I've been growing supertunias in large containers for 3 years and I've never had them self-clean. If I don't go out and pick the wilted or dried blooms off the plants, in one week the entire plant will be covered with the small, brown, dried blooms.

Oh wow sorry to hear that. I've never grow regular supertunias. Since 2019...I've only ever grown Supertunia vistas: bubblegum, fuchsia, snow drift, silverberry. I have never had any problems Inground or containers. Well a little bit with the budworms but that's about it.

Petunias originally were collected from northern Argentina, Uruguay and southern Brazil which have a subtropical climate with mild winters much like Florida or the Gulf Coast. They are mostly a winter flower over there. 10:37

I live in a tropical climate and petunias as well as other annuals whether “cool” or “warm” growing thrive better during our late fall, “winter” and spring season which lasts from November to April. Temperatures during that period usually hover between 82-86° during the day and 62-65° at night and are fairly constant. It is the dry season. They can take full sun during the period from November through March, the rest of the time it’s better to give them some shade. Petunias thrive rather poorly during the height of the summer (June, July, August, September) because of the constant high temperatures (90-92°) and very warm nights (73-75°). They appreciate shade during this period and protection from the frequent rainfall. Petunias like warm (80-86°) days and cool (65°) nights, excessive heat stresses them. Most late spring and summer annuals prefer that range too. Contrary to the general belief in the US, the great majority of annuals whether “cool” or “warm” come from either Mediterranean or subtropical climates or tropical highlands such as central Mexico where the climate is mild to cool depending upon the elevation. Very few come from the lowland tropics where the climate is constantly hot and humid.

Hi Caitlin, I just found your channel. I love your enthusiasm and manner!! I just purchased 16 Bubblegums (can’t find them in stores only online) and 6 Bordeaux, then about 26 other nonamed petunias. Theses are for our formal garden in North Carolina. I don’t know how to send you a before and after photo, but I would if I could. I look forward to following you on RU-vid!

Hi Caitlin, I'm in Northern California Zone 10a. This video very informative - I was wondering of the petunias that you mention can you tell me which ones bloom most of year. Also, it doesn't sound like that Petunias are drought tolerant, because they need lots of regular water, is that correct?
@MillerFlowersGreenville
@MillerFlowersGreenville Год назад
Hello! They all do about the same as in the most bloom. Supertunias are more aggressive with a tighter habit. We love the supertunias! Petunias need watered every other or once a day especially in hot climates. They are not particularly drought tolerant but do take the heat well.

Hey, why do you use Jacks Bloom Booster and not their Petunia Feed?
@MillerFlowersGreenville
@MillerFlowersGreenville Год назад
We use both. They are pretty similar in many ways. Since we were running Jacks Bb already for the rest of our flowers, we used it on the petunias as well.

@@MillerFlowersGreenville I gotcha, thanks for the clarification! I just started growing petunias myself, it's got so many blooms on it already. I am amazed at how prolific it is.

So do I need to deadhead pertunia hybrida?
@MillerFlowersGreenville
@MillerFlowersGreenville Год назад
We recommend trimming periodically throughout the summer and fertilizing every 7-14 days. This will encourage your plants to continue fill out and get full. Deadheading is not necessary for the supertunias, although some people do.
