100% it's cheaper, time is also currency...so if you were to calculate that, ICE cars are way better EVs, you have to wait 2 to 3 hrs depending on how many EVs are charging at once. Insurance on EVs are WAY pricier than ICE cars.

Imagine we lived in a world where all cars were EVs, and then along comes a new invention, the "Internal Combustion Engine"! Think how well they would sell: A vehicle half the weight, half the price that will almost quarter the damage done to the road. A vehicle that can be refuelled in 1/10th of the time and has a range of up to 4 times the distance in all weather conditions. It does not rely on the environmentally damaging use of non-renewable rare earth elements to power it, and use far less steel and other materials. Just think how excited people would be for such technology, it would sell like hot cakes!!!

One of my bosses has an EQC400. He's had it for a couple of years now and has done numerous trips between Sydney and Melbourne. After his most recent trip he came into the office and declared he's getting rid of the EQC and getting a hybrid. Has to plan his trip based on distance between chargers and hope that the charger is actually operational. At freeway speeds he can't even get from Albury to Melbourne without having to charge in something that is supposed to have a 400km range. On the last trip it took him 6h to get from Albury to Melbourne because there was only 1 charger available when he needed to top up and there was a queue of cars in front of him.
@andrewm190E

Yep. I have a mate with one of them....and it's shit. The charging access for any EV other than Tesla is just atrocious. Mercedes really stuffed up selling the 9% of Tesla they bought for $50 million then sold for $725 million. It would now be worth $60 Billion and they could've had access to the Tesla Supercharger network. A huge own goal...

Can we talk about the fact that LPG is a relative clean burning fuel, cheap to make as it's just a by-product of extracting oil and the fact that the Australian Gov't encouraged people to get it installed 20 years ago with a rebate. Why is LPG disappearing from servo's? I heard word that Ford had to derate the power output of the dedicated LPG models in the B and F series falcons so that they could still sell the xr6's. The LPG models could make far more power stock from factory that the petrol model. My old mans BA wagon with 430,000 kms with aftermarket injected gas made more power on the dyno than petrol with a mild tune up. Yes I am aware that LPG has about 30% less energy than petrol, so more is needed to go the same distance as petrol, but surely more development would help bump up these figures. Anyway great video lads, love the humour and the cut scenes , that made it hilarious 👌

@JT-4real

@@Alex-tu9bh I did mention that in my comment, but when injected it's very viable as it's much more efficient and safe and still half the price of petrol. So the 30% lower energy of LPG compared to petrol is still more efficient to use. My question is to why it's not being talked about more and actually being phased out. Ford had the corner of the market and did it well, it's a shame that it all folded.

Mind blowing how some people cannot accept that EV's have a specific use case when considering time. Great for urban travel and not so great for rural travel unless you have time to spare and have access to charging stations in the region in which you're travelling. Very simple in my opinion. I would absolutely own an EV if I could justify the expense for a dedicated urban vehicle. On the topic of average KMs, the point was spot on. Weekly average (non holiday) driving for me is approximately 10Km, some weekends I can travel 500Km and some months I can travel 5000km. An EV does not suit my use case for all scenarios. Until then, I wait. Thanks for the content

Although I love the technology, acceleration etc it’s actually inconvenient for highway country driving. Recently was planning a business trip to kalgoorlie from Perth and read that a charger was down and another with possible damage . Although I could most likely make it with one top up charge I just couldn’t risk the anxiety attack that was looming. I decided to take my Kawasaki ninja 1000sx . Petrol stations everywhere and top up in 2 mins with piss as well . Ev’s and Country Australia don’t blend very well.

I reckon the Batteries in EV's will get a lot better and will make them much more viable. But as it sits right now, that Car Expert Video really showed what plenty of people already realized. EV's just aren't that good. I like the idea of having a car that costs less money to own. But electricity ain't free and this showed how expensive it can be. Where EV's will be good is that they'll require less maintenance (although some people enjoy that kind of thing). If electricity becomes cheaper and more readily available over the course EV's will become the car of choice.

I love a Turbo Barrow with 1100 Kw but the reality is we're moving on. I've heard some weird emotional arguments for ICE as much as I've heard for EV's. I dumped petrol and converted my 80's commodore to straight gas, never had to worry about range because believe it or not the market accepted LPG and we now have LPG at every station :) Same is coming for EV.

Depending on how you drive daily, the ICE car + a solar installation for the price difference between buying the EV or ICE version of the car, the ICE car and the solar installation could be better for the environment then buying the more expensive EV and not being able to afford the solar installation. Also every KW that goes into the EV could have been used to cook a meal or heat a house instead, so charging will never be free. So for a daily commuter, an EV is a no-brainer it's simply better, for a weekend car or a special purpose vehicle (say tow-car) then maybe not, isn't it great that it's a free market and we're free to choose.

I pass Tesla's on the way to work in the freeway. They sit at 80 in the 110 zone. Is it a range anxiety thing?

Yep, they are trying to use less energey. They should be booked for driving so slow, its incredibly dangerous.

There was another EV vs ICE race in the UK. They bought a $12000 deisel BMW of FB market place and raced it against a EV Porche. The BMW won obviously but they also worked out that in the time the race took the Porche had depreciated $12000 in value.

@motorised1 I can't be bothered looking for the video now, MGuy did a review of it but didn't mention the depreciation. The Porche was I think 250,000 pounds or dollars new so 12000 is believable considering how poorly EVs hold there value.

The banter's incredible as always but let's not forget that petrol cars, while still being objectively better than EV's at this current state, will only last as long as fossil fuels are still around to be processed. However the argument of cost savings regarding EV's isn't specifically stuck in regards to the charging costs if whether or not your house has a solar panel installed or not (granny chargers exists), there's other variables such as vehicle maintentance and gas prices compared to owning a petrol vehicle. While yes, EV's suffer from range anxiety despite the advancements done with lithium batteries, there's still hope if Solid State Batteries would find it's way into the customer market (more energy dense and longer lasting) I don't mind alternative fuels such as Hydrogen though that would generally require an overhaul to the already existing Petrol engine, and possibly leading to a radical change in automation on a similar scale how we adopted the petrol vehicle in early 20th century. My best suggestion would be for a company to produce drop-in replacement, synthetic fuel that would mimick the ordinary petrol as a way to keep older cars alive and around. Other than that I've been digging this type of video format, looking forward to some more!

My solar panels have paid them self off in a few years, they are great for my electricity bills and would only get better if i had a battery. I dont get fuck all back from the energy i put into the grid but im still paying 1/4 of what i did 3 years ago every 3 months so im saving money. EVs are going to be the future, but not until we have better battery technology than Lithium. Lithium is dangerous, it cant be rebuilt like a motor and cost 20-40k to replace a battery in a car every 5-10 years if you lucky! If i was younger and still rode motor cross id be considering the new stark dirt bike.. When all the retired and current pro SX riders are saying they actually LOVE it, then i want one.. And at a mx/sx track you pump out 20 laps until you cant hang onto the the handle bars anymore, charge it for 40 mins while u rest and have another 20 mins full rip. If your a slower rider/weekend warrior then expect 40 laps Either way my sugarcane feed barra ute will shit on the BMWS... might burn 60litires of fuel in a few minutes but also get me from melb to Heathcote and back to melb on a single tank if i dont run it and just spectate/help mates out

On the petrol v electric debate, I get passionate when EV’s are claimed to be the magic bullet for global warming. It isn’t. Now for performance, it can become an interesting argument. A Tesla isn’t, and never will be a performance car. A heavy car, will always feel like a heavy car through the corners. Now, electric hasn’t reached its real potential down that path. Think about it, the first motor car was built in 1886, and look at what it can do today. What will EV’s do with that same period of development? A hint is the McMurty Speirling. It broke the Goodwood record in 2020.. and it’s actually LIGHT (looking at you Tesla with your electric elephants) 1000kg. That’s lighter than a MX5.
