I apologize the video is so choppy, it was unscripted and done on the fly. There are lots of similar videos and info out there about what you should carry in your PFD... so here's mine, I unashamedly think its the best setup. There are only a couple things I wish I could carry but add bulk I'm not willing to have... I still need to float!
As I say in the opening comments, the most important thing is that whatever you need for your survival is on the PFD. And I forget to mention I carry a nose clamp on a cord so I can put it on while rolling and I have an aluminum carabiner on one side to hold up my spray skirt, attached impromptu dummy cords to, or use as a fastening point to hook myself onto my kayak. I also sometimes carry a camera, but have destroyed the last two.

My Handi Squirrel saved my life. Truly essential gear. Don't leave home without it.

This is a great video! I definitely need to up my game now that I am in the ocean all the time. I hadn't seen that strobe before, I have had so many C-Strobes die on me. Thanks for posting this.

5:34 EPIRB is registered to a boat PLB is designed to be used by individuals He is using PLB - personal locator beacon I say this so people would not get confused because he mentioned both names, if you buy that device you have to buy PLB not EPIRB

Great info! Well done. I’m digging your PFD. Can I ask you why this vest, PFD, plus what size is it and what is your size; height, weight, chest size? I’m 5’10” 150 pounds, male, with a 42 inch chest. Kokatat says Medium which I think is your size here. Do you take into account extra clothing when buying these? I was the large too big for you? I bought this strobe! It’s kickass!

Glad you liked the video and bought the strobe. I still haven’t found a better one, and it’s still on my vest 100’s of trips and exposures to salt water later. I’m 5’9”, about 175lbs, 44” chest. The vest is a Kokatat Outfit, size large. Not buying advice, but I tend to err on the side of larger pfd’s, that way i can fit a drysuit under it.

I have the HX210 radio, I assume it should fit just fine?

Yeah you should have no issues in a standard PFD pocket.

I got them long ago at West Marine. They are very similar to these, plus these are cheaper I’m sure: www.amazon.com/Awpeye-Fishing-Retractable-Finishing-Stainless/dp/B07DN583DY/ref=mp_s_a_1_10?crid=32RS3VF83NT3Q&keywords=bungee+coil+leash+for+kayaking&qid=1649802796&sprefix=bungee+coul+leash+for+kayak%2Caps%2C263&sr=8-10

The Seattle Sports Dry Doc Tethers are all-plastic, glow-in-the-dark and work well. Four for $9 at REI.

skills and JUDGMENT rule over kit any day.

I find comments like this to be insufferable. Use judgement and skills - got it. Everyone who is remotely serious about kayaking gets it. We don’t need to keep saying it over and over to each other. Moreover, skills or judegement might keep you out of bad situations, or off the water completely, but unfortunately gear is what it takes to get you out of situations or enable you to enjoy others. For example, your skills and judgement won’t make you warm in cold water. A drysuit will. So if you don’t have one your judgement will say “I can’t go kayaking in cold water”. Whereas if you have a drysuit you get to have a nice day kayaking. Don’t forget to like and subscribe byeeeee!

Based on this ridiculous and disrespectful comment, I question your skills and judgment.
