That's so disrespectful, that the people don't stay in their seats till the end and enjoy the last drops of the music. I have never seen such behaviour in Europe. Please respect not just the singers, but also the orchestra. They are also important and deserve to be listened to until the end.
This is the exit music, fgs. People want to go home after the final company bow, and have families to return to in some cases. The purpose of 'exit music' is to definitely bookend the magic of the performance, but to also ensure a speedy clear-out of the audience. I'll also have you know that people leaving and not gathering around the pit isn't disrespectful, because the orchestra gets a spirited round of applause after from those who do gather around!
