This trailer is SO 90s. *sniffs* I miss the 90s. Wish I could go back and experience it as an adult instead of a kid who felt the 90s would last forever.
@@hazel2409 tbh sega was right about this game lasting a long time: even though sega couldnt support it,dedicated fans instantly made servers as soon as the official ones shut down, servers like sylverant with decent playerbases.
This game was freakin amazing. Sega was so ahead of it's time. Everything about PSO was great. Though gameplay may have seemed a bit dull but still incredibly great for it's time and it being an online game, first online console game. What kept me hooked on this game was the amazing music and just the style and theme of it. The way people dressed and how this giant ship housed an entire civilization. This fantasy/futuristic world just seemed so intriguing. I 1st played it on GC & i was only 9 to
I remember watching this trailer dozens of times in a row when I was in middle school. It was practically romantic, haha. I still play PSO to this day, although thru Schthack.
They need to do a promo like this for the next PSO game they come out with. I remember seeing this promo 8 years ago, and it made me want to play this game more than any other game at that time.
Yup, I did and it was an experience like no other. Everyone including gaming companies made the year 2000 seem like the most amazing thing ever and I was so pumped for that year to come haha. This trailer blew me away at the time, I racked up some horrendous phone bills playing this. One day my dad came back early from work and he saw the modem lead going down the stairs into the port of the phone. That month the phone bill came in and I owed him over 400 pounds for a couple of weeks gaming on the Dreamcast 🤣
Holy shit this is an intense trailer. If i would have seen this back in the day I would have been begging my mom and dad to get me a Dreamcast... and internet..

i cannot tell you how many days i was late to work, and early to go home because of this game. so many memories...i used to be glued to the couch when i got this game...i think i got up to pee once.....
I did not even saw this advert back then and I've been playing the PSO games since day one. My hype would have been even bigger with this advert haha now playing Phantasy Star Zero jeje the legacy of phantasy star games continues
when i first saw this trailer back in 2000 i cried. and just now i'm crying again. i want my DC back and my old PSO buddies T.T this game was way too awesome for this time, just like the whole DC and it's concept. today people laugh about PSO and DC, but why? online gaming with a CONSOLE. sure it's usual for today but in 2000 it was the freakin future. miss my DC :(
i really do miss playing PSO as well. it was like nothing i had ever seen, a community of gamers. and yet its only recently the rest of the console world adopted integral online play. i remember running up a very large phone bill though, lol. i had that video on disc, free with dreamcast magazine :) i miss those times
PSO FOREVER! Most memorable game of all time, hands down, nothing can touch the story, the end, or the soundtrack, OR the ammount of items for its time, or the symbol chat or, or that it was on a console! Beat that@@!!!1
Man, back in those days, I wasn't entirely sure what the fuck it was; all I did know was that the TV and radio stations wouldn't shut up about it. I kinda miss those days....
I remember this trailer being shipped with the demo disk on Official UK DC Mag and legitimately watching the absolute shit out of it for days on a loop. I never did end up getting PSO for DC as the console was pulled in 2001 along with the online servers.
yea, i agree, internet gaming didn't really kick off till just recently so i guess that makes sense, but i suppose thats where Phantasy Star Universe comes in.
Oh man I had such high hopes for this game. For the first couple of months it did live up to them. I miss it so. :( Dreamcast was the best console I have ever owned.
Sonic Teams made a big deal about that back then. It was there custom-built Internet Time system they developed specially for PSO to get around time-zones. Basically SEGA's own "Stardate".
@@mlc4495 Almost. It was developed by the Swiss company Swatch in 1998. Sega just used it as a trendy internet time standard. If I had to guess, the reason it failed might have been the fact that it doesn't handle dates well. Like, it's 900 beats in New York and everywhere else in the world. But wait, what day is it right now in India? What does 900 beats MEAN there? Is it day or night? Are they on November 1st or still on October 31st? The beat system doesn't address the passage of days per region at all, so it still remains confusing as to, you know, when someone needs to go to bed or whatever. Anyway, that's my guess.
I've played the dreamcast PSO's, gamecube PSO and blue burst, yet this trailer still entices me to play! haha SIDENOTE: I think that's the most enthusiastic narrator I've ever heard. "You can even build a common front with players on the other side of the earth 20 THOUSAND KILOMETERS AWAY!"
One thing this game had that most modern mmos STILL dont have (except FFXI) is the whole "language barriers broken down" part of this trailer. Most MMOS still dont have a translate thingy (or even let u play in the same servers) other than FFXI.
So true, still is in fact. Although I didn't know that Grass Assasion was meant to be in the FOREST AREA, thinking about it makes sense though. "GRASS" Assasion. Anywho it's cool to see new areas that weren't in the final releases, like that city the people were in around 1:34. Luckily if your like me, and have PSO PC you can log on to the private server schthack.
Oh man, that made me hard. I have much love for this game. It delivered on EVERYTHING it promised AND MORE. I still play this on my computer and it is a SEAMLESS experience. All the MMO players today that never played this game lost out big time. The sequel, Blue Burst, only improved on the original with four gorgeous new worlds. Its a shame you can only play this on private servers now. Its just as much fun today as it was the first day. No nostalgia needed.
The most intricate puzzle in that game involved stepping on a few switches. Nevertheless. one of my all time favorite games. UO was out before it though. ha.
Hehe! I was the really one of the first Beta-testers on web with the French SEGA Team of PSO. I worked 6 hours a day with this game during 2 months to fix the bugs and paid for that!! We were only 15 world dudes on it in the beginning. Believe me it was a great time! I stopped at level 65 only and continued my job with QUAKE III.
@halfmanhalfman They haven't announced yet, just a teaser so far. But 2011 is the 10 year anniversary of PSO, so I'm sure Sega will have some good stuff in store for us :)
