I applied fairing to my haul, directions said to sand fairing with 220 grit sandpaper. Petit protect epoxy primer directions say to sand with 80 grit paper. My question is can I apply petit protect epoxy primer after sanding with 220 grit paper or do I need to resend with 80 grit paper ? Thanks Terry O'Hara
Hi I did 3 coats of rustlok on a extensively prepared steel floor of a truck only to find it not even lasting a winter. Is 3 coats really enough ? Would have 4 coats made a difference or do you need a specific top coat to finish the job?
Hello, it depends on the depth of the grinding. 3 coats may not have been enough if the product filled in the valleys but didn't get enough coverage on the peaks. Did you grind or sand? If sanded, what grit?
I just finished painting 4 coats of Pettit Protect onto my hull. I was told that VC17 is compatible - is that true? I know it's a competitor but it's an anti-fouling that I'm familiar with. If not compatible, what Pettit Anti Foul should I use?
Todd, if you are looking for a high performance coating, Pettit Black Widow is our suggestion. Dual biocide great on both hard and soft fouling and can be burnished to a mirror like finish.
we applied 2 coats pettit protect per instructions to a gelcoat canoe, using to low nap roller method, we are disappointed with the high texture results. we want to sand it smooth prior to applying the ex poxy paint, do we need to reapply pettit protect again to have the tack, or will the ex poxy paint bond to a sanded dry surface? we are aiming for a glass smooth finish.
Hello Jodie, Pettit Protect is a high solids 2 part epoxy typically used for bottom paint, it will be rough if not thinned out. EZ Prime is used for topside painting. You can sand the Pettit Protect smooth, solvent wipe and apply EZ Poxy
Hello, extra care must be taken when putting the lid back on. All Rustlok material must be removed from the trough of the can. If all the Rustlok isn't removed, it will cause the lid to be very difficult to remove. It almost welds the lid to the can.
