@SiHunt Cross-country skiing at elite level requires more calories than virtually any other form of excercise. Much more so than running. It's a complete workout for the whole body.
@SiHunt Bjorn Dahlie, arguably the greatest cross-country skiier ever, still has the world record for the highest VO2 max. Meaning he had the best "lungs" ever, that ought to tell you something about how tough it is. Clearly the track was not suited for roller skiing- it makes the wheels go slow. Moreover they had just ended their vacation so they were both in bad shape. Cross-country skiing involves every muscle in the whole body and burns more calories than boxing.
@TriathlonMoe This of course depends on your interpretation of ´tough´. Very good point, you can quantitate the demands of a sport. 12 rounds of boxing requires high endurance, many skiing race´s are lest time. Sport on sport comparisons are quite qualitative and the partisan fans of Petter Northug are an interesting phenomena....
@SiHunt You are free to try xc skiing any time, I am sure :) It's "tough" getting hit, no doubt, really tough actually, but the fatigue and pain suffered in xc skiing is extreme. Give it a shot, Billy Ray Bob :)
@fishskicanoe Nice comment, roller ski racing is a fun sport! I am assuming that the regulations require the surface to be tarmac, but I would love to see some off road roller ski! As well! I was wondering if anyone could find any roller ski regulations that agree that its good to do it on an athletics track? Not that regulators get it right...
@PetterNorthugVideos I´m sure you train very hard and smart too, I have the upmost respect for anyone x county skiing competitively or for leisure. X county IS very tough, like the high jump they interrupted. Yes i ski x country and see a lot.
@SiHunt Have you ever watched a 50 km cross-country skiing race? When they reach the finish line they often collapse because they have absolutely no energy left and all the muscles are exhausted. Boxing requires much less cardio and doesn't require nearly as much strength and endurance in the legs.
@SiHunt A better combination would have to had a large number of wheels with large flat contact surface´s to reduce the pressure and the resistance give by the Mondo track. 2 days training? Was not enough time for them to work out how to avoid and embarrassing over 4 min mile, that my mum could have beaten them over. I´m still left with the question is this or is this not a sport and does it have any place at a high stakes professional track and field meeting?
Han är den bästa åkaren uppför Alpe Cermis och kan göra riktigt bra fristilslopp. I ett lopp där det är svagt uppför en lång sträcka, som mellan Cortina och Toblach, är han suverän. Men Northug är bättre totalt sett. Inget snack om det.
@SiHunt Interesting that you can say that. Have you seen much X country skiing? I'm an young athlete, train averagly 1 hour and 30 minutes each day. Every contest you have to push the limit. Why is Heavy Weight Boxing a sport rather than X country skiing?
@dilmao I was not writing about cross country skiing I was writing about the joke race at the Bislett games. NOT A SPORT... on that surface. it is simply not cross country skiing. How did you know my brain was ´sub-standard´?

I think they should add snow, a couple hills, and you have Nordic Track! Perfect for the current obsession with 2km races, mass start tactical douchebaggery, and multiple passes through the stadium to appease TV ratings. Then cross country can do what cross country running does: peel off and return to its roots as real, narrow trail, less-than-pefectly groomed cross country skiing: imagine a race course being just one loop. Start to finish. Hmmm... Interval starts. No TV, sounds worth watching and doing. And leave Nordic Track to the drugs-and-muscles crowd.
Tror på Hellner också. Men till skillnad från dig håller jag mig till fakta. Tidigare säsonger har Northug varit klart bättre i de flesta distanserna. Jag hoppas att Hellner lyckas också. Jag försöker inte nedvärdera andra om det går dåligt för Hellner, eller trycka ned dem när Hellner vinner något.
@fishskicanoe The 2 polyurethane wheels on a roller ski are of a relatively hard compound, and rounded. This allows greater efficiency and higher speeds on hard surfaces due to the lack of friction and contact area. This ironically is the totally wrong combination for the Mondo surface of a running track due. The wheel sinks into the track as the pressure increases to about 20kg per square cm for an 80 kg athlete causing massive drag, making it a slow and tedious race hence the joke music..
boxing does not require any endurance what-so-ever. all that they do is throw fake punches and have the cameras edit it. In Cross Country Skiing you are constantly using every muscle in your body and pushing it to the limits for a long as possible.
15 km fritt, dubbeljakten 30 km, möjligen lagsprint om det vill sig väl om han åker med Teodor Peterson eller Emil Jönsson. Sverige lär hamna på pallen i stafetten, men jag tror Norge med Northug i spetsen är lite för bra på den sista rundan. Men på 5-milen har Hellner inte en suck, inte på de klassiska loppen överhuvudtaget heller.
@jonnybravo8 Hvorfor hadde han ingenting der å gjøre, var vel ikke slikt at det gikk utover de andre utøverne? Ser ikke grunn til å irritere seg over det, selv om man kanskje ikke syntes det er spesielt gøy. Og de pengepremiene er jo opp itl arrangøren å dele ut uansett
@SiHunt Cross country skiing is one of, if not the single the toughest sport in the world, but I wouldn't expect you to know that :) It takes incredible stamina, strength, speed, balance, agility and not least world class skiing technique, while writing that comment of yours only requires a sub-standard excuse of a brain. So please, a little respect :)
Odd that the non-skiers are so parochial. Roller ski races are usually run under the auspices and rules of their respective countries xc skiing organizations. Roller skiing races are not uncommon in many parts of the world. As to speed my guess is that the somewhat soft track inhibited the amount of glide from the skis. Roller skiers and xcskiers commonly exceed running speeds for the same length of course by 25%.

Att Northug skulle vinna var inte direkt någon högoddsare. Hellner har aldrig varit en spurtkomet, även om han trots allt slagit Northug i sprint på Holmenkollen:)

@SiHunt Im a 16 year old boy. Train an average of 1 hour per day! I train boxing and skiing just like shown here. Boxing is one of the hardest workouts u will ever experience. You need stamina, strenght, speed, balance and agility. But let me tell you somthing. You need all of the same stuff when you do cross like here... It`s just as hard, if not a little bit harder! Please think before u open your mouth! You don`t have a clue to what ur talking about

@Mixalisvolos100 Rollerblading around an athletics track IS NOT a sport people. I know you like these athletes but open your eyes! Can anyone show me the rules and regulations regarding rollerblading around a track? Seriously don´t come with any ´inline aggressive skating´ because that is not a sport either! This took place as a joke by Stinar Hoen with joke music and they were very slow, very slow. My mum could have run faster than them!
@LimesNorrlandicus @dilmao @Mixalisvolos100 This joke race obstructed US$30,000 high jump competition & the Olympic camp jumping. 8 slow slow laps was an insult to the quality of the athletes there that should have been running instead, not to mention the million of track fans from around the world. Simply embarrassing Oslo!!
