Me too!! I recently went to see the home I grew up in. It's up for sale and in ruins. It has me going down memory lane to the music I loved in that house.
THANK You Alan for you absolutely spot on comment about the AWESOME Petula Clark. The Superstar of the Sixties and Seventies and the Greatest Female Vocalist/Entertainer of all time.
The 60s had a massive explosion of talent. From UK was Petula Clark dusty Springfield, Sandy Shaw, Cilla Black and Lulu. In the US the list is endless, all the girl bands - Ronettes, Supremes, Martha and the Vandellas etc etc etc. Rockers like Janis Joplin, black singers such as Aretha, her sister, Dionne Warwick. A wonderful time for great music. I had forgotten though how good Petula Clark was, I am old enough to remember her and the other British singers. Even the French produced some greats too, I adored Mireille Mathieu at the time.
@@wrongwaypete You're right. The songwriters and arrangers never get the credit they deserve. Just like the Funk Brothers whose music turned so many of those Motown singers into superstars
Darren Plumpton - I agree 💯 I was so in love with her as a lad!!! I always thought it was cool because when they would show things like this on TV, the music is piped-in but her voice is not! If you watch all of her TV videos very closely you can tell that it's not the record when she sings. I had all of her albums, so I noticed right off. Plus she's hip and would throw in a "yeah" or "a-ha" ...
@@johnsallee7824 THANK YOU VERY MUCH INDEED JOHN for your wonderful reply. I appreciate it,it is brilliant. So GREAT to meet another "Clarkie" like me who TOTALLY LOVES Petula Clark. I have heard all the other female vocalist/artists and of course most are very good indeed and there's no doubting that what so ever. However no one for me ,and in my opinion, comes anywhere close to Petula. Petula has soooooo much talent she is absolutely incredible. Mega-Star Pop Star, Amazing Movie Actress and Phenomenal Musical Theatre Performer and Songwriter as well as recording in French, Italian, Spanish and German. Having a EIGHTY year career span Petula Clark is Unmatchable Unsurpassable and Unique. THERE WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER PETULA CLARK. I am just incredibly thankful that I lived in the same era as Petula Clark CBE. And I always will be.❤❤❤
She rates in my top 4 favorites: 1. Judith Durham of the Seekers. 2. Karen Carpenter. 3. Petula Clark. 4. Leslie, it's my party and I'll cry if I want to, Gore.
Every time I watch this I want to be the guy in the burgundy coat. He is lost in the pure joy of dancing and does it so well! Well enough that Patula even joins him for a bit. Always makes me smile.
I never saw her in person but I loved seeing her on TV, she had a great fashion sense and I loved the way she danced. Look at that smile. Today singers don't smile. I miss that.
I finally got to see her live on stage last year when she played the bird lady in Mary Poppins in the West End. She was nearly 90 years old and clearly having the time of her life. The voice and presence were still there good and strong. OK it wasn’t the way I’d imagined seeing her perform live but I can still tick it off the bucket list and watch these great videos people have posted. I went off her for a while in the mid 80s after she made some political statements about the Falklands and the miners strike from the stage while performing at the Albert Hall before flying back to her home in Switzerland but I only have to listen to that great voice and these great songs and can’t help but forgive her.
ABSOLUTELY LOVE THAT PETULA TURNED AND STARTED DANCING WITH THE GUY THAT WAS GETTING INTO DANCING TO THIS SONG AND AS PETULA TURNED TO DANCE WITH HIM HIS GIRLFRIEND BACKED AWAY FOR A NEW SECONDS AND THEN CAME BACK TOGETHER WHEN PETULA STARTED SINGING AGAIN. THUS IS A GREAT VIDEO. WAS THIS ON A TV SHOW AND WHERE THESE PEOPLE ACTUALLY DANCERS?
Song after song of perfect instrumentation and vocalization! I was born in 53. We moved to El Paso in August of 62 and left in August of 67. Most of her great songs covered that time period. You only had to hear her newest song once before you were riveted to it upon second listen.
I rediscovered this song while sitting in the mezzanine lounge of the JFK Airport TWA Hotel. I was immediately transported back to when I took my first airplane trip out of that very same building when it was an airline terminal in 1968.
My uncle's family came up to Maine and all of us were thrilled to see them. All of us had dinner at home r then went skating at the Portland Roller Drome. The Roller Drome had an oldies night and it was INCREDIBLE!!!!! My aunt Peggy and my uncle maybe had too much cheer but they were loving what was going on. My aunt, uncle, and my cousins skated to a great oldies song and were very good!!! My mother, my sisters Eva, Nancy and Caroline were standing next to my mother and me and my girlfriend Debbie were behind them. My uncle started to tease my mother and then my mother told my uncle's family, " Sit Down classis now in SESSION"!!! My mother turned to me and said, " C'mon Allie"!! Time to show these people who we ARE"!! All everyone saw was an INFERNO in my eyes and my energy level go NUCLEAR"!!!!! My mother and I went out on the skate floor and put on a skate clinic!!! Debbie SCREAMED in delight and joined me then we uncorked dance moves we created for this song. My sister Eva screamed "HOLY SHIT" and got in the groove with us. Then Nancy and Caroline came out and picked up the groove we were in!!!! We got done and the Roller Drome ROCKED from the cheering and screaming we received!!!! My uncle, aunt, and cousins were in SHOCK!!! over the skate lesson we gave them!!! My sister Eva looked at me and Debbie and said, " I don't know where you got that routine but you ARE going to teach me"!!!! The Owner of the Roller Drome then came out and Kissed my mother and all of us kids!!!!! My mother said to my uncle, " How did you like the way my kids skate"""!!!!! The Roller Drome erupted in deafening cheering and screaming!!!!🥰🥰❤❤💋💋✌✌⚡⚡⚡🌀🌀🌀🔥🔥 NUCLEAR!!!!! ME!!!!!!
Petula Clark is the greatest female pop artist of all time.Beginning with her smash hit in 1964 of ‘DOWNTOWN” followed by great songs of “Sign of the Times”;””Colour your World””This is my Song” and all other classic smash hits particularly during the golden years and golden era of the swinging sixties. With much love N .Lucas Melbourne:Australia
100 💯 PER CENT TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU @lucassneofitos5789👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼. PETULA CLARK is UNMATCHABLE, UNSURPASSABLE and UNIQUE. Petula Clark THE VERY BEST of the best.
Dude in the red jacket is really getting into it. I would assume that the dancers were dancing in an exaggerated way for the camera. Dancing was more like the way Petula Clark danced, slightly swinging her hips and arms. That was more normal. Lol.
Went dancing last weekend, live band, so much fun! kids from the 80s and 90s belting out MoTown and mo' from the 60s and 70s (my era) with their horns and drums and all. And i see myself in this video - that guy and i have all the same moves!
How could you not fall in love with her? A powerful voice yet so sexy in her own way. I believe she really enjoyed performing her songs. So genuine..... Priceless
I was 5 years old when this song came out and have vivid memories of my parents listening to it on our Zenith console color TV/Stereo in our North Hollywood, CA home. I had just got my first snare drum and cymbal and played along to this song and 58 years later I am still a drummer and still love this song~!
I saw her a couple of years ago she was almost ninety and her voice was still powerful and I felt so privileged to be there. In the regional town where I live
when I hear this timeless petula Clark song it brings back memories of time i was privileged to spend with my lovely mum old double decker buses going up the Hunter Street mall ⚘⚘⚘⚘⚘💝💖👩👧👦🐝🦋🌞🌈🦄☯️🙏
Brilliant song and singer down town is my favourite reminds me of the 60s me and my mates would go down to the Bristol city centre there were neon lights everywhere sadley the lights are all gone great time
Petula Clark mesmerized me as a little kid in the 60’s whenever she was on tv….and 60 years later, nothing’s changed, she’s still one of a kind. (That being the case, the director should’ve moved Burgundy Jacket guy over to the side a little; he’s a distraction from the real talent here.) Love ya, Pet ❤
One of Ms. Clark's finest recordings. Petula turns in a spirited lead vocal, and she and the backup dancers are conservatively attired in suits, ties and dresses!
