This video is about the Old Market Town of Petersfield. Town is located on roads North-South A3 and East-West A272. It is a quiet town and by train we can reach London Waterloo in 1.03 hours. Supermarkets like Waitrose, Tesco, Lidl, Mark & Spencer all got their outlets in Petersfield.
The schools are Churchers College, TPS and Bedales. Petersfield is in East Hampshire District of Hampshire County, England. Here I am trying to cover little history of the town.
The area named 'The Spain', the exact origin of the name is uncertain. It could possibly be connected to the Spanish merchants who might have traded in this area or it might be an alteration of the word 'Spayne' meaning 'tile' because of the large houses here with tiled roof rather than thatched.

I left the UK in January to live in Portugal but I loved in Petersfield my whole life. Honestly love Petersfield and think it's the best place ever! One day when I can I'll move back to my lovely town

I lived in Petersfield at Bordean Manor, really nice place to live and great shopping town and nice park which you can run a round the Lake.

What about the Spanis merchant that bought the wool from Petersfield and stayed in The Spain when visiting? That was the history I was taught. I lived in Petersfield for many years and return home when I can.

@@CNatural2013 I tried looking up the word Spayne as in tile and couldn't find any mention of it being called that. On Wiktionary I found these examples of the word (and before I get blown out of the water - I know you can't believe everything on the internet). Maybe some Spanish people lived there at one time which should turn up in the Parish records, or the people down there were so rich they could afford to import tile from Spain, as you say the reason is lost in time, although someone at one point in time couldn't afford the Window Tax. It is something that always fascinated me, as I grew up in Petersfield from the age of 7 till I left for the US at 30. Etymology From Anglo-Norman Espayne, from Late Latin Spania, from earlier Latin Hispānia, from Ancient Greek Ἱσπανία (Hispanía). Proper noun Spayne (plural Spaynes) Spain; the Iberian Peninsula, especially Castile It is a lovely film and understand the effort you put into making it. Thank you
