@matthewmiller9526 3 года назад
I think the effect was psychological on the people of the South. At that point Lee was the epitome of the Confederacy, he was the Confederacy and his surrender and his decision not to make it into a guerrilla war was what allowed the US to become the dominant nation it has become.

The only part of the Lincoln movie that did not fit the historical place was there interpretation of the Lincoln and Grant meeting.

Gee. I thought Meade was commander of the Army of the Potomac and it was his responsibility to pursue General Lee.
@jamesleathers5488

Grant was in command of all U.S, Armies as of March of 1864. So Meade was his subordinate.

"Therefore I deemed that you were fighting the battles of our liberty, our progress, and our civilization; and I mourn for the stake which was lost at Richmond more deeply than I rejoice over that which was saved at Waterloo." ~ Lord Acton correspondence to General Lee (4 November 1866)
