Welcome to episode 102 of the Commander's Guild: "Highway to the Danger Zone" Every week I go to scryfall.com and randomly select a card, making a budget (under $100) commander deck around it and showcasing a gameplay video of the deck. This week I'm joined by Bilal, Shawn, and Jason.
This week's random card is Phage the Untouchable (suggested by Shawn) and she's also the commander. The main trick to this deck is making sure we don't die just from casting our commander and then also trying to find ways to sneak damage through. That's why we're also running a reanimation package to ensure that Phage is by no means the only threat on the board.

A small quibble about the gameplay. When you cast Incarnation Technique, your spell goes on the stack. Then you copy it, putting that on the stack. Copying it lets an opponent copy it, so the opponent's copy goes on the stack last. You resolved your copies first and last in the video, but you should have been second and last.

Thanks for letting me know! We were thinking they resolved like that because of the copy but it makes sense that the opponent gets theirs first. I’ll make sure to fix that for any future casts.

8:28 VALIDATION AT LAST I will defend and hype up Incarnation Technique until my last breath the card is insane. I play it in Muldrotha and it's an ALL-STAR for the non-permanent package

It’s such a good card! I’ve never seen it played and not have a huge impact on the game.

Great vid im trying to build phage but shes very tricky to have a full deck of synergy with no "good stuff" involved

Phage is definitely tough to build. Voltron is a strategy that works pretty well with her though.

It's been a year and no one answered you! So here you go: You're correct on an opponent controlling Phage dying and exiling Phage. It's covered in rule 800.4c: "800.4c If an effect that gives a player still in the game control of an object ends, there is no other effect giving control of that object to another player in the game, and the object entered the battlefield under the control of a player who has left the game, the object is exiled. This is not a state-based action. It happens as soon as the control-changing effect ends." So, since Phage ETB under the control of the opponent, and no other player has an effect that would give them control of Phage, it is exiled immediatly when the opponent loses the game, and you may put it back into your command zone as per 903.9.
