On RAW, silvery barbs enter in action AFTER the first dice is chosen, so if you roll at advantage, you pick the highest, THEN roll 1 more dice and compare THAT one with the already chosen from the advantage roll, is not like the Lucky feat which enter in action with all dices at once, so is not a triple disadvantage, is just A disadvantage on top of any roll If a second caster also cast silvery barbs, it will be compared with the already final dice with the new one, not all dices together at once

So to give an example, if you roll a 10 and a 5, it becomes 10, then silvery barbs kicks in and if they roll a 7, the 5 is already out of play?

I was gonna explain this as well, but @SkaalKesh beat me to it. But yes, the trigger for Silvery Barbs is that the creature succeeds on the check. That means advantage/disadvantage already applied to the initial roll

I run a long-campaign biweekly, but my players will trade seats each week in between to run a one-shot. We have all found that we dont get upset when the DM's monster uses Legendary Resistance with strategies like this because we'll burn through them all in a single round and then another party member will cast a totally different, equally crippling spell and the monster just has to take it, haha. It makes me as DM think about when to really use those resistances and if the monster knows well enough to not burn them all

RAW you are definitely correct. RAI I'd argue for resolving the advantage (2D20, pick the highest) and then rolling an additional D20 to pick the lowest between this and the higher one of the previous two. I will die on this hill - anyone who runs silvery barbs (or luck feat for that matter) lile suggested here is a wiener 😂

This is exactly what I do, and didn't even think to consider running it the way Monkey has here. I also make silvery barbs not castable on your own turn; citing the rule on leveled spells for spellcasting.
@STORMB999
@STORMB999 4 месяца назад
@@MrInvaderjimYou might be using that rule incorrectly. There is no rule that prohibits casting multiple leveled spells on 1 turn except for the rule under Casting time - Bonus action: A spell cast with a bonus action is especially swift. You must use a bonus action on your turn to cast the spell, provided that you haven’t already taken a bonus action this turn. You can’t cast another spell during the same turn, except for a cantrip with a casting time of 1 action. My wizard could cast a spell with my action, get counterspelled and use my reaction to counterspell again. I would be unable to do this if the original spell had a casting time of a bonus action though
@THEPELADOMASTER
@THEPELADOMASTER 3 месяца назад
That's how it is RAW. Silvery barbs only applies after a creature succeeds on a save. So if they roll with advantage, they pick the result, succeed, then they have to roll again. That's how silvery barbs works as per the text on the spell.

The alternate way to do it, while not as reliable, is with Bestow Curse (as highlighted in the video) plus Bane. All too often do we as players miss by just 1 or 2, and forget we have casters who could cast Bless, and even more often forget we have access to Bane when enemies barely succeed

@Riddlewizard
@Riddlewizard 4 месяца назад
Except he's doing it wrong. He apparently didn't read the damn spell, and just jumped on the BAN IT train. Silvery Barbs comes into play AFTER a roll succeeds. This combo is easily defeated by a DM with a functioning brain. If I have advantage on saves against spells, and you cast Bestow Curse to affect my Con Saves, it's now a straight roll IF I fail that Bestow Curse save. But if I succeed, you can cast Silvery Barbs as a Reaction. You can hope that I fail. I might. But now it's just Disadvantage with one die already rolled. Nothing doubled. I took the higher number with my advantage, you cast Silvery Barbs, and now I rolled one more and have to take the lower. I might succeed. But let's say I didn't. You just turned advantage into disadvantage. That's all. Now, with Bestow Curse active, I normally would have Disadvantage on that Con save you or your ally intend to target with Flesh to Stone. But I have Advantage against spells So I roll normally instead of with advantage, because advantage and disadvantage cancels out. But now the one that didn't cast it before casts Silvery Barbs if I succeed, and try to make me fail. You didn't make it into triple disadvantage at any point. Not even double disadvantage. You just give me plain old, normal disadvantage. And you could only do that by being within 60 ft range of me and burning your Reaction. Which means you can't cast Shield or Counterspell. It also means YOU are in range of ME. You HOPEFULLY made me fail ONE save. I have two more to fail if I did- and I can still cast with a restrained condition that comes with the first save. So on my turn? I can still attempt break your Concentration with a ranged attack at disadvantage, or feature, or a spell- and all of your effort just went to waste if you fail your Concentration save. I'm also not dumb enough to fight a four on one battle without some backup, so you not being able to cast Shield that round because you burned your reaction? It's going to HURT. And if you took War Caster, like everyone else who reads it wrong, instead of Eldritch Adept: Eldritch Mind, I will laugh at you as either I or one of my allies cast Sleet Storm. Which does not trigger War Caster's Con save advantage, because that only works *when you take damage.* Enough attacks, or the straight roll you'll be making due to Sleet Storm, and you'll fail. You have three rounds of enemy attacks and an AOE to go through. Enjoy trying. He gets War Caster wrong too, by the way. A lot of the big name RU-vidrs do.
@y2kafka472
@y2kafka472 4 месяца назад
@Riddlewizard Well... he has a popular RU-vid channel, so clearly he's correct, and you're wrong. Edit: But seriously, Sleet Storm? Very underrated. Same with stuff like holding Silence as a reaction so it can't be counterspelled. Sadly, most people can read words but can't figure out how they go together.
@yanderemuffin
@yanderemuffin 3 месяца назад
@@RiddlewizardIt is made into "triple disadvantage" though. The regular disadvantage (2 dice, choose lowest) is kinda made triple by the silvery barbs. It is not literally taking 3 dice, rolling them all, and taking the lowest but it's the same thing. It's taking 2 dice, rolling and choosing the lowest, and if that lowest is still a success then you're forced to roll again (for 3 total rolls). The guy also said at the beginning to skip the first step of giving disadvantage if the monster has advantage on the saving throw, which is probably because theres a lower effect in turning advantage into a normal roll (especially when you're going to reroll 1 die if it fails anyways) than the considerable effect of making a person roll at disadvantage. So basically, it's not literally double disadvantage - but it is rolling 3 dice.

Uhhh, just be an Eloquence Bard? Bonus Action: Unsettling Words Action: Flesh to Stone If they pass, Reaction: Silvery Barbs, the Unsettling Words still applies. Silvery Barbs is on average a -2.5 to roll. Unsettling Words is on average a -3.5 at level 5. Take a 2 level fighter dip for Action Surge. Round 1: Mind Sliver for -1d4 (2.5) on next Save, bonus action UW (-3.5), then action surge Flesh to Stone, then Silvery Barbs (-2.5). On subsequent rounds attack with Mind Sliver and Unsettling Words again with Silvery Barbs as a back up.

Grass is a type of plant with narrow leaves growing from the base. Their appearance as a common plant was in the mid-Cretaceous period. There are 12,000 species now.[3] A common kind of grass is used to cover the ground in places such as lawns and parks. Grass is usually the color green. That is because they are wind-pollinated rather than insect-pollinated, so they do not have to attract insects. Green is the best colour for photosynthesis. Grasslands such as savannah and prairie are where grasses are dominant. They cover 40.5% of the land area of the Earth, but not Greenland and Antarctica.[4] Grasses are monocotyledon herbaceous plants. They include the "grass" of the family Poaceae, which are called grass by ordinary people. This family is also called the Gramineae, and includes some of the sedges (Cyperaceae) and the rushes (Juncaceae).[5] These three families are not very closely related, though all of them belong to clades in the order Poales. They are similar adaptations to a similar life-style. With about 780 genera and about 12,000 species,[3] the Poaceae is the fifth-largest plant family. Only the Asteraceae, Orchidaceae, Fabaceae and Rubiaceae have more species.[6] The true grasses include cereals, bamboo and the grasses of lawns (turf) and grassland. Uses for graminoids include food (as grain, shoots or rhizomes), drink (beer, whisky), pasture for livestock, thatch, paper, fuel, clothing, insulation, construction, sports turf[broken anchor], basket weaving and many others. Many grasses are short, but some grasses can grow tall, such as bamboo. Plants from the grass family can grow in many places and make grasslands, including areas which are very dry or cold. There are several other plants that look similar to grass and are referred to as such, but are not members of the grass family. These plants include rushes, reeds, papyrus and water chestnut. Seagrass is a monocot in the order Alismatales. Grasses are an important food for many animals, such as deer, buffalo, cattle, mice, grasshoppers, caterpillars and many other grazers. Unlike other plants, grasses grow from the bottom, so when animals eat grass they usually do not destroy the part that grows.[7] This is part of the reason why the plants are so successful. Without grass, more soil might wash away into rivers (erosion). Evolution of grass

you dont reroll the save, you reroll the D20.. so even with advantage / disadvantage it would still be 2 d20 and no tripple disadvantage... eg. rolling with disadvantage: 19 & 17, so 17 saves, S.B. rerolling the 17, new roll 18 so still 17, and so on... it dose not reroll the whole save with advantage or disadvantage..

Silvery barbs is not one that stacks in this way. They roll at advantage let’s say 16 and 4. The 16 would succeed then the caster could cast SB so they would role again let’s say 14, you’d take the lowest out of the 16 and the 14. So there roll would now be 14. This works a bit differently with lucky or elven accuracy.

Me as a DM the first time my players would do that to my BBEG The Petrification begins subtly, with a peculiar, faint tingling sensation in the toes. As the process progresses, you can see how the skin starts to lose its suppleness, becoming increasingly rigid. This rigidity seeps deeper, transforming muscles, tendons, and even the bones into a dense, stone-like substance. As the transformation advances, the flesh of the foot gradually hardens. The texture shifts from the pliable, warm consistency of living tissue to a cold, unyielding mass. The tingling sensation intensifies, evolving into a dull ache that radiates upward. Within minutes, the hardening effect reaches the ankles. The skin around this joint becomes marble-like, smooth yet unyielding. Each step becomes a struggle, the ability to move slowly fading as the joints lose their flexibility and solidify. The transformation continues inexorably, creeping up towards the calves. Muscle fibers in the lower leg, once responsive and vibrant, become static and stony. Blood vessels calcify, their once rhythmic pulse silenced. The petrification process then engulfs the knees, locking them in place as the joints turn to stone, leaving the legs entirely immobilized. The petrified legs bear the appearance of statues, a perfect replica of their former living form but now cold, heavy, and devoid of life. Upon realizing the petrification creeping up his legs, the BBEG frantically decides to take drastic action to save himself. His eyes widen in panic as he assesses the extent of the transformation, which has already reached his knees. Knowing he has little time, he swiftly draws his weapon-a sharp, gleaming blade that he keeps for emergencies. With a grimace of determination, he positions the blade just above the hardened line where flesh meets stone, at his thighs. Gritting his teeth, he prepares for the excruciating task ahead. He raises the blade and, with a powerful swing, begins to cut through the flesh of his thighs. The blade slices through the soft tissue with relative ease, but as it reaches the petrified part, it clangs against the stone-like surface. He adjusts his angle and strikes again, using all his strength to chip away at the hardened material. Blood pours from the fresh wounds, and pain shoots through his body, but he doesn't waver. Each strike is accompanied by a grimace of agony, but also a fierce determination to survive. The process is gruesome and slow. Each cut through the remaining flesh and bone requires immense effort. He focuses on one leg first, severing it complety from the knee down. The now fully petrified limb falls away with a heavy thud, resembling a stone pillar more than a leg. Breathing heavily, he turns his attention to the other leg, repeating the brutal procedure. Blood loss and pain threaten to overwhelm him, but he pushes through, knowing it's his only chance to halt the petrification's advance. Finally, with a final, desperate strike, the second leg is severed. The BBEG collapses back, gasping for breath, his legs now severed. Blood pools around him, and his lower limbs lay discarded frozen in stone. Though maimed and in excruciating pain, he has stopped the petrification's process. His Survival, for now, is assured, albeit it at a terrebil cost. Me as a DM the second time they try to pull this off. As you cast the petrification spell you can notice a faint shimmer in one of his rings. It seems as if the flow of Magic that sustains your Petrification spell is being disrupted and absorbed.

The bit about turning advantage to super disadvantage is wrong you're borrowing a ruling from lucky but they are worded differently. If you role a 1 and a 20 at advantage and someone silvery barbs you, and you roll an 18 the choice is between the 20 and the 18 the 1 isn't a factor because silvery barbs doesn't have the additional d20 language lucky does.

Is there a sage advice or something that says silvery barbs works this way? I know there's one for the lucky feat that says it works like this, but silvery barbs is phrased differently. Silvery barbs doesn't trigger until the creature succeeds, and then it says they "reroll the d20 and use the lower roll." The way I read that, the whole spell is taking place after advantage/disadvantage have been resolved on the initial roll. Also, has no one argued that you can't have two casters both use silvery barbs on the same d20 roll, because effects from two castings of the same spell can't stack?

You can only be silvery barbs'd once per spell. It counts as a named active spell effect during the dice roll. If there's a 2nd save the same turn then someone else can cast it, but for one roll only one instance of a spell can be active. The only exception is counterspelling a counterspell, because each subsequent counterspell targets the latest counterspell rather than a single spell or dice roll
