Phan Rang 1968 

I was at Phan Rang in 1968 durning Tet and worked on the B57 as jet eng mechanic . I was the guy that did most of the trim pad work at the far end of the runway and I remember watching the Pedro crews working right close to the trim pad. And now I look back and ask myself why I never asked to go up for a ride in that amazing bird. AWESOME film, thanks for posting it.

I served at Phan Rang ...1970-1971... Civil Engineers.... Electrical Power Production....call sign...Cobra Nine... Came home with one hell of a suntan....

My Dad was stationed at Phan Rang Air Force Base in the late 60's and early 70's. He was an MP, I remember a lot of stories about the NVA mortar attacks with tubes made of bamboo wrapped in wire, and the way they would disappear into that mountain before our guys could hit back. I was a AC47 gunner at Phan Rang and one week after a crew party for Spooky 62 where the Pedro crew was included,Pedro blew up 400ft in the air just after take off. All crew members were lost. My father, retired USAF Lt Colonel Don G. Harris was a B-57B "Yellowbird" pilot from July 1968 to June 1969 at Phan Rang. On January of 1969, his back-seater from just 4 nights before, Captain Paul Getchell was shot down on a mission over the Ho Chi Minh Tail with Colonel Dale Eaton were shot down. Ironically, the next year, 1970 Dad was the head of the ROTC at Colby College, in Waterville, Maine. The state where Paul Getchell was from; Portland, Maine.

My dad was a flight engineer on an ac-47 there.
