Phantasm is an example of how editing make or break a film, where less is more.

I love Phatasm so much, one of my favourite films of all time. Don said that either the Tall man or Lady in Lavender can exist at one time. They are two different beings in one body.

The thing that makes this series great is the mystery and pacing

It's set in the Midwest, but Phantasm was filmed in and around Oakland and Los Angeles. The gorgeous white mansion is Dunsmuir House in Oakland.

27:00 I shall explain it. The Tallman doesn't turn himself into women, he can at any moment replace or swap into people that are under his control, like the Lady in Lavender or Alchemy from Phantasm 2. It's like shape shifting but not exactly, think Agent Smith from The Matrix.

Wow, boobs on RU-vid. Best to enjoy it before someone gets offended and starts flagging that it be censored.

Bet that was a relief after sitting through the latter half of the Hellraiser series ;)

after hearing the praise for this film for the longest time I decided to finally check it out a couple months back and bought the Remastered Blu-Ray. I enjoyed it quite a bit. creepy and dreamlike atmosphere, the memorable and likeable characters, an awesome villain in The Tall Man, the Sentinel Spheres, the amazing music, etc... I'm glad I finally gave this one a watch. now to try and check out the rest of the series at some point

It's not just the ending of it being a dream, it's the fact in real life, loss of loved family and friends is much more horrifying than movie monsters. But Mike is lucky to have Reggie there to support him... and then, BOOOOYYYYYYYYY, thr Tall Man is real and lives.

I would LOVE to see the three hour Phantasm cut. Phantasm 1 ans 2 are probably jn my top 25 films and top ten horror films.

It's great that the Phantasm gang loaned their muscle car to Pattinson's Batman.

Angus Scrimm was 6'4" which is tall, i think everyone is getting confused with rumors about his false height, like people who claim Arnold Schwarzenegger is short, even though he really isn't.

3 is my fav. Psychic lady is in 4 giggling still. The most memorable scenes are the ball (drone) hitting the guy in the head and The tall man standing over Mike's bed. The Ending is great too boooooooy!

Lads, enjoyed the episode a lot, but the part when the tall man stops by Reggie's ice cream truck I feel you misread. It seems evident that the tall man was just rolling down the street and became aware of Mike watching him. He then stops, turns menacingly, and looks directly at Mike. He then sniffs the air as if he is trying to catch and savor the scent of the foolish boy who dares to observe him. In a later sequel, this moment is kind of retconned to give the impression of a weakness to cold. I think him stopping by the truck and Reggie was done for stylistic reasons, and perhaps to connect Reggie, whom I don't think was aware of Mike's fears at the time.

The fortune teller does appear in the fourth film, played by a different actress though.

Great movie. It really plays like a nightmare in the waking day. The way the characters react and how they deal with the surreal incidences seemed believable. Even though so many of the strange incidences increase, it doesn't insult ones intelligence. The kid, Mike is a believable teenager but isn't an idiot, he's very resourceful. A little fun fact, it's the same house featured in the horror movie "Burnt Offerings" with Oliver Reed.

it's a crying shame Ravager 5 wasn't really a proper entry. I felt bad for getting excited to finally find out what happened after the ending of 4.

This is hands down the best Horror film soundtrack not done by John Carpenter & Alan Howarath. John Carpenter's Prince Of Darkness in particular is damn good film music. Phantasm theme is great, but the instruments of Phantasm 1 though dated, it's a work of art. It jams, it slaps especially the Mineshaft Chase theme.

Angus scared me more than any other character in horror. I'm still scared of him. That old photograph when he turns and stares right through your soul? #scarredforlife

one of my favourite horror flicks i recomend the films Driller Killer" and basket case both from this era of horror madness

Oh man, I'd LOVE to see that 3hr cut!!! Never saw parts 3 & 4.... Good to hear they add value..... Will track them down.

The movie was pretty scary and novel for its time. It would have been better with a bigger budget.

Despite its a 1971 Plymouth 340 Barracuda disguised as a Plymouth 440 S Hemi 'Cuda, it gets like 3 miles a gallon tops. Burn me at the stake, a 1970, 1971 440 S Hemi 'Cuda, the finest muscle car ever made. Dodge made a limited edition in 2010 with a Challenger body, a Hemi 'Cuda, it's worth the consequences of climate change, everybody who will bark at that statement can go to red planet and buzz right off. That car is a gorgeous monster, a 1970 Hemi 'Cuda easily costs over $1M, gets awful gas mileage but can accelerate 0-60mph in 4.4 seconds and yes it's simply a beautiful work of art kind of like how a 1911 .45 ACP pistol is a work of art, which is the pistol in this film. IF one had this car, I seriously doubt any insurance company would cover it and if they did oh my God would it break a rich man's bank + gasoline costs. Can't deny it though, it's an awesome and beautiful piece of engineering. They do not make them like they use to. However I agree with Joe Bob, Don Coscarelli should be tried for treason, murder, every felony you can think of because he blew up a Hemi 'Cuda, a true one in Phantasm 2. The Church should burn him to the stake for this horrible crime against humanity.

I saw all of them they were the best I’m glad I grew up during the 80’s I was 10 yrs old when I saw the 2nd one when I started to get older couldn’t wait for of the Phantasms to come out to theaters or videos. The Phantasms movies are the best, let alone some zombies movies too.

This film has tons of nostalgia and brings that love of film making that you see in Carpenter's movies as well. Late 70s and the 80s were full of that film making zeal and even childish innocence. Lots of creativity and pure playfulness. It's all gone now. However, this nostalgia aside, I have to say I re-watched the movie recently and I was very disappointed. The film barely has any plot at all. It is extremely repetitive and comes across as a stitched together series of encounters with midgets and the Tall Man. The script is very weak and it doesn't really seem to go anywhere. Things happen because the director thinks it's fun. But you need more than that in order to have an immersive story. A lot of stuff in the film is also plain illogical and just bizarre. It put me off a bit. On top of that, the supernatural stuff was random, and remained random throughout this franchise. There is no real logic to what goes on. Any character at any point can turn into any kind of monster. Any monster can be killed or brought back to life if the script needs it to. Antagonists will die or be indestructible depending on how the director feels at the moment. Weird episodes will turn out to be dream sequences. And all the while the motivations of the characters remain kind of obscure. Especially when it comes to the bad guys. They are there simply to be an excuse to have weird and scary scenes. Again, that's all the director cares about, and the plot never mattered. Not here, and not in any of the sequels. I can't say I love this film. I love much about it, as I explained, but I don't think it worked out well in the end.

the sky in the other place is red, but when the kid is pulled back "smoke" comes off his clothes in a similar way to ice cream on a hot day. it'd make a lot more sense for the tall man to stop seem to take a deep inhale and reach out to the cold in that case

I remember seeing this film as a youngster in the cinema and was lost the entire film. I kept this to myself because some people really raved about the film and I felt thick in not getting it . I haven't seen the film since . Its relieving to hear that it was indeed a bit of a flustercuck .

I hadn't rewatched The Phantasm series in well over a decade and after rewatching the films my opinion is Phantasm 1 is an absolute terrible film that doesn't hold it's own without the sequels to back it up. The film was genuinely infuriating to watch as the pacing is all over the place and Jodies death literally comes out of nowhere and the whole "It was all a dream" is so hackneyed and without the sequels it's just bad storytelling. I was surprised by how much I hated Phantasm 1 as I remembered loving it, but that's only with the knowledge of the sequels as without those other parts of the story, it's just plain dumb.

This was the video that got me started with you guys four years ago. Happy to rewatch it.
