Cool hack. I was wondering how well the magnet now works to keep the flaps closed during the wind and rain? Impressed with your use of tools everyone has lying around the house. Thanks for the video & you did great if this is your 1st one!!
Thanks for the tip about using nails - it is almost impossible for one person to replace this without help - and help is not always available. Nails are always around in most home tool kits! Smart idea!
I replaced this dog flap with an authentic PetSafe replacement and my dog broke it in like 2 months! Thank you so much for a more durable and thrifty alternative :-)
Thanks for the video. Hubby made an awesome insulated house for our new outside guard dog, I will make a door flap similar to this out of the same material (if I can find some, or similar) . Thanks again.
Love having a practical solution! My pet door has an "insulation" flap, so the dog cannot see through anyway. If it'll fit, I may put this on both sides so the yellow insulation flap won't show through. Color should help with UV, too on the outside.
I have a dog door made by ideal but ran into the same problems it looks like I would have to put my bottom strip on with rivets possibly after drilling out the old ones, I found some clear runner that they had on the website at Lowe’s at two dollars and change per foot which would work for me I wouldn’t be able to bend it over double but one layer would work as a possibility? Unless it’s way too thin haven’t seen it in person yet.
Love it. I couldn't also justify the price of replacement flap in the market, so was looking for if there are cheap hacks available and I am glad I landed here. Great video & great innovative tip for affordable replacement option. Do you happen to know if the material is weather proof? As my doggie door faces the morning sun from outside. If not, I am thinking of applying the UV clear coat for protection.
Thank you. This looks affordable, fast, and easy. My dog tears through dog doors in a couple months. I appreciate this idea. If you can link or mention exactly what the stuff was... vinyl or rubber, flooring or other, on a roll... I cannot find it. Help?
Sorry, I haven't had access to my account in a few months. Hopefully you are able to find the materials, but if not, here is a link to what I used: www.lowes.com/pd/Apache-Mills-Inc-Anti-fatigue-runner-36-in-W-Cut-to-Length-Gray-Cast-Vinyl-Utility-Runner-By-the-Foot/3612682
I assume you might have looked at the clear vinyl runner they had there at Lowe’s by the foot? Maybe you decided against it? I was thinking clear so that they could see through it, but all the previous clear ones have ripped in a year or less , From ideal pet. So maybe your material would last a lot longer just hope my two dogs wouldn’t run into each other if they can’t see the other, one coming in, as one going out. LOL
I prefer the opaque so the dog goes through cautiously instead of bolting through. This lady is impressive. I'm guessing she's been a single mum for awhile. We get to learn some skillz and inovations along the way.
Add the item next time or be more descriptive as to what it is Apache Mills, Inc. 36-in W Cut-to-Length Black Extruded Vinyl Utility Runner (By-the-Foot)
