I reviewed the subject in 1988, in the context of the International Conference on Super Deep drilling and Deep Geophysical Research at Yaroslavl. The necessity for Primary Migration, I thought, rendered the theory of the origin of petroleum in the so called source rocks, cumbersome and unacceptable. After several decades, the situation is the same. Is it not time to abandon this theory, and put our efforts elsewhere?

Why would migration obviate the need for source rocks.
